      • Cultural characteristics and bioactive efficacy of Novel Phellinus linteus KACC93057P

        Medical mushroom, Phellinus linteus (PL) called as “Sanghwang” has been studied extensively for its extraordinary capacity of suppressing cancer or enhancing body immunity. The mycelial materials of PL have mainly been used as research samples worldwide because its fruiting body was difficult to artificially produce. Alternatively, P. baumii (variety, “Jangsu”) have stably been cultivated in Korea. However, fruiting body morphology of P. baumii is clearly different to that of PL. Of Phellinus isolates collected in Korea, P. linteus, KACC 93057P having features of fast mycelial growth rate was mycologically characterized. This study is to establish artificial cultivation of P. linteus KACC93057P having high mycelial growth rate and to examine bioactive efficacy of its fruiting body. The grain spawn of P linteus KACC93057P was inoculated on oak and mulberry logs (20 cm). The optimum temperature for the mycelial growth was at 25-30°C and growth was optimal at pH 5-7. The mycelial growth of P. linteus was faster than P. baumii and other P. linteus isolates. The mushroom pinning was observed on the 60 days after the inoculation, and fruiting bodies were formed in more than 90% of the logs after 6 months. The productivity fruiting body on the logs was more than 10 times that of the existing P. linteus (Korean Sanhwang). The fruiting bodies showed typical morphologies of P. linteus. The pore shape in basidiocarp is circular with 5-7 per mm, hyphal system is dimity, and basidiospores are ellipsoid. Bioactive efficacy of the fruiting bodies was analyzed by immunoreactivity and antioxidant activity.

      • Implementation and Analysis of Win32 Native Distributed Compilation System - WinDistcc

        Many software vendors are suffering from heavy compilation overload because the size of their software product is getting bigger and bigger. One of the promising solutions to reduce the compilation time is to use a distributed compiler. It allows us to compile multiple files on several machines concurrently. However most of distributed compilers can’t deliver ideal performance due to many undesired overheads such as communication overhead, lack of resources, load imbalance, file dependence, and so on. In order to study the detailed performance matrices, we developed the Win32 prototype of a distributed compiler based on distcc (GNU distributed compiler) [1], [2], called WinDistcc. WinDistcc contains additional features based on distcc’s basic functions. The compiler supports two kinds of compilation modes: a local preprocessing or a remote preprocessing. We measured the performances in both cases and identify reasons of performance degradation in normal distributed compilers. Based on the performance study, we could understand the design requirement for ideal distributed compilers.

        FinTech-driven paradigm shift in financial service poses challenges for financial sector in balancing the potential benefits of development with the potential risks. It is difficult to detect as advanced threats, so the extent of the damage cannot be foreseen in the financial sector. In this paper, we suggest the approach based on trust about processing data including personally identifiable information for preserving and protecting in the environment using FinTech.

        Reflections on the Movement for the Legalization of “Death with Dignity as Withdrawal of Futile Life-Sustaining Treatment” in South Korea

        In this article, we will introduce Korea’s medico-legal cases that are related to the withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment. This paper examines the issue of the legalization of “death with dignity” by investigating Korea’s leading cases on the withdrawal of life-sustaining treatments and the current medical and legal situation in Korea. This paper also examines several preconditions for drafting a bill for such legislation. Considering the complexity of medical circumstances, laws and policies on end-of-life decision-making may not address every possible scenario. Thus, the laws and the policies would have to reflect the differing views of people based on their social status, moral values, religious beliefs, and economic status. Therefore, it should be recognized that a public consensus is necessary for devising successful public policy and guidelines with respect to euthanasia and “death with dignity” in Korea. So proper guidelines and public debates that incorporate the views of the public, the government, and medical and legal professional associations will help create a firmer foundation for making better laws and policies regarding the end of life care issues.

      • A case report : ovarian torsion of Brenner tumor

        Introduction: Borderline Brenner tumor of the ovary is a rare entity characterized by papillary structures with a fibro-vascular core, covered by a transitional epithelium, and by the absence of stromal infiltration. It is associated, by definition, with a benign component of Brenner tumor. We introduced a case about ovarian torsion of Brenner tumor. Material&method: A fifty-one years old women came to emergency room. Her chief complain was continous lower abd. pain since 3 days ago. She has 2 babies. Her menstrual cycle finished 1 years ago. She has Diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The CT scanning was compared prior CT imagings that was taken 4 years ago. There was a calcified solid mass on Rt. ovary in prior CT, About 13x10x10cm-sized well defined multiseptated cystic lesion was added on this mass. There was small amount ascites. There was a twisted ovarian pedicle on inferior portion of mass. About 7.3x9.6x8.6cm-sized well defined mass was on Lt. adnexa. The upper portion of Rt. mass was cystic portion, and the lower portion was solid mass. There was small Lymph node on Lt. paraaortic region. It seemed the reactive lesion. The beta-hcg level was below 1.20. The AFP level was 2.32. The CEA level was 2.0. The CA19-9 level was below 2.00. The CA125 level was 20.2. After low midline incision was made. Entering abdominal cavity, the uterus was normal. Both ovary cyst was seen and The Rt. ovary was twisted for 3 times. Bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy was done. The result of frozen biopsy was both brenner tumor. Result: The pathologist's conclusion was Brenner tumor originated from both ovaries. and Ovarian cystic fluid was no definite malignant tumor cells present. Her symptom such as severe abdominal pain was disappeared after surgery. Conclusion:Further investigation is required to determine whether associated Brenner tumors found during frozen section are more highly associated with malignancy and could therefore change intraop-erative and overall decision making.

