Sedum middendorffianum and Sedum latiovalifolium cutting were treated with uniconazole at 0.5, 1, 5, 10 mg/L and then 8 weeks after treatment placed under 60,000-65,000Lux, 30,000-35,000 Lux, and 10,000-15,000 Lux. Leaf length, width, and plant height were decreased with uniconazole concentration and 5 mg/L was the most effective in growth control. 50% shading increased plant growth, whereas 75% shading decreased. Total chlorophyll contents were significantly increased with over 5mg/L uniconazole treatment in both sedum species. The contents were increased with shading. In a study of antioxidant enzymes, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) were most increased with 5mg/L uniconazole and 50% shading. The results indicate that chilling and shading resistance of sedum were induced by growth regulator and shade acclimation and that it is possible for ground cover plant.

In order to attain the hybridization between a Cymbidium species and the others, 10 different Varieties including Cymbidium(Cym.) goeringii, cym. ensifolium, cym. kanran, cym. faberi, other mutant species as Cym. hosay var. hakuran, cym. sinense f. albo-jucundisimum, cym. sinense 'Sanchonbose', and Western hybrids such as Cym. 'Anmitsu Hime' and Cym. 'Crystal Cherry Angel', were subjected to pollinate. The seeds were obtained and germinated to assess days required for germination, germination speed and other germination features for their growth to compare a species to the corresponding hybrid variety. The seed germination of interspecific hybrids took less days than their respective species. This characteristic nature of hybrid vigor was also noted in the seed germination rate and speed, as well as the young leaf growth. Western orchids, which are already hybrids as Cym. 'Anmitsu Hime' and Cym. 'Crystal Cherry Angel', and more vigorous growth than the corresponding species selfed.

Rhizomes of Cymbidium ensifolium, protocorms of western Cymbidium(Cym.) orchids, and protocorms of hybrid between Cym. ensifolium and western orchids were aseptically cultured in vitro on MS medium for 140 days after seeding, and the growing responses were evaluated. Fresh weight of interspecific hybrid propagules with Cym. ensifolium was superior over that of the species inbred, while western Cymbidium orchids which are most hybrids, and showed a similar degree of fresh weight for the hybrids with Cym. ensifolium. Leaf length, leaf width, root length, number of roots, and number of shoots of the propagules were found to be apparently greater than those of Cym. ensifolium species. western Cym. orchids, mostly interspecific hybrids today, also showed the similar or rather barely less extent of superiority in the growth than the Cym. ensifolium hybridized with the western. Zymogram pattern for general protein in electrophoresis demonstrated practically no difference in the feature among Cym. ensifolium species, Cym. ensifolium crossed with Western Cym. orchids alone, indicating the fact that genetical relationship for the taxi among them is mutually close from one to another.
