In this paper, we show that an unbounded $S_0$-demicompact linear operator T with respect to a bounded linear operator $S_0$, acting on a Banach space, can be characterized by the Kuratowskii measure of noncompactness. Moreover, some other quantities related to this measure provide sufficient conditions to the operator T to be $S_0$-demicompact. The obtained results are used to discuss the connection with Fredholm and upper Semi-Fredholm operators.
Magnetic phase coexistence in nanosized La0.5–xHoxCa0.5MnO3 manganites

In this paper, magnetic phase coexistence and stability of charge ordering in La0.5–xHoxCa0.5MnO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15) nanosized samples have been investigated. The particle size of all the samples is located between 47 and 62 nm. The studied samples show pertinent phenomena like Griffiths phase, training effect, exchange bias, charge ordering and magnetic phase separa- tion. At 5 K, the application of 10 T magnetic field generates more ferromagnetic domains in Ho-based samples, indicating that Ho substitution destabilizes the long-range charge ordering characterizing the parent compound La0.5Ca0.5MnO3.

In this paper, we provide a characterization of upper semi-Fredholm operators via the relative demicompactness concept. The obtained results are used to investigate the stability of various essential spectra of closed linear operators under perturbations belonging to classes involving demicompact, as well as, relative demicompact operators.
The class of $p$-demicompact operators on lattice normed spaces

In the present paper, we introduce a new class of operators called $p$-demicompact operators between two lattice normed spaces $X$ and $Y$. We study the basic properties of this class. Precisely, we give some conditions under which a $p$-bounded operator be $p$-demicompact. Also, a sufficient condition is given, under which each $p$-demicompact operator has a modulus which is $p$-demicompact. Further, we put in place some properties of this class of operators on lattice normed spaces.

In the first part of this paper we show that, under some conditions, a polynomially demicompact operator can be demicompact. An example involving the Caputo fractional derivative of order $\alpha $ is provided. Furthermore, we give a refinement of the left and the right Weyl essential spectra of a closed linear operator involving the class of demicompact ones. In the second part of this work we provide some sufficient conditions on the inputs of a closable block operator matrix, with domain consisting of vectors which satisfy certain conditions, to ensure the demicompactness of its closure. Moreover, we apply the obtained results to determine the essential spectra of this operator.

Rhamnus alaternus (Rhamnaceae) has been used as a laxative, purgative, diuretic, antihypertensive, and depurative. However, few scientific research studies on its antimelanoma activity have been reported. This study aimed to investigate the in vitro antimelanoma effect of an enriched total oligomer flavonoid (TOF) extract, from R. alaternus, and to identify its phytochemical compounds. The chemical composition of TOF extract was assessed by HPLC-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-MS2) analysis. Antimelanoma activity was determined on cultured tumor cell B16F10 by the crystal violet assay, the alkaline comet assay, acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB), annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate/ propidium iodide (V-FITC/PI) staining, the cell cycle distribution, and the wound healing assay. Regarding chemical composition, a mixture of quercetin diglucoside, quercetin-3-O-neohesperidoside, kaempferol-3-O-(2G-α-L-rhamnosyl)-rutinoside, rhamnetin hexoside, kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside, rhamnocitrin hexoside, pilosin hexoside, apigenin glucoside, and kaempferol-3-O-glucoside was identified as major phytochemical compounds of the extracts. TOF extract inhibits melanoma B16F10 cell proliferation in dose-dependent manner. The induction of apoptosis was confirmed by comet assay, AO/EB, and annexin V-FITC/PI test. TOF extract could also induce S phase cell cycle, inhibit, and delay the cell migration of B16F10 cells. The findings showed that TOF extract from R. alaternus could be a potentially good candidate for future use in alternative antimelanoma treatments.

Tuta absoluta (Povolny, 1994) is a devastating moth to the Solanaceae plants. It is a challenging pest to control, especially on tomatoes. In this work, we studied the entomopathogenic activity of the Cry-forming δ-endotoxins produced by Bacillus thuringiensis strain KS and B. thuringiensis kurstaki reference strain HD1 against T. absoluta. These strains carried the cry2, cry1Ab, cry1Aa / cry1Ac, and cry1I genes, and KS also carried a cry1C gene. The δ-endotoxins of KS were approximately twofold more toxic against the third instar larvae than those of HD1, as they showed lower 50% and 90% lethal concentrations (0.80 and 2.70 μg/cm² (δ-endotoxins/tomato leaf)) compared with those of HD1 (1.70 and 4.50 μg/cm²) (p < 0.05). Additionally, the larvae protease extract showed at least six caseinolytic activities, which activated the KS and HD1 δ- endotoxins, yielding the active toxins of about 65 kDa and the protease-resistant core of about 58 kDa. Moreover, the histopathological effects of KS and HD1 δ-endotoxins on the larvae midgut consisted of an apical columnar cell vacuolization, microvillus damage, and epithelial cell disruption. These results showed that the KS strain could be a candidate for T. absoluta control.
