Comparison of the median and intermediate approaches to the ultrasound-guided sacral erector spinae plane block: a cadaveric and radiologic study

        Keleş Bilge Olgun,Salman Necati,Yılmaz Elvan Tekir,Birinci Habip Resul,Apan Alparslan,İnce Selami,Özyaşar Ali Faruk,Uz Aysun 대한마취통증의학회 2024 Korean Journal of Anesthesiology Vol.77 No.1

Background: Erector spinae plane block (ESPB) is a well-established method for managing postoperative and chronic pain. ESPB applications for the sacral area procedures are called sacral ESPBs (SESPBs). This cadaveric study aimed to determine the distribution of local anesthesia using the median and intermediate approaches to the SESPB.Methods: Four cadavers were categorized into the median and intermediate approach groups. Ultrasound-guided SESPBs were performed using a mixture of radiopaque agents and dye. Following confirmation of the solution distribution through computed tomography (CT), the cadavers were dissected to observe the solution distribution. Results: CT images of the median group demonstrated subcutaneous pooling of the radiopaque solution between the S1 and S5 horizontal planes. Radiopaque solution also passed from the sacral foramina to the anterior sacrum via the spinal nerves between S2 and S5. In the intermediate group, the solution distribution was observed along the bilateral erector spinae muscle between the L2 and S3 horizontal planes; no anterior transition was detected. Dissection in the median group revealed blue solution distribution in subcutaneous tissue between horizontal planes S1 and S5, but no distribution in superficial fascia or muscle. In the intermediate group, red solution was detected in the erector spinae muscle between the L2 and S3 intervertebral levels. Conclusions: Radiologic and anatomic findings revealed the presence of radiopaque dye in the superficial and erector spinae compartments in both the median and intermediate groups. However, anterior transition of the radiopaque dye was detected only in the median group.

Comparative study on crown closure estimations using two different remote sensing data: Landsat ETM + and IKONOS

Sedat KELEŞ,Alkan GÜNLÜ,Emin Zeki BAŞKENT 한국산림과학회 2012 Forest Science And Technology Vol.8 No.4

In this paper, we developed empirical relationships between crown closure and Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and IKONOS spectral response in a forest ecosystem in Turkey. The linear relationships between the crown closure and satellite images were examined and for that the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was generated for correlation analysis. Satellite images were georeferenced with respect to corresponding forest stand type maps for the same area. The digital numbers (DNs) in all bands were positively correlated with the crown closure in Landsat-7ETM image. Regarding the Landsat ETM+, the DN of NIR band (band 4) had the highest correlation coefficient value with the crown closure (r=0.715), and the DN of blue band (band 1) had the lowest correlation value with the crown closure (r=0.373) and explains 51.1% and 13.9% of data variability, respectively, in Landsat-7 ETM image. In IKONOS image, the DNs in three bands (red, green and NIR) were positively correlated with the crown closure at the level of r=0.385, r=0.359 and r=0.829, respectively. The NIR band of the Landsat-7-ETMþimage showed the highest correlation with the NDVI (r=0.886) and the red band had the lowest correlation with the NDVI (r=0.419),while the IKONOS image showed that the NIR band had the highest correlation with the NDVI (r=0.781) and the green band resulted in the lowest correlation with the NDVI (r=0.367). Results also indicated that the relationships between the crown closure and the NDVIs of Landsat-7 ETM and IKONOS were positively correlated with r=0.794and r=0.871, respectively.

        Elif Keleş Gülnerman,Nurcan Hanedan,Merve Akillioglu,Gülsüm Kayhan,Esra Adişen,Özlem Erdem,İbrahim Murat Hirfanoğlu,Ebru Ergenekon,Eray Esra Önal,Canan Türkyilmaz,Esin Koç 대한피부과학회 2023 Annals of Dermatology Vol.35 No.-

Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) is a group of diseases presenting as col- lodion baby at birth. ARCI is categorized as Harlequin ichthyosis, lamellar ichthyosis, and non-bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma (NBCIE), bathing suit icthyosis (BSI) and others. We describe the case of a male newborn with NBCIE whose whole exome se- quencing revealed two variants of TGM1 gene (NM_000359.3) in a compound heterozygous state: c.790C>T (p.Arg264Trp) in exon 5 and c.2060G>A (p.Arg687His) in exon 13. In the literature, the Arg264Trp variant has been reported as homozygous or compound heterozy- gous with other variants in patients with BSI. In contrast, the Arg687His variant has been reported only as homozygous in patients with BSI. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case whose two compound heterozygous variants, exhibiting the NBCIE phenotype, instead of the BSI.

