      • 절수에 의한 Mongolian Gerbil 장기중량변화에 관한 분석연구

        In this study, authors measured the each organ weight of the long term water deprived Mongolian gerbil, after then we calculated the mean, standard deviation, variance coefficient of the real measured organ weight and induced the organ weight change quantity, rate of quantity, deviation between measured and theological organ weight, deviation rate, sum of deviation rate, organ weight change rate, rate of organ weight by the mathematical formula. The results obtained as follow 1. The weight of the brains, lung, and testis were abruptly decreased after water deprived until the 5th day, after then slowly decreased until the 20th day. 2. The weight of the heart was decreased gradually from the first day until the 20th day. 3. The weight of the liver was abruptly decreased until the 10th day, after then the more slowly decreased until the 20th day. 4. The weight of the thymus, spleen, kidney, and pancreas were abruptly decreased until the 15th day, after then increased slowly until 20th day but the weight of the kidney was abruptly increased from the 10th day. 5. The organ weight change rate and the rate of the each day organ weight were very diversified.

      • ICR mouse 체중성장에 관한 연구

        Authors analyze the growth quantities and several factors including in the health ICR mouse by the growth formula utilizing the mean of measured ICR mouse body weight from 3 th week to 8th week. The result were as followings. 1. The variance coefficient of deviation to the mean was lower than 30 percent in all groups. 2. The growth quantities of male was larger than female in body weights of the all group, and body weight of the male and female was gradually increased from 3th week to 8th week. 3. The deviation between the measured and theological body weight of the ICR mouse was below the 2g in all groups of male and female. 4. the deviation precent to the theological growth quantities was below than 5,6% and 11% in male and female group. 5. The sum of the deviation percent of the theological growth quantities of the each group in male and female was 1.69% and 2.3%. thus measured and theological body weight was almost coincidence in all measured weeks. 6. The growth rate of the each week was larger in the 3th week in male and female, after then the growth rate of the male and female was gradually decreased. 7. The specific growth rate of the growth rate to the growth quantities in male and female was largest in the 3th week, after that the rat was gradually decreased.

      • 절수에 의한 mongolian gerbil의 체중 변화에 관한 연구

        Recently, the mongolian gerbils have been used in neurology and the study of water metabolism because of their easy onset of epileptic seizure and typical resistance to water deprivation. The sebaceous glands which are under the control of the gonadal hrmones are differently developed from the other laboratory animals. However the physiological data on the changes of body weight following water deprivation in mongolian gerbils is not available until now. In order to investigate the effect of the water deprivation on the body weight, the animals were deprived of water for 15 days. The body weights were measured daily by the torsion balance. The mean, the standard deviation, the standard error and the coefficient of variance of the body weights were calculated. The correlation was examined. The potential regression equation was y = 61.5458 - 2.0533 * x + 0.0487 * x^2. The regression coefficient was 0.993. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The body weights of the mongolian gerbils were continuously decrased from the 1st day to the 15th day after the water deprivation. 2. The mean body weight on the water deprivation was 63.0±7.00g and that at the 15th day was 41.4 ± 5.42g. 3. The coefficients of the variance showed the highest (13.09) at the 15th day and the lowest (10.10) at the 10th day. the coefficients of the variance kept decreasing until the 10th day and thereafter gradually increased until the 15th day. 4. The changing rate of the body weight kept continuously decreasing from the 1st day to the 15th day showing the daily loss of 1.0 - 3.3%. 5.The deviations (M - QBW) between the measured values (m) and the theorical values (QBW) using the regression equation showed the highest (1.494) at the 1st day and the lowest (0.053) at the 13th day. 6. The sum of the devitions was 0.179 and that of the deviation square was 1.15. The sum of the deviation rates between the mesaured body weights and the theorical ones was 0.484. 7. The daily body weight loss showed the highest at the 1st day by 2.053g and the lowest at the 15th day by 0.591g. 8. The specific body weight changing rates which were the rate of the body weight changing velocity to the changed body weight were decreased from 0.033% at the 1st day to 0.014% at the 15th day.

        n this paper, the eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) algorithm of the real correlation matrix for unitary MUSIC (MUltiple SIgnal Classification) is implemented using Xilinx’s system generator tool. The Jacobi-CORDIC (COrdinate Rotation DIgital Computer) algorithm, which is applied to obtain the eigenvalue and eigenvector of the real matrix, has the advantage of the easy implementation. The simulation results show that the fixed-points results of system generator agree well with floating-points ones of Matlab .

