Holographic dual of de Sitter universe with AdS bubbles
Kanno, S.,Sasaki, M.,Soda, J. North Holland 2012 Nuclear Physics, Section B Vol.855 No.2
We study the proposal that a de Sitter (dS) universe with an Anti-de Sitter (AdS) bubble can be replaced by a dS universe with a boundary CFT. To explore this duality, we consider incident gravitons coming from the dS universe through the bubble wall into the AdS bubble in the original picture. In the dual picture, this process has to be identified with the absorption of gravitons by CFT matter. We have obtained a general formula for the absorption probability in general d+1 spacetime dimensions. The result shows the different behavior depending on whether spacetime dimensions are even or odd. We find that the absorption process of gravitons from the dS universe by CFT matter is controlled by localized gravitons (massive bound state modes in the Kaluza-Klein decomposition) in the dS universe. The absorption probability is determined by the effective degrees of freedom of the CFT matter and the effective gravitational coupling constant which encodes information of localized gravitons. We speculate that the dual of (d+1)-dimensional dS universe with an AdS bubble is also dual to a d-dimensional dS universe with CFT matter.
Ellipsoidal bounds for static response of framed structures against interactive uncertainties
Kanno, Yoshihiro,Takewaki, Izuru Techno-Press 2008 Interaction and multiscale mechanics Vol.1 No.1
This paper presents an optimization-based method for computing a minimal bounding ellipsoid that contains the set of static responses of an uncertain braced frame. Based on a non-stochastic modeling of uncertainty, we assume that the parameters both of brace stiffnesses and external forces are uncertain but bounded. A brace member represents the sum of the stiffness of the actual brace and the contributions of some non-structural elements, and hence we assume that the axial stiffness of each brace is uncertain. By using the $\mathcal{S}$-lemma, we formulate a semidefinite programming (SDP) problem which provides an outer approximation of the minimal bounding ellipsoid. The minimum bounding ellipsoids are computed for a braced frame under several uncertain circumstances.
Experimental study on oscillating flow steam engine in a single micro tube
Kanno, Hiroshi,Han, Youngbae,Shikazono, Naoki Elsevier 2017 Experimental thermal and fluid science Vol.81 No.-

Abstract

Oscillating flow steam engine can be a cost-effective solution for recovering work from waste heat due to its structural simplicity. In the present study, the effects of design parameters and operating conditions of oscillating flow steam engine such as tube diameter, heating section temperature, cooling section length ratio and compression ratio are experimentally investigated. The pressure variation due to boiling and condensation induces a continuous oscillating flow in a single micro tube, which can generate work using crank-piston system. The indicated work and cycle efficiency both increase as the heating section temperature and compression ratio are increased. The investigated oscillating flow steam engine achieved indicated work of 1W with the cycle efficiency of η =5% at T heat =230°C and T cool =80°C in a D =1.0mm tube.

Highlights

Oscillating flow steam engine is investigated for waste heat recovery.

Experimental setup for oscillating flow steam engine in a single micro tube is made.

Effects of several parameters on heat engine are investigated experimentally.

Current heat engine achieved 1W work and 5% efficiency between 230°C and 80°C.

In a pHRI, physical contact between humans and robots may happen occasionally or on purpose. Extensive efforts have been made to develop safety measures reducing human injury and improving human safety. Contact sensor is a fundamental requirement for those robots to sense the contact with humans and to take appropriate safety measures. In this paper, we propose a safety confirmation type wide-range detectable contact sensor that detects an ultrasonic wave propagating through a viscoelastic tube. The proposed sensor generates ultrasonic waves from a transmitter installed at the end of a long and slender viscoelastic tube, and detects the waves as safety monitoring signals by a receiver located at the other end. For all cases where safety monitoring signals is not detected, such as an abnormal state of ultrasonic wave and sensor elements failure, it does not transmit safety. An estimation equation related to the propagating sound pressure and time of an ultrasonic wave in the silicon tube was derived through experimental investigation on the propagation characteristics in a straight and a curved tube. It was confirmed that a safety monitoring signal was successively generated in an arbitrary curved tube by setting an appropriate safety threshold which was calculated using the estimation equation.

Background/Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety of sedation with propofol as an alternative to benzodiazepinedrugs in outpatient endoscopy. Methods: In this prospective study, examinees who underwent outpatient endoscopy under propofol sedation and submitted a nextdayquestionnaire with providing informed consent were evaluated. Periprocedural acute responses, late adverse events within 24hours, and examinee satisfaction were evaluated. Results: Among the 4,122 patients who received propofol in the 17,978 outpatient-based endoscopic examinations performedbetween November 2016 and March 2018, 2,305 eligible examinees (esophagogastroduodenoscopy for 1,340, endoscopicultrasonography for 945, and total colonoscopy for 20) were enrolled, and their responses to a questionnaire were analyzed. Themean propofol dose was 69.6±24.4 mg (range, 20–200 mg). Diazepam, midazolam, and/or pentazocine in combination withpropofol was administered to 146 examinees. Mild oxygen desaturation was observed in 59 examinees (2.6%); and mild bradycardia,in 2 (0.09%). Other severe reactions or late events did not occur. After eliminating 181 invalid responses, 97.7% (2,065/2,124) of thepatients desired propofol sedation in future examinations. Conclusions: Propofol sedation was found to be safe-without severe adverse events or accidents-for outpatient endoscopy on thebasis of the patients’ next-day self-evaluation. Given the high satisfaction level, propofol sedation might be an ideal tool for painlessendoscopic screening.

Compositional dependence of crystallographic structure of the epitaxial Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) lms was investigated. The c-axis oriented PZT lms with Zr/Ti ratio ranging from 10/90 to 70/30 were epitaxially grown on (100)Pt/(100)MgO substrates using rf-sputtering. Four-circle x-ray diraction measurements revealed that the PZT lms exhibited anomalous crystalline structure which was considerably dierent from the phase diagram of bulk PZT. In particular, the PZT lms showed tetragonal structure even with the Zr/Ti composition above 53/47 and rhombohedral phase could not be identied even for the PZT lms of 70/30. The lattice constants of the PZT lms were independent of the lm thickness. The sputtering process accompanies non-thermal equilibrium reactions with the bombardment of the energetic sputtered particles to the growing lms and might induce isotropic internal stress across the lms. The anomalous crystalline characteristics are attributed to the sputter-induced stress of the PZT lms.
