Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) has kept the largest amount of gene-expression microarray data that have grown exponentially. Microarray data in GEO have been generated in many different formats and often lack standardized annotation and documentation. It is hard to know if preprocessing has been applied to a dataset or not and in what way. Standard-based integration of heterogeneous data formats and metadata is necessary for comprehensive data query, analysis and mining. We attempted to integrate the heterogeneous microarray data in GEO based on Minimum Information About a Microarray Experiment (MIAME) standard. We unified the data fields of GEO Data table and mapped the attributes of GEO metadata into MIAME elements. We also discriminated non-preprocessed raw datasets from others and processed ones by using a two-step classification method. Most of the procedures were developed as semi-automated algorithms with some degree of text mining techniques. We localized 2,967 Platforms, 4,867 Series and 103,590 Samples with covering 279 organisms, integrated them into a standard-based relational schema and developed a comprehensive query interface to extract. Our tool, GEOQuest is available at http://www.snubi.org/software/GEOQuest/.

Many cases of strategically designed groundwater remediation have lack of information of hydraulic conductivity or permeability, which can render remediation methods inefficient. Many studies have been carried out to minimize this shortcoming by determining detailed hydraulic information either through direct or indirect measurements. One popular method for hydraulic characterization is the pilot point method (PPM), where the hydraulic property is estimated at a small number of strategically selected points using secondary measurements such as hydraulic head or tracer concentration. This paper adopted a D-optimality based pilot point method (DBM) developed previously for hydraulic head measurements and extended it to include both hydraulic head and tracer measurements. Based on different combinations of trials, our analysis showed that DBM performs well when hydraulic head is used for pilot point selection and both hydraulic head and tracer measurements are used for determining the conductivity values.
A MMSE Vector Precoding with Block Diagonalization for Multiuser MIMO Downlink
Jungyong Park,Byungju Lee,Byonghyo Shim IEEE 2012 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS Vol.60 No.2

Block diagonalization (BD) algorithm is a generalization of the channel inversion that converts multiuser multi-input multi-output (MIMO) broadcast channel into single-user MIMO channel without inter-user interference. In this paper, we combine the BD technique with a minimum mean square error vector precoding (MMSE-VP) for achieving further gain in performance with minimal computational overhead. Two key ingredients to make our approach effective are the QR decomposition based block diagonalization and joint optimization of transmitter and receiver parameters in the MMSE sense. In fact, by optimizing precoded signal vector and perturbation vector in the transmitter and receiver jointly, we pursue an optimal balance between the residual interference mitigation and the noise enhancement suppression. From the sum rate analysis as well as the bit error rate simulations (both uncoded and coded cases) in realistic multiuser MIMO downlink, we show that the proposed BD-MVP brings substantial performance gain over existing multiuser MIMO algorithms.

A Temporal Diversity using Vector Perturbation
Jungyong Park(박정용),Byonghyo Shim(심병효) 한국방송·미디어공학회 2010 한국방송공학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.7
In this paper, we propose a temporal diversity scheme based on the vector perturbation for a multiuser multipleinput multiple-output (MIMO) broadcasting system. Our method is inspired by the fact that precoding process of the vector perturbation designed to suppress the multiuser interference causes a reduction of the transmitted signal power. In order to boost up the transmit power, we employ a non-integer based vector perturbation together with temporal transmit diversity. We show from the simulation on 10×10 multiuser MIMO system that the proposed method outperforms the epetition coded vector perturbation scheme as well as the standard vector perturbation.
