Advance algorithm for two-dimensional fibrous-network generation

Kayali Yagiz,Gleadall Andrew,Silberschmidt Vadim V.,Demirci Emrah 한국CDE학회 2023 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.10 No.4

Fibrous networks are abundant in nature and commonly used in industry. However, their geometrical modelling is challenging due to their complex microstructure. In this study, a novel method, called fibre placement method (FPM), is developed. In contrast to the existing methods, the FPM has various advantages, such as a fully parametric definition of structure. Also, this method is superior in mimicking the stochastic microstructure of fibrous networks compared with other schemes. Various fibrous networks can be generated easily by employing a user-friendly graphical user interface. Also, the generated fibrous networks are compatible with analysis software such as computer-aided engineering tools. Finally, this algorithm characterizes various features of networks including uniformity, void area fraction, and average curliness.

Corrosion and Wear Behaviors of Boronized AISI 316L Stainless Steel

        Yusuf Kayali,Aysel Büyüksagis,Yllmaz Yalçin 대한금속·재료학회 2013 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.19 No.5

In this study, the effects of a boronizing treatment on the corrosion and wear behaviors of AISI 316L austenitic stainless steel (AISI 316L) were examined. The corrosion behavior of the boronized samples was studied via electrochemical methods in a simulation body fluid (SBF) and the wear behavior was examined using the ball-on-disk wear method. It was observed that the boride layer that formed on the AISI 316L surface had a flat and smooth morphology. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction analyses show that the boride layer contained FeB, Fe2B, CrB, Cr2B, NiB, and Ni2B phases. Boride layer thickness increased with an increasing boronizing temperature and time. The boronizing treatment also increased the surface hardness of the AISI 316L. Although there was no positive effect of the coating on the corrosion resistance in the SBF medium. Furthermore, a decrease in the friction coefficient was recorded for the boronized AISI 316L. As the boronizing temperature increased, the wear rate decreased in both dry and wet mediums. As a result, the boronizing treatment contributed positively to the wear resistance by increasing the surface hardness and by decreasing the friction coefficient of the AISI 316L.

Lateral Locked Plating or Dual Plating: A Comparison of Two Methods in Simple Bicondylar Tibial Plateau Fractures

        Caner Citak,Cemil Kayali,Firat Ozan,Taskin Altay,Huseyin Gokhan Karahan,Kamil Yamak 대한정형외과학회 2019 Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery Vol.11 No.2

Background: In this study, our aim was to compare the results of the dual locking plate fixation technique and lateral locking plate fixation technique for tibial bicondylar plateau fractures without posteromedial fragment. Methods: We evaluated 20 patients who underwent surgical treatment due to bicondylar tibial plateau fracture between 2010 and 2015. Ten patients were included in group 1, in which a dual locking plate was employed, whereas 10 patients were included in group 2, in which a lateral locking plate was used. In both groups, functional and clinical outcomes after treatment were rated according to the Knee Society Knee Scoring System, Rasmussen functional score, and Rasmussen radiological score. Results: The mean follow-up time was 24 months. There were no significant differences between the groups with respect to functional and radiographic outcomes at the final follow-up. Conclusions: In bicondylar tibial plateau fractures without posteromedial fragment, the lateral locking plate fixation technique showed the similar clinical and radiological outcomes as the dual locking plate fixation technique.

Pituitary Volumes Are Reduced in Patients with Somatization Disorder

        Hanefi Yildirim,Murad Atmaca,Burcu Sirlier,Alperen Kayali 대한신경정신의학회 2012 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.9 No.3

