We fabricated pure-phase BiFeO3 (BFO) and MnFe2O4 (MFO) nanoparticles as well as their nanocomposites (BMFO), and then we studied their structures and magnetic properties. Pristine BFO nanoparticles of 93.3 nm average diameter were successfully synthesized using the sol-gel method by varying the solvent condition and the precursor amount. Pristine MFO nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 70.5 nm were synthesized using the co-precipitation method entailing the optimization of the preheating and aging steps. The fabricated MFO nanoparticles showed mostly nanospheres with few nanocubes. The nanocomposite samples of 50 % MFO and 50 % BFO were fabricated through grinding and pelletization, followed by sintering under an inert atmosphere. The crystal structures of the pristine materials in the nanocomposites were well preserved. The magnetization values (Ms) of the BFO, MFO, and BMFO were 4.9, 52, and 33 emu/g, respectively. This latter Ms value was significantly higher than that of BFO, owing to the coexistence of Fe2+ and Fe3+ in its BFO phase and the incorporation of magnetic MFO. Two synthesis methods and material properties including the structural, morphological, magnetic, and oxidation states of the BFO-MFO nanocomposites were studied in order to achieve a high Ms value of 33 emu/g, which is higher than the bulk values of previously reported BFOMFO composite samples.

PURPOSE: Aquatic training assists in reducing the risk of exercise on joints among children. This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of aquatic training for children from the perspective of body composition. METHODS: A meta-analysis was performed to determine the potential impact of aquatic training in children. Four databases, namely Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and EBSCO, were used for the systematic search from September 2010 to November 2021. The mean differences in the data were analyzed using Stata 15.1 software with a 95% confidence interval. Outcome measures included weight, body mass index (BMI), fat percentage (Fat%), and waist circumference. RESULTS: Eleven studies, comprising eight randomized controlled trials (RCT) and three non-RCT studies, evaluating the effect of aquatic training on children were analyzed and reported. Aquatic training significantly improved the BMI (p<.01) and Fat% (p<.01) in children (ES (95% CI)=-0.23 (-0.38, -0.08) and ES (95% CI)=-0.27 (-0.45, -0.08). However, aquatic training had no significant effect on weight (p=.41), ES (95% CI)=-0.07 (-0.25, 0.10), and waist circumference (p=.11) in children, ES (95% CI)=-0.33 (- 0.74, 0.08). CONCLUSIONS: Aquatic training can improve children’s BMI and body fat% but not their weight, waist circumference, and muscle mass. Aquatic training may be a potential exercise program for improving body composition in children.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the chemical and biological properties of fast-set white mineral trioxide aggregate (FS WMTA), which was WMTA combined with calcium chloride dihydrate (CaCl2·2H2O), compared to that of WMTA. Materials and Methods: Surface morphology, elemental, and phase analysis were examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The cytotoxicity and cell attachment properties were evaluated on human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (HPLFs) using methyl-thiazol-diphenyltetrazolium (MTT) assay and under SEM after 24 and 72 hours, respectively. Results: Results showed that the addition of CaCl2·2H2O to WMTA affected the surface morphology and chemical composition. Although FS WMTA exhibited a non-cytotoxic profile, the cell viability values of this combination were lesser than WMTA, and the difference was significant in 7 out of 10 concentrations at the 2 time intervals (p < 0.05). HPLFs adhered over the surface of WMTA and at the interface, after 24 hours of incubation. After 72 hours, there were increased numbers of HPLFs with prominent cytoplasmic processes. Similar findings were observed with FS WMTA, but the cells were not as confluent as with WMTA. Conclusions: The addition of CaCl2·2H2O to WMTA affected its chemical properties. The favorable biological profile of FS WMTA towards HPLFs may have a potential impact on its clinical application for repair of perforation defects.

Preferences of Malaysian Cancer Patients in Communication of Bad News

Background: Breaking bad news to cancer patients is a delicate and challenging task for most doctors. Better understanding of patients' preferences in breaking bad news can guide doctors in performing this task. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the preferences of Malaysian cancer patients regarding the communication of bad news. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in the Oncology clinic of a tertiary teaching hospital. Two hundred adult cancer patients were recruited via purposive quota sampling. They were required to complete the Malay language version of the Measure of Patients' Preferences (MPP-BM) with minimal researcher assistance. Their responses were analysed using descriptive statistics. Association between demographic characteristics and domain scores were tested using non-parametric statistical tests. Results: Nine items were rated by the patients as essential: "Doctor is honest about the severity of my condition", "Doctor describing my treatment options in detail", "Doctor telling me best treatment options", Doctor letting me know all of the different treatment options", "Doctor being up to date on research on my type of cancer", "Doctor telling me news directly", "Being given detailed info about results of medical tests", "Being told in person", and "Having doctor offer hope about my condition". All these items had median scores of 5/5 (IQR:4-5). The median scores for the three domains were: "Content and Facilitation" 74/85, "Emotional Support" 23/30 and "Structural and Informational Support" 31/40. Ethnicity was found to be significantly associated with scores for "Content and Facilitation" and "Emotional Support". Educational status was significantly associated with scores for "Structural and Informational Support". Conclusion: Malaysian cancer patients appreciate the ability of the doctor to provide adequate information using good communication skills during the process of breaking bad news. Provision of emotional support, structural support and informational support were also highly appreciated.