Fault Diagnosis of Bevel Gears Using Neural Pattern Recognition and MLP Neural Network Algorithms

Cemal Keleşoğlu,Haluk Küçük,Mustafa Demetgül 한국정밀공학회 2020 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.21 No.5

Gear mechanisms are key components for rotating machinery ranging from automotive, hydraulic systems to aviation systems. As a more reliable, safer, economical fault diagnostic method, vibration and acoustic signatures of such systems havebeen widely studied. There are only a few numbers of studies incorporating sound and vibration monitoring together, fordiff erent working hours of the mechanism, rotating at diff erent operational parameters. A bevel gear test setup was developedin-house to observe the eff ect of diff erent operating conditions as shaft loading, shaft speed, lubrication level and abrasivecontamination along with diff erent operating hours. The system operating condition was also monitored, by obtaining visualphotographs of gear teeth. Vibration and sound signals were recorded followed by fast Fourier Transform and Power SpectrumDensity computations to extract the features used in developing a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) based Neural Networkand a Neural Pattern Recognition algorithm for fault classifi cation purposes. It has been shown that sound and vibrationmeasurements can be confi dently used to predict bevel gear fault conditions.

Magneto-rheological engine mount design and experimental characterization

Tamer Türkücü,Ömer Keleş 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.11

Isolation mounts using magneto-rheological (MR) fluid have increasing potential for various applications. This paper introduces new design and manufacturing aspects of MR engine mounts. CAD software was used to design MR mounts and three different types of MR mount prototypes were considered. Later, magnetostatic analyses were performed to validate the designed configuration of the electromagnetic coil, which controlled the MR fluid flow. The MR mounts were manufactured and, then, tested statically and dynamically using a servo-hydraulic rate machine. Static tests were performed with amplitudes between 0-10 mm. Dynamic tests were performed under excitation frequencies in between 0-100 Hz with amplitudes of ±0.1 mm, ±0.5 mm, ±1.0 mm and ±2.0 mm as well as under excitation frequencies in between 0-20 Hz with amplitudes of ±3.0 mm, ±4.0 mm. Besides the MR mounts, hydro mount and elastomeric top were tested adopting the same procedure. The finding of different mount properties was explained and MR mount characteristics in frequency domain were demonstrated. In addition, the measured characteristics were compared with each other for hydraulic mount and elastomeric top.

3D micro-CT analysis of void formations and push-out bonding strength of resin cements used for fiber post cementation

İsmail Hakkı Uzun,Meral Arslan Malkoç,Ali Keleş,Ayşe Tuba Öğreten 대한치과보철학회 2016 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.8 No.2

PURPOSE To investigate the void parameters within the resin cements used for fiber post cementation by micro-CT (µCT) and regional push-out bonding strength. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-one, single and round shaped roots were enlarged with a low-speed drill following by endodontic treatment. The roots were divided into three groups (n=7) and fiber posts were cemented with Maxcem Elite, Multilink N and Superbond C&B resin cements. Specimens were scanned using µCT scanner at resolution of 13.7 µm. The number, area, and volume of voids between dentin and post were evaluated. A method of analysis based on the post segmentation was used, and coronal, middle and apical thirds considered separately. After the µCT analysis, roots were embedded in epoxy resin and sectioned into 2 mm thick slices (63 sections in total). Push-out testing was performed with universal testing device at 0.5 mm/min cross-head speed. Data were analyzed with Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney U tests (α=.05). RESULTS Overall, significant differences between the resin cements and the post level were observed in the void number, area, and volume (P<.05). Super-Bond C&B showed the most void formation (44.86 ± 22.71). Multilink N showed the least void surface (3.51 ± 2.24 mm2) and volume (0.01 ± 0.01 mm3). Regional push-out bond strength of the cements was not different (P>.05). CONCLUSION µCT proved to be a powerful non-destructive 3D analysis tool for visualizing the void parameters. Multilink N had the lowest void parameters. When efficiency of all cements was evaluated, direct relationship between the post region and push-out bonding strength was not observed.

