Kagan Kircaburun,Sabah Balta,Emrah Emirtekin,Ş,ule Betü,l Tosuntaş,,Zsolt Demetrovics,Mark D. Griffiths 대한신경정신의학회 2021 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.18 No.4
Objective Accumulating empirical research has emphasized that a wide range of online activities–such as using social networking sites–can be performed in order to compensate unattained needs or to cope with negative affect and psychopathological symptoms. Al-though the correlates of problematic social networking use have been extensively investigated, less is known about problematic YouTube use (PYU), an umbrella term grouping a number of different activities (e.g., viewing of online video games, watching specific YouTube channels). Furthermore, nothing is known concerning increasingly popular and distinct YouTube-related activities such as mukbang watching (i.e., watching livestream “eating broadcasts” where someone eats various foods in front of the camera while interacting with viewers). The aim of the present study was to examine the mediating role of problematic mukbang watching (PMW) on the relation-ships between depression and loneliness with PYU. Methods An online survey that comprised assessment tools for aforementioned variables was administered to 217 mukbang viewers (mean age=20.58 years, range 18–33 years). Results Results indicated that PMW was positively related to loneliness and PYU. Depression was positively and directly associated with PYU but was not associated with PMW. Conclusion Further research is required to better understand the psychological processes underlying problematic mukbang watching and its association with other mental health conditions (e.g., addictive disorders, eating disorders). Kagan Karabulut,G. Selcuk Ozbalci,Tugrul Kesicioglu,Ismail Alper Tarim,Gokhan Lap,Ayfer Kamali Polat,Ilhan Karabıcak,Kenan Erzurumlu 대한외과학회 2014 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.87 No.2
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term outcome of the intraoperative and perioperative albendazole (ALB) treatment on the recurrence and/or secondary hydatidosis. Methods: One hundred and one patients with hepatic hydatidosis were treated intraoperatively and perioperatively with ALB, in addition to surgery. Perioperative ALB treatment was given in a dose of 12?15 mg/kg/day. The ALB treatment was started 13.27 ± 14.34 days before the surgery, and it was continued for 4.39 ± 3.11 months postoperatively. A total of 1.7 mg/mL of ALB solution was used as a protoscolidal agent. The follow-up period was 134.55 ± 51.56 months. Results: Four patients died, with only one death was secondary to hydatid disease (cerebral eccinococcus). There was only one recurrence (1%) of hepatic hydatidosis. Early and late morbidity rates were 8.91% and 7.92%, respectively. Conclusion: Our results suggest that intraoperative and perioperative ALB is effective for the prevention of hepatic hydatidosis recurrence and/or secondary hydatidosis.
Magnetocaloric properties in a FeNiGaMnSi high entropy alloy
Kagan Sarlar,Atakan Tekgül,Ilker Kucuk 한국물리학회 2020 Current Applied Physics Vol.20 No.1
We investigated a new Fe26.7Ni26.7Ga15.6Mn20Si11 high entropy alloy (HEA) without the rare earth element. The structural, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of the resulting materials are presented. The HEAs successfully is produced by the arc melting with suction casting method. The crystal structures are characterised through multiphase Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction data. The structure of the HEAs was found to be the body centred cubic (bcc). In the magnetic measurements, the ferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition was obtained in the range of 300–400 K. With the employed suction casting method; the Fe26.7Ni26.7Ga15.6Mn20Si11 HEA shows the best magnetocaloric properties as 1.59 Jkg−1K−1 maximum magnetic entropy change (0–2 T) and 75.68 Jkg-1 refrigeration capacity after the annealing process.
Supplement Use and Behaviours of Elite Singaporean Athletes
Kagan J. Ducker,Parimala Sivaperuman,Deborah A. Kerr,Richard Swinbourne 아시아스포츠융합과학회 2023 Asia Pacific Journal of Applied Sport Sciences Vol.4 No.3
PURPOSE We aimed to evaluate the use and behaviours surrounding nutritional and sports supplements amongst Singaporean elite athletes. METHOD We conducted a cross-sectional online survey of elite Singaporean athletes to assess their supplement use. RESULT Of the 112 athletes that completed the survey, 88 (79%) reported supplement use in the previous 12 months (mean±SD=4.2±4.4, range=0–22). Sports drinks (54%) and bars (40%), fish oil (27%), and vitamin C (27%) were most frequently consumed. Supplements were most commonly used to enhance recovery (75%), and to improve training performance (61%) and energy (53%). Athletes that didn’t use supplements did so because a healthy diet makes them unnecessary (38%), due to concerns about doping (33%), they aren’t needed to improve performance (29%), or they had not had access (29%). Supplements were most commonly sourced from the supermarket (39%), directly from institute staff (35%) and health food shops (32%). Institute sports nutrition staff and the Anti-Doping Singapore (ADS) website were most influential in deciding whether to use supplements, but institute strength and conditioning staff and their coach were also influential. 18% of athletes self-reported having no knowledge about supplements, however 43-56% knew key information (e.g., main ingredients, what they do to their body, optimal dose and timing). Athletes self-reported that their knowledge of guidelines (e.g., ADS, World Anti-Doping Agency, institute, national sporting organisation) regarding supplement use was limited to good. CONCLUSION This is the first study to report supplement use and behaviours in Singaporean athletes since 2003 and remains the only South-East Asian country to have their supplement use evaluated. We found that supplement usage in Singaporean athletes was high, but typical internationally. Additionally, use remained relatively constant since 2003, despite the number of supplements used per person increasing.
An Approach for System Identification in Unmanned Surface Vehicles
Izzet Kagan Erunsal,Kenan Ahiska,Murat Kumru,Mehmet Kemal Leblebicioglu 제어로봇시스템학회 2017 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2017 No.10
In this study, a system identification methodology is introduced to determine the model parameters of unmanned surface vehicles. The proposed identification scheme is based on sequencing the experiments according to their capabilities to identify the model parameters. In each experiment, the parameters to be found are updated and the results are validated before ascertaining the final value. A procedure to complete the identification work in an experiment, namely the required post-processing, the optimization routines, the cost function evaluations are defined and discussed. The final parameter set is validated in random motion tests with rich motion content. It has been observed that the proposed method elicits a parameter identification with remarkable success.
Revisiting Diversity: Appreciating Humanity and Personhood in the Nurse-Patient Relationship
Sarah H. Kagan 한국간호과학회 2018 한국간호과학회 학술대회 Vol.2018 No.1
Diversity is a word often read, heard, and used in nursing and healthcare. Differences and diverse background, lifeways, and perspectives are essential to understanding our shared humanity and the essence of personhood in nursing. Despite the inclusiveness belied by the intention with which we use the word diversity, most approaches to understanding diversity rest on cultural competence. In this keynote address, I explore inherent associations between and among diversity, humanity, and personhood. I then critique the framework of cultural competence for emphasizing the cognitive and factual and diminishing the aesthetic and relational in understanding, respecting, and embracing difference as a fundamental dimension of being human. Using our ageing world as context, I compare and contrast the domains that mandate competence with those – including diversity – which require intrapersonal reflection and interpersonal dexterity. I end our time together with a reflection on the importance of cultivation of the self and professional comportment to reify diversity in nursing.