Objective-Despite of the suggested physiological relationship between somatoform disorder and disturbances in HPA axis function no volumetric study of pituitary volumes in somatization disorder has been carried out. Therefore, we aimed to use structural MRI to evaluate the pituitary volumes of the patients with somatization disorder. Methods-Eighteen female patients with somatization disorder according to DSM-IV and same number of healthy controls were included into the study. All subjects were scanned using a 1.5-T General Electric (GE; Milwaukee, USA) scanner. Pituitary volume measurements were determined by using manuallly tracings according to standard antomical atlases. Results-It was found significantly smaller pituitary volumes of the whole group of somatization patients compared to healthy (t=-3.604, p=0.001). ANCOVA predicting pituitary volumes demonstrated a significant main effect of diagnostic group (F=13.530, p<0.001) but TBV (F=1.924, p>0.05) or age (F=1.159, p>0.05). It was determined that there was no significant correlation between smaller pituitary volumes and the duration of illness (r=0.16, p>0.05) in the patient group. Conclusion-In conclusion, we suggest that the patients with somatization disorder might have significantly smaller pituitary volumes compared to healthy control subjects.

Characterization of Thermally Oxidized Ti6Al7Nb Alloy for Biological Applications

        Huseyin Cimenoglu,Onur Meydanoglu,Murat Baydogan,Hakan Bermek,Pinar Huner,E. Sabri Kayali 대한금속·재료학회 2011 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.17 No.5

Wear and biological performances of a thermally oxidized Ti6Al7Nb alloy were investigated. Thermal oxidation (TO) performed at 600 °C for 60 h in air formed a 0.6 μm thick and relatively rough (having an average surface roughness of 1.1 μm) oxide layer (OL) on the surface. The OL was identified as the rutile form of TiO_2 and there was an oxygen diffusion zone (ODZ) with an average thickness of 5 μm just beneath it. The applied TO process resulted in more than ten-fold increase in wear resistance in a simulated body fluid (SBF) solution. Additionally, the biological performance was also enhanced as revealed by SBF immersion and cell culture tests.

Examination of protective and therapeutic effects of ruscogenin on cerulein-induced experimental acute pancreatitis in rats

        Gulcin Ercan,Rumeysa İlbar Tartar,Ali Solmaz,Osman Bilgin Gulcicek,Onur Olgac Karagulle,Serhat Meric,Huseyin Cayoren,Ramazan Kusaslan,Ahu Kemik,Damla Gokceoglu Kayali,Sule Cetinel,Atilla Celik 대한외과학회 2019 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.97 No.6

Purpose: To determine the potential protective and therapeutic effects and action mechanism of ruscogenin on ceruleininduced acute pancreatitis (AP) model in rats. Methods: Overall, 32 rats were attenuated to the sham (2-mL/kg/day isotonic solution for 4 weeks), control (20-μg/kg cerulein-induced AP for 12 hours), prophylaxis groups (cerulein-induced AP following 3-mL/kg/day ruscogenin for 4 weeks) and treatment (3-mL/kg/day ruscogenin following cerulein-induced AP for 12 hours). Blood samples were collected for biochemical analysis of nitric oxide synthase 1 (NOS1/neuronal NOS), malondialdehyde (MDA) and intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1). After sacrification, pancreas tissues were collected and prepared for light microscopic (hematoxylin and eosin), immunohistochemical (nuclear factor kappa B) and biochemical analysis (tumor necrosis factor-alpha [TNF-α], interleukin-6 and 1β [IL-6 and IL-1β], CRP, high-sensitivity CRP [hs-CRP] amylase, lipase, and ICAM-1). Ultrastructural analysis was performed by transmission electron microscopy. Results: The protective and therapeutic actions of ruscogenin were accomplished by improvements in histopathology, by decreasing blood cytokine levels of CRP, hs-CRP levels, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, ICAM-1, by reducing the pancreatic enzymes amylase and lipase in blood, and by suppressing the expression of nuclear factor kappa B, ICAM-1, and NOS-1, but not MDA in pancreatic tissues. Ruscogenin also improved cerulein-induced ultrastructural degenerations in endocrine and exocrine cells, especially in treatment group. Conclusion: The present findings have demonstrated the beneficial protective and therapeutical effects of ruscogenin, nominating it as a highly promising supplementary agent to be considered in the treatment of AP, and even as a protective agent against the damages induced by disease