        After treating a patient suffering from pelvic inflammatory disease, a significant result is gained as follows. This study was done from the patient who were at the oriental Medicine Hospital of Daejeon university during 15 days, from 12. 12 to 12. 26, 2001. A 27-year-old patient had complained an abdominal pain, chest discomfort, nausea, vomiting, urination difficulty and constipation. During the hospital periods, the kinds of therapy are acupuncture, moxibustion, herb-med and physical therapy. Given the treatment, she felt so satisfied about her symptom's improvement. But as a result of Ultrasonogram of pelvis, she had multiple follicles on the right ovary, so it had to be given a surgical operation. For the surgical operation, she was transferred to the Chungnam University Hospital

        Ultraviolet 1ight(UV-C, wavelength: 200~280nm) is employed profitably for sterilizing drinking water. For most water serving apparatus such as a water purifier, a water cooler and heater, a coffee vending machine and etc., pre-sterilized water may be contaminated secondarily with bacillary inhabitation in a container before serving, In consideration of this problem, a household water tap which is equipped with a sterilization/Purification device in combination with non-contact UV-lamP, was designed to sterilize and purify water at the last outlet just before serving. HopefuUy this simple but creative item may be commercialized for household and public use.

      • 한국산야생등줄쥐(Apodemus agrarius coreae)의 해마복합체에서 neuropeptide Y 면역반응세포에 관한 연구

        Neuropeptide Y(NPY) was first isolated from porcine brain. This discovery has lead some workers to study the distribution of this peptide in the central nervous system of various mammals. In this study the distribution pattern of neuropeptide Y-immunoreactive neurons was examined in the hippocampal complex of Striped field mouse in Korea(Apodemus agrarius coreae) Experimental animals were anesthesized with thiopental sodium and perfused with 4% paraformaldehyde through the left ventricle and the ascending aorta. The brains were removed and transferred 10%, 20% and 30% sucrose solution. Sections were cut on a cryostat into 40㎛-thick. The tissue was immunostained with free-floating and avidin-biotm complex(ABC) method. The results obtained in this study were summarized as followings. 1. The most of NPY-IR neurons in hippocampus proper were found in the polymorphic layer and a few was found in the pyramidal layer. 2. The process run vertically in the deep polymorphic layer and run parallel to corpus callosum in superficial polymorphic layer. 3. The shapes of neurons in hippocampus proper were varied of polymorphic, oval or round, and the nerve fibers were found in the molecular laver and the hippocampal fissure. 4. The highest density in number of NPY-IR neurons on dentate gyrus were found in hilar area of dentate gyrus. 5. The most of NPY-IR nerve fibers were found in molecular cell layer.

      • Serum amyloid A induces contrary immune responses via formyl peptide receptor-like 1 in human monocytes.

        <P>Although the level of serum amyloid A has been reported to be up-regulated during inflammatory response, the role of serum amyloid A on the regulation of inflammation and immune response has not been elucidated. We found that serum amyloid A stimulated the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha and interleukin (IL)-10, which are proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, respectively, in human monocytes. Low concentrations of serum amyloid A stimulated TNF-alpha production with maximal activity at 6 h after stimulation, whereas high concentrations of serum amyloid A stimulated IL-10 production with maximal activity at 12 h. The activations of the two cytokines by serum amyloid A occurred at both the transcription and translational levels. Signaling events induced by serum amyloid A included the activation of two mitogen-activated protein kinases (extracellular signal-regulated kinase and p38 kinase), which were found to be required for TNF-alpha and IL-10 production, respectively. The stimulation of formyl peptide receptor-like-1-expressing RBL-2H3 cells, but not of vector-expressing RBL-2H3 cells with serum amyloid A, induced mitogen-activated protein kinases activation and the accumulation of the RNAs of these two cytokines. Together, our findings suggest that serum amyloid A modulates contrary immune responses via formyl peptide receptor-like 1, by inducing TNF-alpha or IL-10, and demonstrate that extracellular signal-regulated kinase and p38 kinase play counteracting roles in this process.</P>

        Effects of Cumene Exposure on Synaptophysin and GFAP Expressions in Hippocampus of Rat

        Cumene, a widely used organic solvent, decreases neuronal activity and depresses behavior in both animals and humans. However there are little known about their mechanisms on neuronal toxicity. Hippocampus, one of the limbic areas associated with learning and memory functions, is vulnerability to excitotoxicity. We investigated the effect of acute and subacute exposure of cumene on expressions of synaptophysin and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in the hippocampi. Synaptophysin a neuronal marker of synaptogenesis, has been implicated in disorders of neurodevelopment, and GFAP a crucial role in neuronal survival is a peripheral marker of neurodegeneration. SD male rats were exposed to cumene (0, 8, 80, and 800 ppm) by inhalation chamber for 1, 14, 28, and 90 days. In Western blot analysis, the expression levels of synaptophysin in the hippocampi were significantly increased at 800 ppm on day 14 and significantly decreased at 8 ppm on day 28. Meanwhile, levels of GFAP were significantly increased in hippocampi at 1, 14 and 28 days after cumene exposure when compared to the control group. We found that cumene inhalation could effect on the expression of synaptophysin and GFAP in hippocampus, even dose of 8 ppm. These findings suggest that acute and subacute exposure of cumene may contribute to neuronal dysfunction and degeneration in rat hippocampus.
