Purified malformin Al (cyclo-D-Cys-D-Cys-L-Val-D-Leu-L-Ile), a cyclicpentapeptide toxin from Aspergillus niger, was applied to the hypocotyl segments of mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) seedlings to investigate its role in regulating ethylene biosynthesis. Production of ethylene was induced by treating the plants with 0.1 mM indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). When 0.1 μM malformin A1 was then applied, ethylene production increased and the activities of two key enzymes for its biosynthesis, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC)-synthase (ACS) and ACC-oxidase (ACO), were also stimulated. However, at levels of 1 or 10 μM malformin A1, both ethylene production and enzymatic activities were significantly reduced. In the case of ACO, in vitro activity was regulated by malformin Al, independent of ACS activity or the influence of IAA. Furthermore, the conjugate form of ACC, N-malonyl ACC, was significantly promoted by treatment with 0.1 μM malformin A1. These data suggest that malformin A1 can modulate ethylene production through diverse paths and that its effect depends on the concentration of the treatment administered.

A two years old intact female Minature Schnauzer was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with an intermittent seizure by traffic accident. No specific finding was found by radiography and computer tomography (CT). Hematologic and blood chemical examination revealed that PCV (62.5%), BUN (72.6 mg/dl), CK (1769 U/l), ALT (169 U/l) and ALP (353 U/l) were increased. This dog was recovered by medical treatment.

A 10 years old, intact male, Maltese dog with clinical signs of labored respiration, exercise intolerance and increasing of coughing was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. Physical examination revealed tachycardia, panting and mild cyanosis. This case was diagnosed as mitral valve insufficiency by clinical signs, ascultation, blood chemistry, radiography and electrocardiography. This dog was treated with ACE inhibitor (enalapril), diuretics (furosemide) and bronchodilator (aminophylline) for 14 days. After treatment, clnical signs were disappeared and also this dog was needed to be continuous monitoring and sodium restricted diet.

Compound K (C-K) is one of the most pharmaceutically effective ginsenosides, but it is absent in natural ginseng. However, C-K can be obtained through the hydrolysis of protopanaxadiol-type ginsenosides (PPDGs) in natural ginseng. The aim of this study was to obtain the high concentration of food-available C-K using PPDGs in Korean ginseng extract by an extracellular enzyme from Aspergillus niger KACC 46495. A. niger was cultivated in the culture medium containing the inducer carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) for 6 days. The extracellular enzyme extracted from A. niger was prepared from the culture broth by filtration, ammonium sulfate, and dialysis. The extracellular enzyme was used for C-K production using PPDGs. The glycoside-hydrolyzing pathways for converting PPDGs into C-K by the extracellular enzyme were Rb1 → Rd → F2 → C-K, Rb2 → Rd or compound O → F2 or compound Y → C-K, and Rc → Rd or compound Mc1 → F2 or compound Mc → C-K. The extracellular enzyme from A. niger at 8.0 mg/ml, which was obtained by the induction of CMC during the cultivation, converted 6.0 mg/ml (5.6 mM) PPDGs in Korean ginseng extract into 2.8 mg/ml (4.5 mM) food-available C-K in 9 h, with a productivity of 313 mg/l/h and a molar conversion of 80%. To the best of our knowledge, the productivity and concentration of C-K of the extracellular enzyme are the highest among those by crude enzymes from wild-type microorganisms.

Twelve Universal fungal PCR fingerprint (UFPF) primers that were modified from Universal rice primer (URP) were used to assess genetic diversity of 64 Agaricus strains including 45 A. bisporus strains and other 19 strains of other Agaricus spp. Eight primers, UFPF1, UFPF2, UFPF3, UFPF7, UFPF9, UFPF10, UFPF11, and UFPF12 produced PCR polymorphic bands within and between the Agaricus species. Primer UFPF7 produced specific PCR polymorphic bands that are distinct Korean strain from different strains. Ninety five PCR polymorphic bands were inputted for UPGMA cluster analysis. Forty five strains of A. bisporusare genetically clustered into 8 groups, showing coefficient similarity from 0.75 to 0.9 among them. The varieties, Saea, Saedo, Saejeong and Saeyeon that have recently been developed in Korea were involved in the same group with close genetic relationship of coefficient similarity over 0.96, whereas, other Korean strains were genetically related to A. bisporus strains that were introduced from USA, Eroupe and Chinese.
K이 흡착된 Si(111)7×7표면에 대한 RHEED 연구

상온 및 200℃∼600℃의 Si(111) 7×7 표면에 칼륨(K)을 증착하였을 때의 표면격자구조 변화를 RHEED로 관측하였다. K 증착시 Si(111)7×7 기판의 온도가 상온인 경우, 어느 일정한 증착시간(포화덮임률에 도달했다고 추정되는 증착시간)이 지난 후에는 원래의 깨끗한 Si(111)7×7 패턴과 유사한 Si(111) 7×7-K 패턴이 관측되었고, 증착시간을 증가시켜도 RHEED 패턴은 변화하지 않았다. 이것을 annealing하면 350℃까지는 RHEED 패턴에 변화가 없다가 그 이상의 온도가 되면 서서히 원래의 7×7 패턴으로 되돌아가기 시작한다. Si(111) 7×7기판의 온도를 200℃∼600℃로 유지하면서 K을 일정시간(450℃에서 3×1이 형성되는 증착시간)이상 증착시킨 경우에 250℃까지는 상온의 경우와 비슷한 형태의 변형된 7×7 패턴이 관측되고, 300℃∼550℃일때는 3×1, 550℃ 이상에서는 1×1 구조가 관측되었다. 이때 300℃∼550℃에서 형성된 Si(111) 3×1-K 구조는 450℃에서 1분 정도 annealing 하면 항상 Si(111) 1×1-K 구조로 상전이가 일어남을 관측하였다. Potassium adsorbed surface structures of Si(111) 7×7 surface at room and high temperatures(200℃∼600℃) were investigated by RHEED. Potassium adsorption on the Si(111) 7×7 surface to saturated coverage at room temperature changed the RHEED pattern of Si(111) 7×7 to Si(111) 7×7-K. Subsequent heating of the Si(111) 7×7-K surface above 350℃ results in a Si(111) 7×7 with desorbing K. The RHEED pattern of the K-adsorbed on the Si(111) 7×7 surface up to the adsorption temperature of 250℃ was the modified 7×7 pattern, quite similar to that of the Si(111) 7×7-K, observed at room temperature. The 3×1 structure was observed in the temperature of adsorption between 300℃ and 550℃. Regardless of the adsorption temperature, a phase transition always took place from the Si(111) 3×1-K structure to Si(111) 1×1-K after annealing at 450℃ over 1 minute.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality characteristics and anti-oxidative activities in the rice cookies with R. glutinosa Preparata (0%, 4%, 8%, 12%) and bean flour (10%). The moisture of cookies was increased depending on amount of R. glutinosa Preparata (RRP). The pH of cookies with RRP was lower than that of the control cookies. Sugar content and reducing sugar of cookies were increased according to the amount of RRP. L-value and b-value of cookies with 12% RRP were lower than the control, whereas a-value was higher than the control. Spread factor of cookies with RRP was lower than the control, and hardness of cookies was increased depending on amount of RRP added. The antioxidant activity such as DPPH radical and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity was significantly increased in the cookies with RRP, compared with that of the control. Also, total phenol content of cookies was increased according to the amount of RRP. In sensory test, cookies with 8% RRP received the highest score for overall preference. As a result, the optimum amount of RRP concentrate to be added in the cookies was found to be 8%.