A study on dynamic modulus of self-consolidating rubberized concrete

Mehmet Emiroğlu,Servet Yildiz,M. Halidun Keleştemur 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2015 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.15 No.5

In this study, dynamic modulus of elasticity of self-consolidating rubberized concrete is evaluated by using results of ultrasonic pulse velocity and resonance frequency tests. Additionally, correlation between dynamic modulus of elasticity and compressive strength results is compared. For evaluating the dynamic modulus of elasticity of self-consolidating rubberized concrete, prismatic specimens having 100 x 100 x 500 mm dimensions are prepared. Dynamic modulus of elasticity values obtained by non-destructive measurements techniques are well agreed with those given in the literature.

Long-term Effects of Uncomplicated Traumatic Hyphema on Corneal and Lenticular Clarity

Ali Keles(Ali Keles ),Pinar Kosekahya(Pinar Kosekahya ),Furkan Emre Sogut(Furkan Emre Sogut ),Mustafa Salih Karatepe(Mustafa Salih Karatepe ) 대한안과학회 2022 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.36 No.6

Purpose: To evaluate the long-term effects of uncomplicated traumatic hyphema on endothelial morphology, anterior segment structure, and corneal and lenticular densitometry Methods: In this retrospective comparative study, eyes with a history of uncomplicated traumatic hyphema were compared with the healthy contralateral unaffected eyes. The corneal endothelial cell properties were captured using specular microscopy. Anterior segment analysis, corneal densitometry (12-mm corneal diameter), and lens densitometry measurements were performed using the Pentacam imaging system. Results: Measurements were obtained at a mean follow-up of 49.5 ± 15.8 months after injury. The average endothelial cell density was significantly lower in the study group than in the control group (2,506.6 ± 294.0 cells/mm² vs. 2,665.7 ± 195.0 cells/mm², p = 0.020). There was no difference between the groups in respect of polymegathism and pleomorphism (p = 0.061 and p = 0.558, respectively). All the investigated corneal tomographic and angle parameters were similar in both groups (all p > 0.05). The corneal densitometry values in all concentric zones and layers showed no statistically significant difference between the groups (p > 0.05 for all). The lens zone 1 densitometry value was significantly higher in the study group than in the control group (9.6% ± 1.1% vs. 8.9% ± 1.2%, p = 0.031). No difference was observed in zone 2 and 3 (p = 0.170 and p = 0.322, respectively). The degree of hyphema was not correlated with endothelial cell and lenticular clarity loss (p = 0.087 and p = 0.294, respectively). Conclusions: Even if traumatic hyphema is not complicated, long-term outcomes indicate endothelial cell loss and increased lenticular density.

Growth rate, carcass characteristics and meat quality of growing lambs fed buckwheat or maize silage

Keles, Gurhan,Kocaman, Veli,Ustundag, Ahmet Onder,Zungur, Asli,Ozdogan, Mursel Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.4

Objective: This study evaluated inclusion of buckwheat silage to the diet of growing lambs in terms of meat quality as compared to maize silage. Methods: Buckwheat, rich in total phenols (TP, 33 g/kg dry matter [DM]), was harvested at the end of the milk stage and ensiled in 40 kg plastic bags after wilting (294 g/kg silage DM). A total of 18 growing lambs ($21.6{\pm}1.2$) were individually fed isonitrogenous and isoenergetic total mixed rations (TMR) for 75 d that either contained buckwheat or maize silage at DM proportions of 0.50. At the end of feeding trail all lambs were slaughtered to assess carcass characteristics and meat quality. Results: Buckwheat silage increased (p<0.01) the DM intake of lambs as compared to maize silage, but had no effects (p>0.05) on live weight gain and feed efficiency. Carcass weight, dressing percentage, meat pH, water holding capacity, cooking loss, shear force ($kg/cm^2$), and total viable bacteria count of meat did not differ (p>0.05) between the treatments. However, TP content of meat increased (p<0.001) by feeding buckwheat TMR. Feeding buckwheat TMR also decreased (p<0.05) the b* values of meat. Conclusion: The results provide that buckwheat silage is palatable and could successfully include TMR of growing lambs with no adverse effects on performance, carcass and meat quality. Additionally, feeding buckwheat silage to lambs offers increased TP in meat.
