Partial Purification and Characterization of a Glycoprotein Factor from Fresh Ginseng
Kong, Yun-Cheung,Fong, Wing-Ping,Song, Myung-Eun,Ng, Kam-Hung,Ho, Dan-Dan,Ng, Ping-Chung The Korean Society of Ginseng 1990 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.14 No.2
The aqueous extract of fresh ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) contains a macromolecular fraction that showed mitogenic and co-mitogenic activities in human peripheral blood lymphocytes. Purification of the crude extract by size (ultrafiltration, Sephadex G-200) and charge (DEAE-cellulose, DEAE-Sepharose) yielded a semi.purified fraction (DS-3). This fraction contains at least three subgroups of anionic macromolecules with apparent molecular weight greater than 600 kilodaltons. It is a glycoprotein with a large amount of glucuronic acid. It acts as a mitogen in both T and B cells of human peripheral blood lymphocytes. It could also potentiate the mitogenic action of Concanavalin A in lymphocyte T cells. Such potentiation is not due to increased binding of Concanavalin A to the cell surface. Its mitogenic and co-mitogenic effects do depend on the presence of extracellular Ca2+.

The Execution Settlement Contract means a system in civil enforcement procedure which is i) based on the voluntary and equal consultation by the parties, ii) a consent on the subject who exercises the rights of execution applicant(the creditor) and the obligations of respondent(the debtor), duration, manner and contents, iii) an agreement on the suspension of execution and iv) a conclusion of execution of the original judgement by the satisfaction of the performance. There are two major problems surrounding the Execution Settlement Contract in enforcement procedure; a) The creditor can file a suit seeking the implementation of the contract only when the time limit for application for the execution of the original judgment have passed. Debtors often take advantage of this restriction and abuse this contract as the method for property concealment. b) On the other hand, methods for debtor`s relief in the course of enforcement are not sufficient too. To solve above problems, on the one hand, the creditors should be able to file a litigation seeking the implementation of the Execution Settlement Contract disregarding the time limitations for application of the execution of the original judgement. On the other hand, the Vollstreckungsgegenklage should be established for debtor`s relief. In addition, the establishment of execution suspension system which can be initiated by debtor`s application on the basis of the existence of Execution Settlement Contract would be desirable for further relief. In addition, extending the time limit for application of the execution is a candidate for the settlement contract in enforcement procedure.
Pinning Synchronization of Complex Dynamical Networks on Time Scales
Fangdi Kong,Jian-Ping Sun 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.2
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the synchronization problem of complex dynamical networks on time scales, which includes the synchronization problem of continuous-time and discrete-time complex dynamical networks as special cases. A pinning control strategy is designed to achieve synchronization of complex dynamical networks on time scales. Based on the theory of calculus on time scales and the Lyapunov method, pinning synchronization criteria for complex dynamical networks on time scales are established. Moreover, a numerical example is given to verify the effectiveness of theoretical results.
DISCOVERY OF AN X-RAY-EMITTING CONTACT BINARY SYSTEM 2MASS J11201034−2201340
Hu, Chin-Ping,Yang, Ting-Chang,Chou, Yi,Liu, L.,Qian, S.-B.,Hui, C. Y.,Kong, Albert K. H.,Lin, L. C. C.,Tam, P. H. T.,Li, K. L.,Ngeow, Chow-Choong,Chen, W. P.,Ip, Wing-Huen American Astronomical Society 2016 The Astronomical journal Vol.151 No.6

We report the detection of orbital modulation, a model solution, and the X-ray properties of a newly discovered contact binary, Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) J11201034-2201340. We serendipitously found this X-ray point source outside the error ellipse when searching for possible X-ray counterparts of 7-ray millisecond pulsars among the unidentified objects detected by the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. The optical counterpart of the X-ray source (unrelated to the 7-ray source) was then identified using archival databases. The long-term Catalina Real-Time Transient Survey detected a precise signal with a period of P = 0.28876208 (56) days. A follow-up observation made by the Super Light Telescope of Lulin Observatory revealed the binary nature of the object. Utilizing archived photometric data of multi-band surveys, we construct the spectral energy distribution (SED), which is well fit by a K2V spectral template. The fitting result of the orbital profile using the Wilson Devinney code suggests that 2MASS J11201034-2201340 is a short-period A-type contact binary and the more massive component has a cool spot. The X-ray emission was first noted in observations made by Swift, and then further confirmed and characterized by an XMM-Newton observation. The X-ray spectrum can be described by a power law or thermal Bremsstrahlung. Unfortunately, we could not observe significant X-ray orbital modulation. Finally, according to the SED, this system is estimated to be 690 pc from Earth with a calculated X-ray intensity of (0.7 - 1.5) x 10(30) erg s(-1), which is in the expected range of an X-ray emitting contact binary.

Paragonimus westermani: Biochemical and immunological characterizations of paramyosin
Zhao, Qin-Ping,Moon, Sung-Ung,Na, Byoung-Kuk,Kim, Seon-Hee,Cho, Shin-Hyeong,Lee, Hyeong-Woo,Kong, Yoon,Sohn, Woon-Mok,Jiang, Ming-Sen,Kim, Tong-Soo Elsevier 2007 Experimental parasitology Vol.115 No.1

Abstract

Paramyosin of the helminth parasite is a muscle protein that plays multifunctional roles in host-parasite relationships. In this study, we have cloned a gene encoding Paragonimus westermani paramyosin (PwPmy) and characterized biochemical and immunological properties of the recombinant protein. The recombinant PwPmy (rPwPmy) was shown to bind both human immunoglobulin G (IgG) and collagen. The protein was constitutively expressed in various developmental stages of the parasite and its expression level increased progressively as the parasite matured. Immunohistological analysis revealed that PwPmy was mainly localized in subtegumental muscle, tegument and cells surrounding the oral sucker, intestine, and ovary of the parasite. Sera from patients with paragonimiasis showed antibody reactivity against rPwPmy, and IgG1 and IgG4 were predominant. Immunization of mice with rPwPmy also induced high IgG responses. Biochemical and immunological characterization of PwPmy may provide valuable information for the further study to develop a vaccine or a chemotherapeutic agent for paragonimiasis.
