<P>The aim of this study was to investigate the underlying mechanisms associated with fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (F-18 FDG) uptake in an incidentally detected thyroid cancer during nonthyroid cancer evaluation. Among 92 patients (10 men and 82 women; mean age, 56.2 +/- 10.9 years; age range, 26-78 years) with focal thyroid FDG uptake during nonthyroid cancer evaluation, 14 patients with cytologically confirmed papillary thyroid cancer were included. For semiquantitative analysis, the maximal standardized uptake value was calculated. Immunohistochemical studies were performed for hypoxia inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF1alpha), HIF2alpha, glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1), GLUT3, carbonic anhydrase IX (CA-IX), hexokinase type II (HK II), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The significant findings of this study were as follows: (1) a lack of HIF1alpha and HIF2alpha expression; (2) low-degree expression of GLUT1 (1 patient), GLUT3 (5 of 14 patients), HK II (3 of 14 patients), and CA-IX (1 patient); and (3) high degree expression of VEGF (all 14 patients). The data presented in this study indicate that F-18 FDG uptake in incidentally detected thyroid cancer was not related to hypoxia-induced upregulation of GLUT1, GLUT3, CA-IX, and HK II. Ki-67 expression was not associated with F-18 FDG uptake. However, all incidentally detected thyroid cancers showed a high degree of expression of VEGF.</P>
Functional Constraints Focused on Recoverability in Phonology

In this paper we deal with some functional considerations behind phonological processes which appear to destroy the underlying contrasts. A series of truncation phenomena, in their nature, result in loss of underlying information, which in turn damages intelligibility in communication. From a functional point of view, there may exist certain processes which seem to compensate for the destruction caused by extensive truncation. We discuss a neutralization process, an influence of deleted segments over the remaining segments, a homonymy-avoiding process, and a case of restructuring in a suffix of a secret language of Lardil. We conclude, then, that all these phenomena deserve new interpretations in the context of recoverability of underlying contrasts, which is based on functional constraints in languages. Gap junctions and their structural proteins, connexins (Cxs), have been implicated in carcinogenesis. To explore the involvement of Cx32 in gastric carcinogenesis, immunochemical analysis of Cx32 and proliferation marker Ki67 using tissue-microarrayed human gastric cancer and normal tissues was performed. In addition, after Cx32 overexpression in the human gastric cancer cell line AGS, cell proliferation, cell cycle analyses, and p21^Cip1 and p27^Kip1 expression levels were examined by bromodeoxyuridine assay, flow cytometry, real-time RT-PCR, and western blotting. Immunohistochemical study noted a strong inverse correlation between Cx32 and Ki67 expression pattern as well as their location. In vitro, overexpression of Cx32 in AGS cells inhibited cell proliferation significantly. G1 arrest, up-regulation of cell cycle-regulatory proteins p21^Cip1 and p27^Kip1 was also found at both mRNA and protein levels. Taken together, Cx32 plays some roles in gastric cancer development by inhibiting gastric cancer cell proliferation through cell cycle arrest and cell cycle regulatory proteins. Chronic neutrophilic leukemia is a very rare myeloproliferative disorder which is characterized by severe sustained mature neutrophilic leukocytosis in peripheral blood (PB), hepatosplenomegaly, elevated leukocyte alkaline phosphatase, serum uric acid. serun viatmin B 12 and the bleeding tendency despite normal platelet count and coagulation time, absence of philadelphia chromosome, and the absence of fever or underlying infection or disease sufficient to mimic a leukemoid reaction. We have experienced a 34-years-old male patient with atypical chronic neutrophilic leukemia. On admission, the leukocyte count was 56,860/uL. severe neutrophic leukocytosis with 76% neutrophils and rare immature forms on PB smear. Many neutrophils had toxic granules, and vacuoloes. Leukocyte alkaline phosphatase score was decreased. The cytogenetic study showed Philadelphia chromosome negative with normal karyotype.

Recently, researcher who combine surveying instruments used by only each peculiar function in existing is gone abuzz. It can be said that following studies are examples : Airbone-GPS combined GPS(Global Positioning System) with photogrammetry, combination of IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) with Airbone-GPS, satellite image with GPS and GPS with echo sounder. Specially, practical application degree about combination with ineria sensor is rising very specially among them. The purpose of this study is to grasp IMU's initialization characteristic We achieved experiments about three initialization form for this. Through the experiment, in the case of roll angle, It was seen that the trend is stabilized after descent while it rises greatly an in the case of pitch angle, trend that is stabilized immediately was confirmed about 3 initialization form, however there was difference in initialization time that IMU's initialization process is stabilized.

Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm is modification of Viterbi algorithm to deliver not only the decoded codewords but also a posteriori probability for each bit. This paper presents SOVA decoder which can be used for component decoder of turbo decoder. We used two-step SMU architectures combined with systolic array traceback methods to reduce the complexity of the design. We followed the specification of CDMA2000 system for SOVA decoder design.

Scheduling for shipbuilding processes has many alternative solutions since it has long time horizon and handles many jobs. In this paper, an shipbuilding scheduling system for outfitting and painting is presented based on constraint satisfaction techniques(CST). We provide a field based model and an efficient solution methodology by using ILOG Scheduler and Solver. ILOG Solver support extensive optimization goals easily. We do verify the improvement and efficiency of the schedule generated by the scheduling system presented in this paper.