      • A New Approach for Time-dependent Cancer Volatiles Profiling via Isotope-labeling

        While extensive research has been done on cancer detection using volatile biomarkers, the intracellular biochemical processes for the origin of biomarkers have not been fully elucidated. These limitations interrupt practical application of volatile biomarkers. Therefore, we developed a metabolism tracking method utilizing isotope labeling and flux analysis to overcome this problem. This novel method allows us to track intracellular volatiles and clarify their association with cancer metabolism. In this study, the carbon isotope ratio of <SUP>13</SUP>C-labeled lung cancer cell was measured using NanoSIMS-based imaging. The kinetic modeling of time-dependent isotopic ratio deduced the duration of cancer cell reaching a steady state of metabolism, at which point all potential intracellular volatiles are completely replaced by isotopes. In addition, by measuring the enrichment of isotopes in volatiles, it was revealed that 2-pentadecanone is derived from the fatty acid synthesis starting from glucose. Moreover, it was confirmed that this metabolic pathway is upregulated in cancer cells such as colon cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer compared to normal cells. These results indicate that this new method will be an effective strategy for tracing the origin of cancer volatiles and understanding intracellular metabolic pathways.

        완전동형암호로 암호화된 데이터에 적합한 산술 가산기의 구현 및 성능향상에 관한 연구

        본 연구에서는 완전동형암호로 암호화된 데이터에 적용할 수 있는 가산기 및 다수개의 데이터를 가산할 때 적용할 수 있는 성능이 향상된 가산 방법을 제안한다. 제안 산술 가산기는 기존의 하드웨어 기반의 산술 가산기 중 최적 회로단계(level)를 가지는 Kogge-Stone Adder 방법을 기반으로 하며, 완전동형암호가 제공하는 암호학적 SIMD(Single Instruction for Multiple Data) 기법을 적용하기에 적합하게 설계되었다. 제안한 다수 가산 방법은 완벽한 가산 결과를 보장하는 Kogge-Stone Adder를 반복적으로 사용하여 다수개의 데이터를 가산하지 않고, 3개 이상의 수를 더해야 할 경우, Full-Adder를 이용하여 3개의 수를 최종 C(Carry-out)과 논리합의 결과인 S(Sum) 의 두 개로 줄인다. 이러한 과정을 반복하여 최종적으로 두 개의 수를 더할 경우에만 Kogge-Stone Adder를 사용하여 가산하는 방법이다. 제안 방법은 더하고자 하는 데이터의 개수가 많아질수록 성능이 비약적으로 향상되었고, 이를 실험을 통해 검증한다. In this paper, we propose an adder that can be applied to data encrypted with a fully homomorphic encryption scheme and an addition method with improved performance that can be applied when adding multiple data. The proposed arithmetic adder is based on the Kogge-Stone Adder method with the optimal circuit level among the existing hardware-based arithmetic adders and suitable to apply the cryptographic SIMD (Single Instruction for Multiple Data) function on encrypted data. The proposed multiple addition method does not add a large number of data by repeatedly using Kogge-Stone Adder which guarantees perfect addition result. Instead, when three or more numbers are to be added, three numbers are added to C (Carry-out) and S (Sum) using the full-adder circuit implementation. Adding with Kogge-Stone Adder is only when two numbers are finally left to be added. The performance of the proposed method improves dramatically as the number of data increases.

      • Ethical Considerations on Health Policy Making for Vulnerable People : Focused on HIV/AIDS Patients

        AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is the greatest threat to health in the world. However, AIDS is not only related to health issues but also to social, economic and justice issues. The HIV/AIDS epidemic, which raised many ethical and moral question is a global issue. Even though AIDS is an important global issue, it has not been discussed in the public because there are still many unfair social stigmas attached to HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this paper is to address the seriousness of HIV/AIDS in social context and to reconsider how false perceptions of HIV/AIDS result in social stigma. Also we will examine the theoretical foundations that can help to solve the HIV/AIDS issue centered on human rights. To motivate practical action among people on the global HIV/AIDS issue, examination of our moral and ethical obligations to others who are needy and vulnerable is necessary. This kind of work will help to solve the question of how we can change the social discourse on HIV/AIDS and to make better heath policy for vulnerable group.
