Factors affecting in vitro propagation and microtuberization were evaluated for Gloriosa superba L., an endangered ornamental cum medicinal plant having limited reproductive capacity. Surface sterilization of tuber explants with 0.1% mercuric chloride (HgCl2) for 5 min eliminated the contamination effectively with highest survival rate. Among the various combinations used,Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with 2.0 mg L-1 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) + 0.5 mg L-1 α-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) containing 3% sucrose with 16-h photoperiod exhibited the greatest in vitro tuberization (3.2) with the highest shoot regeneration frequency (90%). The longest tuber regeneration occurred on MS media containing 4% sucrose. Transfer of in vitro-regenerated shoots to half-strength MS medium with 1.0 mg L-1 indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) + 0.5 mg L-1 NAA showed maximum root induction (66.6%). The in vitro-grown plantlets were successfully acclimatized and transplanted to sterilized soil and sand mixture (3:1) in the glasshouse with 70% survival. The colchicine content was determined in the tubers of ex vitro plants by HPLC using the same retention time (1.5 min) as that of the standard colchicine. This revealed that the micropropagation protocol developed by us for rapid mass production could be used as raw material for colchicine extraction and provides a basis for germplasm conservation and genetic improvement of G. superba.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether manually plucked hairs might serve as an alternative sample for a quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) testing. Twenty three, 1~3 week old, non-bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) vaccinated calves, found to be positive for BVDV by immunohistochemical staining, were selected and hairs were manually plucked from the ear. qRT-PCR was performed on samples consisting of more than 30 hairs (30~100) and whole blood. All 23 animals were positive for the virus by qRT-PCR performed on the whole blood and when samples of more than 30 hairs were assayed. Additionally, qRT-PCR was performed on groups of 10 and 20 hairs harvested from 7 out of 23 immunohistochemical staining-positive calves. When groups of 20 and 10 hairs were tested, 6 and 4 animals, respectively, were positive for the virus.

This study demonstrated that the addition of a p-type CuAlO<sub>2</sub> (CAO) nanolayer improves the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of sputtered CZTSSe thin film solar cells (TFSCs). The addition of CAO nanolayer before absorber layer shows improved Cu<sub>2</sub>ZnSn(S,Se)<sub>4</sub> (CZTSSe) absorber crystallinity, more compact, larger grain sizes morphology with fewer pinholes. Further, the CZTSSe device with optimum deposition time (154 sec) of CAO nanolayer successfully reduced Mo(S,Se)<sub>2</sub> layer thickness from ~50 nm to ~25 nm. The fabricated CZTSSe device with optimized CAO nanolayer exhibits higher shunt resistance (Rsh), and lower series resistance (Rs) which resulted in improved short-circuit density (Jsc) from 33.48 to 35.40 mA/cm<sup>2</sup> compared to the reference device (without CAO nanolayer). The optimized CZTSSe device with CAO nanolayer showed a PCE of 10.54% compared to 9.67% for the reference device (without CAO). This work suggests that a further optimized CAO nanolayer can largely influence the CZTSSe absorber and back electrode interface quality which may further significantly improve the PCE of kesterite CZTSSe TFSCs.
A Comparative Analysis of Music Similarity Measures in Music Information Retrieval Systems

The digitization of music has seen a considerable increase in audience size from a few localized listeners to a wider range of global listeners. At the same time, the digitization brings the challenge of smoothly retrieving music from large databases. To deal with this challenge, many systems which support the smooth retrieval of musical data have been developed. At the computational level, a query music piece is compared with the rest of the music pieces in the database. These systems, music information retrieval (MIR systems), work for various applications such as general music retrieval, plagiarism detection, music recommendation, and musicology. This paper mainly addresses two parts of the MIR research area. First, it presents a general overview of MIR, which will examine the history of MIR, the functionality of MIR, application areas of MIR, and the components of MIR. Second, we will investigate music similarity measurement methods, where we provide a comparative analysis of state of the art methods. The scope of this paper focuses on comparative analysis of the accuracy and efficiency of a few key MIR systems. These analyses help in understanding the current and future challenges associated with the field of MIR systems and music similarity measures.

Understanding heat transfer characteristics of sheet metal is of practical importance in sheet metal rolling operation to ensure strength and quality of final product. We present a numerical study of free surface planar liquid jet impingement on a uniformly heated moving surface. Scale adaptive simulation (SAS) for turbulent flow and volume of fluid (VOF) method was used to capture the liquid-air interface. The computational domain was divided into two parts to carry out 3D simulations, then results of separate domains were superimposed to resolve boundary conditions. A parametric study considered three different jet Reynolds numbers of 4000, 8000 and 12000. Four different surface to jet velocity ratios, u s /u j , were considered. We focused on studying interfacial flow characteristics, turbulence intensity variations, and their relation to heat transfer. Splitting the domain into two parts and superimposing results as boundary conditions resulted in a reasonable accuracy and reduced computation cost. We observed that gravity significantly affects interfacial structures at Reynolds number of 4000. As surface velocity increases, the heat removal rate from the impingement surface in the direction of plate motion increases. However, contrasting trends are observed in the reverse direction despite increased turbulence fluctuations with surface velocity.

We have synthesized polyethylene oxide (PEO) + NH<sub>4</sub>PF<sub>6</sub> polymer electrolyte films plasticized with ethylene carbonate (EC) and a mixture of ethylene carbonate and propylene carbonate (EC/PC) by using a solution cast technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results show a decrease in crystallinity from ∼67% in the unplasticized complex to 39% and 35% in the EC- and the EC/PC-plasticized complexes, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results show the formation of a fringed miscellar structure in the plasticized complexes. An increased coordination between dissociated ions and the ether oxygen of PEO on plasticization is established from the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) studies. The ionic conductivity shows an enhancement of about two orders of magnitude on plasticization. The room-temperature ionic conductivities of the highest conducting compositions are obtained as ∼1.52 × 10<sup>−5</sup> S cm<sup>−1</sup> and ∼1.03 × 10<sup>−5<sup> S cm<sup>−1</sup> in the EC- and the EC/PC-plasticized complexes, respectively. The highest conducting compositions of plasticized polymer electrolyte films are used to fabricate proton batteries with the configuration Zn/ZnSO<sub>4</sub>.7H<sub>2</sub>O (anode) ∥Polymer electrolyte∥ PbO<sub>2</sub>/V<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub> (cathode), and different battery parameters are reported.
