        The Relationship Among Leadership Style, Job Stress, Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment of Public Officials in the Public Health Promotion Program

        본 연구의 목적은 통합건강증진사업을 관리하는 공무원의 리더십 스타일, 직무스트레스, 직무만족도 및 조직몰입이 어떠한 관련성이 있는지를 알아보는 것이다. 연구대상은 인천시 보건소에 근무하는 통합건강증진사업 담당자 113명이었다. 통계분석방법은 t-검증, 일원변량분석, 위계적 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 리더십 스타일은 목표달성형과 분석형이 높았다. 직무만족도는 성별, 연령, 결혼여부에 따라, 조직몰입은 연령과 결혼여부에 따라 유의한 차이가 있었으며, 직무스트레스는 차이가 없었다. 기혼이고 직무스트레스가 낮을수록 직무만족도와 조직몰입이 높았다. 분석형 리더십은 직무만족도에, 비전제시형 리더십은 조직몰입에 영향을 미쳤다. 본 연구는 직무스트레스 감소와 개인의 리더십 향상을 위한 직무교육 프로그램의 개발과 제도적 지원을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. This study was to investigate the relationship among leadership style, job stress, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment of public officials who manage integrated public health promotion programs (IPHPP). The subjects were 113 in charge of the IPHPP. For analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used. The leadership style was high in director and monitor. There were differences in job satisfaction by gender, age, marital status and organizational commitment by age and marital status. There was no difference in job stress. Married and lower job stress resulted in higher job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Monitor leadership influenced job satisfaction, and innovator leadership influenced organizational commitment. This study can be used as baseline data for the development of a job training program on reducing job stress and improving leadership and for its institutional support.

        의학교육 전문부서 교원의 탈진현상

        Medical education departments or offices are established in response to public expectations relating to health care, societal trends towards increased accountability, educational developments, increased interest in what to teach and how to educate doctors. However, heavy workloads and mixed feelings towards medical education departments or offices by the other members of a medical school can threaten job satisfaction and increase burnout. The authors investigated the prevalence of burnout among medical education specialists and related issues. Individual in-depth interviews with four medical education specialists were conducted to develop a questionnaire. After content analysis of the interview, the authors generated a survey form with 28 items including 6 categories: motivation to choose medical education as a career, job satisfaction, intention to leave their current position in medical education, the frequency and causes of burnout, and demographics. In September 2013, an email survey was administered to 43 faculty including non-tenure staff who were working in the department/office of medical education in 41 medical colleges in Korea. Of 43 medical education specialists, 25 (60%) returned surveys. Forty three-point-three percent of them felt encouraged when their endeavors generated a visible educational improvement in the medical school. A majority (87%) reported feeling burned out. Fifty percent of them experienced the feeling once or twice a year. The extent of burnout tended to be greater in women, those in their forties, those with non-medical doctor degrees, and in non-tenured staff. To reduce and prevent burnout among medical education specialists, the participants suggested that leadership of medical schools and a systematic approach to medical education should be established. A majority of the medical education specialists reported experiencing burnout, although they were satisfied with their jobs. To reduce their burnout and allow them to focus on their own work in medical education, the following factors are needed: perceptual changes of other members of the college about medical education; more systematic institutional strategies; networking among medical education specialists; and personal efforts for professional development.

