Eosinophilic myocarditis is a disease characterized by eosinophilic infiltration of the myocardium, consisting of acute necrotic stage, thrombotic stage, and fibrotic stage. Although T1 mapping has been increasingly used in various cardiac pathologies, there has been no report of T1 mapping in eosinophilic myocarditis. We report a case of 75-year-old female with eosinophilic myocarditis, whose cardiac magnetic resonance imaging included native T1 mapping, in which apical thrombi were distinctly seen as areas with decreased T1 values, next to areas of inflammation seen as increased T1 value in subendocardium.

Bipolar resistive switching in ZnO/SiOx bi-layer and ZnO/SiOx/ZnO tri-layer structures was investigated for nonvolatile memory applications. ZnO thin films were grown using the radiofrequency magnetron sputtering technique at room temperature. SiOx films were grown using plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor deposition at 200 C. Multiple high-resistance states were observed during the set process. The high/low resistance state ratio was 10 during 100 on/off cycles. The tri-layer memory device exhibited better endurance properties than the bi-layer device. Because an asymmetric conducting filament has a weak point for charge conduction at the oxide interfaces, we attributed the good endurance property to the reproducible formation/rupture of “micro”-conducting filaments. Moreover, the dynamics of the oxygen ions in the SiOx layer plays an important role in resistive switching.

This paper proposes a way to filter out the people who give distorted movie ratings in On-line environment. With the movie rating data from Naver (www.naver.com), we have found two typical patterns that the malicious movie raters have presented. The first is that their points are very extreme. The second is that their opinions with regard to the movie are normally very irrelevant to the content of the movie. Leveraging this fact, the proposed scheme could filter out around 7~20% of the raters, which leads to non-trivial change of the ranking of the movies. This paper contributes to the people who want to know the true ratings of movies.

The purpose of this study is to analyze Korean refusal speech acts in various situations and contexts and to clarify Korean language cultural characteristics and their communicational components. Besides, by collecting and analyzing refusal expressions of Chinese speaking Korean learners and Russian speaking Korean learners in given situations, we tried to understand Chinese and Russian language cultural characteristics from a cross-cultural point of view. The result of this study can be utilized as fundamental materials for textbooks or data for explanation, references for discussion. Refusal is to express the willingness to ignore the other’s suggestion or to turn down the other’s request. It can be offensive sometimes. Therefore refusal is often conducted through special language strategies or certain expressions. Koreans’ refusal speech acts are also often performed without clear expression of refusals. Because of this many foreign learners have experienced the actual failure in communications with Korean native speakers even though they have reached high level of Korean language competence. This kind of communicational failure is not because they do not know certain supposition expressions nor certain interrogative expressions. Misunderstanding of Korean language culture and transferring their own pragmatic knowledge into the speaking situation in Korea bring communication failure. We think that the fundamental solution for this kind of problem is to let foreign students understand language culturalmechanism working in Korean refusal speech acts. To extract the language cultural characteristics of Korean refusal speech acts we designed a set of DCT and developed structured interview questions. We conducted these surveys of Korean native speakers, Chinese speaking learners and Russian speaking learners. As a result, we could deduce 5 Korean language cultural characteristics from refusal speech acts, which are modesty, grant, bond, face, sympathy. And also we could notice that China has similar language culture from Korean while Russians show quite different features in terms of directness, politeness and clearness. This study can be used as basic materials for textbooks or explanatory data, references for discussions, hopefully.
RNA Granules and Stress Granules in Virus Systems
Kim, Kyongmin 대한미생물학회 2012 Journal of Bacteriology and Virology Vol.42 No.3
Viruses initiate a number of cellular stress responses and modulate gene regulation and compartmentalization of RNA upon infection to be successful parasites. Virus infections may induce or impair stress granule (SG) formation to maximize replication efficiency. SGs and processing bodies (PBs) are the RNA granules, which contain translationally inactive pool of transcripts as the mRNA silencing foci. PBs and SGs, the highly conserved macromolecular aggregates, can release mRNAs to allow their translations. Unlike constitutively existing PBs that can respond to stimuli and affect mRNA translation and decay, SGs are specifically induced upon cellular stress and can triggers a global translational silencing by several pathways, including phosphorylation of the key translation initiation factor eIF2alpha, tRNA cleavage, and sequestration of cellular components and so on. The dynamics of PBs and SGs are regulated by several signaling pathways, including histone deacetylase 6, and depend on microfilaments and microtubules, and the cognate molecular motors myosin, dynein, and kinesin. SGs share features with aggresomes and related aggregates of unfolded proteins and may play a role in the pathology. The recent advances in understanding the relationship between viruses and mRNA stress granules are summarized.
