Current trends in benzodiazepine research
Klinger, M. The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1982 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.5 No.1
Thank you for inviting me as a guest speaker to this 30th anniversary of the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea. I take it as a compliment to may firm F. Hoffmann-La Roche and Co., Which, has not only dicovered and introduced the benzodiazepines, but has since then been continually in the fore-front of this research. As may subject is going to be "Current Trends in Benzodiazepine Research" I will try to have a look into pending problems. The history of the benzodiazepines has been told several times (e. g. Sternbach, Haefely).
Synthesis of polymeric 1-iminopyridinium ylides as photoreactive polymers
Klinger, Daniel,Nilles, Katja,Theato, Patrick Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2010 Journal of polymer science Part A, Polymer chemist Vol.48 No.4

Two synthetic routes to polymeric 1-imino pyridinium ylides as new photoreactive polymeric architectures were investigated. In the first approach, polymerization of newly synthesized 1-imino pyridinium ylide containing monomers yielding their polymeric analogues was achieved by free radical polymerization. Alternatively, reactive precursor polymers were synthesized and converted into the respective 1-imino pyridinium ylide polymers by polymer analogous reactions on reactive precursor polymers. Quantitative conversion of the reactive groups was achieved with pentafluorophenyl ester containing polymers and newly synthesized photoreactive amines as well as by the reaction of poly(4-vinylbenzoyl azide) with a photoreactive alcohol. The polymers obtained by both routes were examined regarding their photoreaction products and kinetics in solution as well as in thin polymer films. Contact angle measurements of water on the polymer films before and after irradiation showed dramatic changes in the hydrophilicity of the polymers. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(4-vinylbenzoyl azide): A New Isocyanato Group Generating Polymer
Klinger, Daniel,Chang, Ji Young,Theato, Patrick WILEY-VCH Verlag 2007 Macromolecular Rapid Communications Vol.28 No.6

4-Vinylbenzoyl azide was synthesized from p-vinylbenzoic acid and polymerized by free radical polymerization. The obtained polymer contained acyl azide groups which were thermally transformed to the corresponding isocyanato groups. Reactions on these polymers with ethanol, hydroxyethyl methacrylate and 1-pyrenebutanol proceeded quantitatively. Time-resolved FT-IR studies of the reactions with ethanol were carried out by varying the concentration and temperature. The effect of the solvent polarity on the Curtius rearrangement was investigated.

A traditional approach to teaching often does not impart to learners how to be actively involved in learning or how to critically think about their learning. Alternative approaches to teaching need to look at important constructivistic assumptions from the sociocultural perspective in psychology. Involving students in a social activity, such as service-learning, can help them to construct knowledge rather than simply be a receiver of information. Integrating service-learning into the learning of developmental and applied psychology courses are used to demonstrate how the process of 'thinking through content' is enhanced for students participating in service-learning.
Synthesis of Photoreactive Block Copolymers Based on 1-Iminopyridinium Ylides
Theato, Patrick,Klinger, Daniel CSIRO Publishing 2010 Australian journal of chemistry Vol.63 No.8

Two photoreactive pyridinium ylide containing monomers, {[2-(metacryloyloxy)ethoxy]carbonyl}(pyridinium-1-yl)azanide (M1) and pyridinium-1-yl-(4-vinylbenzoyl)azanide (M2), were synthesized. Both monomers were polymerized under controlled radical polymerization conditions, i.e. reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (M1 and M2) and nitroxide-mediated polymerization (M2). Further block copolymers PMMA-b-PM1 and PS-b-PM2 were successfully synthesized and their molecular weight, Mn, and block ratio could be determined by 1H NMR analysis, thereby opening the synthetic possibilities of photoreactive ylides in block copolymer syntheses.

EMOTIVE FLUX : A BLINKING SEARCH FIELD

Concrete and the virtual worlds are disordering our existence. Augmented virtuality is blurring the boundaries between the concrete and virtual worlds. A new mixed reality is taking over our lives. Intelligent human centered sensor feeds, enchanted objects (Rose, 2014) and Internet of thing(IoT), immersive ambient assistive technologies are becoming common, and we can not seem to get away from them. These interventions place a greater significance than usual on the experiential qualities of such technologies and necessitate the extension of the concept of emotive discourse into the immaterial.
