Experimental Investigation and Analysis of Hydroformed Stainless Steel Tubes
Rajiv Selvam,Tanmay Nitin Koche,Sameelur Rahman,Sheikh Shoaib Hassan ASCONS 2018 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF EMERGING MULTIDISCIPLINAR Vol.2 No.2
The experimental investigation and analysis were carried on metal bellows made of 304 stainless steel tubes. FEM analysis using ANSYS was done by varying the manufacturing parameters of bellows, such as internal pressure and die stroke to get an optimum crown diameter of the bellows. An experimental investigation in the form of an optimization is done by varying the manufacturing parameters of metal bellows. Hardness test, forming height vs thickness distribution and micro structure analysis were done to study the hydroforming process.

The dual channel Pierce-Blitzstein photometer (PBPHOT) was productively used at the Flower and Cook Observatory to provide 60 years of study of binary systems and other cosmic objects. We review the history of this instrument, discuss its calibration, and recall some personal and professional interactions with Professor Robert H. Koch.

Novel flexible reflective color media with electronic inks
Koch, Tim,Yeo, Jong-Souk,Zhou, Zhang-Lin,Liu, Qin,Mabeck, Jeff,Combs, Gregg,Korthuis, Vincent,Hoffman, Randy,Benson, Brad,Henze, Dick The Korean Infomation Display Society 2011 Journal of information display Vol.12 No.1
A novel architecture and proprietary electronic inks were developed to provide disruptive digital-media solutions based on an electrokinetic technology platform. The flexible reflective electronic media (eMedia) was fabricated by imprinting three-dimensional microscale structures with a roll-to-roll manufacturing platform. The HP technologies enable the required attributes for eMedia, such as low power, transparency, print-quality color, continuous levels of gray, and lowcost scalability. Pixelation was also demonstrated by integrating with the prototype oxide thin-film transistor backplane, and the system architecture was further developed by stacking primary-colorant layers for color reflective-display application. The innovations described in this paper are currently being developed further for the eSkins, eSignage, and ePaper applications.

This report describes the inception, development and extensive use over 30 years of elliptical polarimeters at the Uni\-versity of Pennsylvania. The initial Mark I polarimeter design utilized oriented retarder plates and a calcite Foster-Clarke prism as the analyzer. The Mark I polarimeter was used on the Kitt Peak 0.9 m in 1969-70 to accomplish a survey of ap\-proximately 70 objects before the device was relocated to the 0.72 m reflector at the Flower and Cook Observatory. Suc\-cessive generations of automation and improvements included the early-80’s optical redesign to utilize a photoelastic modulated wave plate and an Ithaco lock-in amplifier-the photoelastic modulating polarimeter. The final design in 2000 concluded with a fully remote operable device. The legacy of the polarimetric programs includes studies of close binaries, pulsating hot stars, and luminous late-type variables.
POSSIBLE MERGER SIGNATURE IN SZ MAPS
KOCH PATRICK The Korean Astronomical Society 2004 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.37 No.5
We propose an analytical model to estimate the influence of a merger on the thermal SZ effect. Following observations we distinguish between subsonic and transonic mergers. Using analytical velocity fields and the Bernoulli equation we calculate the excess pressure around a moving subcluster for an incompressible subsonic gas. Positive excess around the stagnation point and negative excess on the side of the subcluster lead to characteristic signatures in the SZ map, of the order of $10\%$ compared to the unperturbed signal. For a transonic merger we calculate the change in the thermal spectral SZ function, resulting from bow shock accelerated electrons. The merger shock compression factor determines the power law tail of the new non-thermal electron population and is directly related to a shift in the crossover frequency. This shift is typically a few percent towards higher frequencies.
