Baik, Keun Sik,Seong, Chi Nam,Moon, Eun Young,Park, Yoon-Dong,Yi, Hana,Chun, Jongsik Society for General Microbiology 2006 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.56 No.9
<P>A non-motile, rod-shaped and pinkish-red-pigmented bacterium, designated strain WPCB131(T), was isolated from freshwater of Woopo wetland, Republic of Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing indicated that this isolate represents a novel member of the genus Hymenobacter with sequence similarities of 93.2-95.5 % to known Hymenobacter species. No other taxa in the phylum Bacteroidetes showed more than 90 % sequence similarity to the isolate. Cells were Gram-negative, oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. Optimum growth was observed at pH 6 and 30 degrees C. The major fatty acids were iso-C(15 : 0) (34.8 %), C(16 : 1)omega5c (15.0 %), anteiso-C(17 : 1) B/iso-C(17 : 1) I (14.4 %) and C(16 : 1)omega7c/iso-C(15 : 0) 2-OH (13.8 %). The DNA G+C content of strain WPCB131(T) was 65 mol%. The isolate could be readily distinguished from other Hymenobacter species using a combination of phenotypic characters. On the basis of the polyphasic evidence presented in this study, it is proposed that strain WPCB131(T) (=IMSNU 14116(T)=KCTC 12533(T)=NBRC 101118(T)) represents a novel species, Hymenobacter rigui sp. nov.</P>

<P>A marine bacterial strain, designated FR1050T, was isolated from a sediment sample of getbol (Korean tidal flat). Phylogenetic investigations based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that the isolate formed a robust monophyletic clade with <I>Hahella chejuensis</I> within the <I>γ</I>-<I>Proteobacteria</I>. Sequence similarity between strain FR1050T and the type strain of <I>Hahella chejuensis</I> was 94·7 %. Cells were Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, motile and halophilic; optimum growth occurred at sea salt concentrations of 4-6 %. The major fatty acids were C18 : 1<I>ω</I>9<I>c</I> (39·0 %) and C16 : 0 (18·1 %). The DNA G+C content was 44 mol%. The polyphasic data obtained showed that strain FR1050T is affiliated to the genus <I>Hahella</I> but represents a novel species for which the name <I>Hahella ganghwensis</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is FR1050T (=KCTC 12277T=JCM 12486T).</P>

Baik, Keun Sik,Park, Seong Chan,Choe, Han Na,Kim, Se Na,Moon, Jae-Hak,Seong, Chi Nam Microbiology Society 2012 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.62 No.12
<P>A non-motile, coccobacillus-shaped and pink pigmented bacterium, designated strain 03SU10-PT, was isolated from wetland freshwater (Woopo wetland, Republic of Korea). Cells were Gram reaction-negative and catalase- and oxidase-positive. The major fatty acids (>10 % of total) were C18 : 1ω7<I>c</I> and summed feature 3 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1ω7<I>c</I>). The predominant respiratory lipoquinone was Q-10. The DNA G+C content was 68 mol%. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine and an unknown aminolipid. Spermidine, putrescine and 1,3-diaminopropane were the major polyamines. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons showed that strain 03SU10-PT formed an evolutionary lineage within the radiation enclosing the members of the genus <I>Roseomonas</I>. The nearest neighbour to the novel strain was <I>Roseomonas stagni</I> HS-69T (96.3 % gene sequence similarity). The evidence provided by the polyphasic taxonomic approach used in this study indicated that strain 03SU10-PT could not be assigned to any recognized species; therefore a novel species is proposed, <I>Roseomonas riguiloci</I> sp. nov., with 03SU10-PT ( = KCTC 23339T = JCM 17520T) as the type strain.</P>

Baik, Keun Sik,Park, Yoon-Dong,Seong, Chi Nam,Kim, Eun Mi,Bae, Kyung Sook,Chun, Jongsik Society for General Microbiology 2006 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.56 No.9
<P>A marine bacterial strain, FR1064(T), was isolated from a surface seawater sample collected off Jeju Island, South Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that the isolate belonged to the Gammaproteobacteria and was related to the genus Glaciecola with 97.6 % sequence similarity to Glaciecola pallidula, its nearest phylogenetic neighbour. DNA-DNA relatedness between strain FR1064(T) and G. pallidula ACAM 615(T) was 55 %. Cells of the novel isolate were Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped, motile and halophilic, with an optimum sea salts concentration of 4-7 %. The major fatty acids were straight-chain saturated (C(16 : 0)), summed feature 3 and monounsaturated fatty acid C(18 : 1). The DNA G+C content was 44 mol%. Several phenotypic characteristics differentiated the novel isolate from all previously described members of the genus Glaciecola. The polyphasic data obtained in this study clearly demonstrate that strain FR1064(T) represents a novel species of the genus Glaciecola. The name Glaciecola nitratireducens sp. nov. is therefore proposed, with strain FR1064(T) (=KCTC 12276(T)=JCM 12485(T)) as the type strain.</P>
