FINITE GROUPS WHOSE INTERSECTION GRAPHS ARE PLANAR

Kayacan, Selcuk,Yaraneri, Ergun Korean Mathematical Society 2015 대한수학회지 Vol.52 No.1

The intersection graph of a group G is an undirected graph without loops and multiple edges defined as follows: the vertex set is the set of all proper non-trivial subgroups of G, and there is an edge between two distinct vertices H and K if and only if $H{\cap}K{\neq}1$ where 1 denotes the trivial subgroup of G. In this paper we characterize all finite groups whose intersection graphs are planar. Our methods are elementary. Among the graphs similar to the intersection graphs, we may count the subgroup lattice and the subgroup graph of a group, each of whose planarity was already considered before in [2, 10, 11, 12].

The Effects of Some Machine Parameters on the Spirality in Single Jersey Fabrics

Ceken, Fatma,Kayacan, Ozlem The Korean Fiber Society 2007 Fibers and polymers Vol.8 No.1

In this work, the effects of machine parameters on the fabric spirality, which is an important quality problem of single jersey knitted fabrics, are investigated. For this aim, two circular knitting machines with the same gauge, but one of them revolving in the reverse direction, are chosen. Single jersey fabric samples with the same weight per square meter and the same yarn count(Ne 20 Cotton) are knitted on the chosen machines at four different numbers of knitting systems. The effects of the number of the knitting systems and the rotation directions of the machines on the spirality angles are investigated.

Resistance to Macrolide, Lincosamide and Streptogramin Antibiotics in Staphylococci Isolated in Istanbul, Turkey

Aktas, Zerrin,Aridogan, Aslihan,Kayacan, Cigdem Bal,Aydin, Derya The Microbiological Society of Korea 2007 The journal of microbiology Vol.45 No.4

The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence and genetic mechanisms of erythromycin resistance in staphylococci. A total of 102 erythromycin resistant non-duplicate clinical isolates of staphylococci [78. coagulase negative stapylococci (CNS), 24 Staphylococcus aureus] were collected between October 2003 and August 2004 in Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in Turkey. The majority of the isolates were from blood and urine specimens. Antimicrobial susceptibilities were determined by the agar dilution procedure and the resistance phenotypes by the double disk induction test. A multiplex PCR was performed, using primers specific for erm(A), erm(B), erm(C), and msrA genes.. Among the 78 CNS isolates, 57.8% expressed the $MLS_{B}-constitutive$, 20.6% the $MLS_{B}-inducible$, and 21.6% the $MS_B$ phenotypes. By PCR, 78.2% of these isolates harbored the erm(C) gene, 8.9% erm(A), 6.4% erm(B), and 11.5% msrA genes. In S. aureus, the constitutive $MLS_B$ (58.3 %) was more common than the inducible phenotype (20.8%). erm(A) was detected in 50% and erm(C) in 62.5% of the isolates, while 37.5% contained both erm(A) and erm(C). erm(C)-associated macrolide resistance was the most prevalent in CNS, while ermC) and erm(A, C) was the most prevalent in S. aureus.

Multilocus sequence typing of L. bulgaricus and S. thermophilus strains from Turkish traditional yoghurts and characterisation of their techno-functional roles

        Hilal Dikmen,Hamza Goktas,Fatmanur Demirbas,Selma Kayacan,Humeyra Ispirli,Muhammet Arici,Mustafa Turker,Osman Sagdic,Enes Dertli 한국식품과학회 2024 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.33 No.3

In this study, Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus strains from traditional Turkish yoghurts were isolated, identified by 16S rRNA sequencing and genotypically 14 S. thermophilus and 6 L. bulgaricus strains were obtained as distinct strains by MLST analysis. Lactic acid production levels of the L. bulgaricus strains were higher than S. thermophilus strains. HPLC analysis showed that EPS monosaccharide composition of the strains mainly consisted of glucose and galactose. In general, all strains were found to be susceptible for antibiotics, except some strains were resistance to gentamicin and kanamycin. Apart from two strains of S. thermophilus, all strains displayed strong auto-aggregation level greater than 95% at 24 h incubation. S. thermophilus strains showed higher cell surface hydrophobicity than L. bulgaricus strains. This study demonstrated the isolation, identification, genotypic discrimination and techno-functional features of wild type yoghurt starter cultures which can potentially find place in industrial applications.