        의학전문대학원생의 진로설계 프로그램 모형에 따른 의학세부전공 선택 동기와 진로의식성숙도의 차이

        의과대학생이 의학 전문분야를 선택하는 것은 대학의 전공을 선택하는 것만큼이나 중요한 진로의 사결정과정의 하나이다. 그러나 의대생을 대상으로 진로설계 프로그램을 개발하고 그 결과를 분석한 연구는 저조한 실정이다. 본 연구는 의전원 2학년 74명을 대상으로 진로설계 프로그램을 개발하고 그 효과를 분석하였다. 연구대상은 세 그룹이다. A그룹은 소그룹 토론식 프로그램을 수강한 그룹이며, B 그룹은 대그룹 강의식 프로그램을 수강한 그룹이며, C그룹은 프로그램을 수강하지 않은 그룹이었다. 프로그램 사전과 사후에 의학세부전공 선택 동기와 진로의식성숙 설문을 실시하였다. 사전 검사에서 세 집단의 동질성이 확보되었다(p〉0.05). 집단별 사전-사후 검사 결과, A그룹은 내적 동기 요인 (t=-2.600, p〈0.05)과 진로의식성숙의 하위요인 중 결정성(t=-2.575, p〈0.05)과 독립성(t=-2.244, p〈0.05) 이 유의미하게 높아졌다. B그룹은 진로의식성숙의 하위요인 중 독립성(t=2.202, p〈0.05)이 유의미하게 낮아졌다. 결론적으로 소규모 토론식 진로설계 프로그램이 내적동기와 진로의식성숙의 결정성과 독립성 향상에 효과가 있었다. The choice of a medical specialty by medical students is as important as the choice of a college major. However, there is a lack of research on the development of a career planning program for medical students. The purpose of this study was to develop a career design program and analyze the effects of this program in 74 second medical students. The subjects are classified into three groups : Group A was small group, Group B was large group, Group C did not take the program. In order to analyze the program effect, we conducted career motivation and career maturity questionnaire. Pre-test ensured homogeneity among the three groups (p〉 0.05). A group had a significantly higher internal motivation(t=-2.600, p〈0.05), and the decisiveness(t=-2.575, p〈0.05) and independence(t=-2.244, p〈0.05) of career maturity. B group had significantly lower independence. In conclusion, a small group based career planning program was effective in improving internal motivation for career choice, decisiveness and independence of career maturity.

        Antitumor Activity of LB42907, a Potent and Selective Farnesyltransferase Inhibitor: Synergistic Effect in Combination with Other Anticancer Drugs

        Inhibitors of farnesyltransferase (FT), a key enzyme in the post-translational modifications of Ras proteins, have been extensively studied as novel anticancer agents in the preclinical stages, some of which are currently in clinical development. Previously, it has been reported that a novel FT inhibitor LB42907 inhibits Ras farnesylation in the nanomolar range in vitro. The aim of this study was to assess the antitumor efficacy of LB42907 in vitro and in vivo. Anchorage-independent growth of various human tumor cell lines was potently inhibited by treatment with LB42907, comparable to other FT inhibitors in clinical development. In the nude mouse, oral administration of LB42907 demonstrated potent antitumor activity in several human tumor xenograft models including bladder, lung and pancreas origin. Interestingly, significant tumor regression in EJ (bladder) and A549 (lung) xenografts was induced by LB42907 treatment. The effectiveness of LB42907 was also investigated in simultaneous combination with paclitaxel, vincristine, cisplatin or gemcitabine against NCI-H460, A549, and HCT116 cells in vitro using median-effect analysis. LB42907 markedly synergized with most anticancer drugs tested in this study in NCI-H460 cell. In contrast, LB42907 displayed antagonism or partial synergism with these drugs in A549 and HCT116 cells, depending on the class of combined drugs and/ or the level of cytotoxicity. Our results demonstrate that LB42907 is an effective antitumor agent in vitro and in vivo and combination of LB42907 with other chemotherapeutic drugs results in synergistic or antagonistic effects mainly in a cell line-dependent manner. Further preclinical study is warranted.

        To produce well-qualified medical doctors, clinical training is a crucial part of medical education. To this end, teaching hospitals should be carefully selected and professionally managed. However, in Korea, there are no regulations or standards for training hospitals. Instead, some of the regulations that target teaching interns and residents are applied to teaching hospitals. In this study, we reviewed standards and regulations for training hospitals in other countries as a basis for proposing new standards for teaching hospitals in Korea. These new standards take into account the current environment of Korean medicine with the aim of designing appropriate educational programs for students and professional development systems for professors as well as providing educational resources and addressing the local community and international exchange opportunities.
