      • Characterization of OsJAC1 which is responding to different types of ionizing radiation

        Ionizing radiation affects gene expression from plant genomes. To monitor the genome-wide transcriptional changes induced by three types of ionizing radiation, we used the rice RNA sequencing to identify genes that are up- or down-regulated by gamma rays (GAs), proton (PRs) and ion beams (IBs). The Oryza sativa jacalin-like lectin domain containing proteins (OsJAC1) gene was highly induced by GAs, PRs and IBs. OsJAC1 was selected based on the expression patterns of a genome-wide dataset of RNA sequencing. Many jacalin-related lectin genes have been shown to be associated with disease resistance, biotic and abiotic stress signaling. Therefore, we studied its expression pattern in response to different abiotic stress and phytohormone treatments. The expression patterns of OsJAC1 under two different abiotic stress conditions (salt and heat stress) and phytohormones (salicylic acid and methyl jasmonate) were examined. The transcripts of OsJAC1 were significantly induced in response to abiotic stress conditions, including salt and heat treatments. In addition, it was induced in response to the salicylic acid and methyl jasmonate treatments, respectively. To investigate the sub-cellular localization of OsJAC1, the gene was expressed as a fusion protein tagged with GFP, in tobacco leaf epidermis and examined under confocal microscope. The OsJAC1 was clearly localized at the nucleus. These results provide critical insights into the molecular functions of the rice jacalin-like lectin domain containing proteins as receptors of external signals.

        This paper presents the photovoltaic(PV) water pumping system with a maximum power point tracking(MPPT). The water pumping system uses a variable speed single phase induction motor(SPIM) driven a centrifugal pump by field oriented control(FOC) inverter. The MPPT using a DC-DC converter controlled the duty cycle to track maximum power from PV under different insolation conditions. The duty cycle directly relate with a flux producing current control(i<SUB>ds</SUB>). The FOC inverter uses a current control voltage source inverter(CC-VSI). The simulation results are shown that the characteristics and performance of drive system, which varies as each conditions of light by expresses in voltage(V<SUB>dq</SUB>), current(I<SUB>dq</SUB>), speed of motor and torque.

        This paper is proposed the vector control of 3-phase induction motor drive system by photovoltaic generation. For performance of vector control using a current control voltage source inverter(CC-VSI). CC-VSI is controlled by torque and flux producing component of motor current, relating with current and and voltage value of photovoltaic arrays at maximum power point that varies follow different level of insolation. The MPPT using a DC-DC converter controlled the duty cycle to track maximum power from PV under different insolation conditions. The simulation results are shown that the characteristics and performance of drive system, which varies as each conditions of light by expresses in voltage(V<SUB>dq</SUB>), current(I<SUB>dq</SUB>), speed of motor and torque.

        A Synthetic Naringenin Derivative, 5-Hydroxy-7,4′-diacetyloxyflavanone-<i>N</i>-phenyl Hydrazone (N101-43), Induces Apoptosis through Up-regulation of Fas/FasL Expression and Inhibition of PI3K/Akt Signaling Pathways in Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Cells

        <P>Naringenin, a well-known naturally occurring flavonone, demonstrates cytotoxicity in a variety of human cancer cell lines; its inhibitory effects on tumor growth have spurred interest in its therapeutic application. In this study, naringenin was derivatized to produce more effective small-molecule inhibitors of cancer cell proliferation, and the anticancer effects of its derivative, 5-hydroxy-7,4′-diacetyloxyflavanone-<I>N</I>-phenyl hydrazone (N101-43), in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines NCI-H460, A549, and NCI-H1299 were investigated. Naringenin itself possesses no cytotoxicity against lung cancer cells. In contrast, N101-43 inhibits proliferation of both NCI-H460 and A549 cell lines; this capacity is lost in p53-lacking NCI-H1299 cells. N101-43 induces apoptosis via sub-G<SUB>1</SUB> cell-cycle arrest in NCI-H460 and via G<SUB>0</SUB>/G<SUB>1</SUB> arrest in A549 cells. Expression of apoptosis and cell-cycle regulatory factors is altered: Cyclins A and D1 and phospho-pRb are down-regulated, but expression of CDK inhibitors such as p21, p27, and p53 is enhanced by N101-43 treatment; N101-43 also increases expression levels of the extrinsic death receptor Fas and its binding partner FasL. Furthermore, N101-43 treatment diminishes levels of cell survival factors such as PI3K and p-Akt dose-dependently, and N101-43 additionally induces cleavage of the pro-apoptotic factors caspase-3, caspase-8, and poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP). Cumulatively, these investigations show that the naringenin derivative N101-43 induces apoptosis via up-regulation of Fas/FasL expression, activation of caspase cascades, and inhibition of PI3K/Akt survival signaling pathways in NCI-H460 and A549 cells. In conclusion, these data indicate that N101-43 may have potential as an anticancer agent in NSCLC.</P>

        Inkjet‐Printable Nanoporous Ag Disk Arrays Enabling Coffee‐Ring Effect‐Driven Analyte Enrichment Towards Practical SERS Applications

        To make surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors more practical, we propose nanoporous Ag disks as SERSactive plasmonic structures that can be readily inkjet-printed just before use to avoid degradation of SERS enhancement. Together with the aid of the enhanced plasmonic fi elds from the nanoporous Ag (confirmed by electromagnetic simulation), we utilize a coffee-ring effect to concentrate target analytes, which is demonstrated by confocal Raman measurements. By using the proposed SERS sensor, Raman signals of TiO 2 nanoparticles with a concentration of ppm to sub-ppb have been successfully measured. TiO 2 in commercial consumables has been also detected by distinguishing its crystalline phase.

        Clinical Manifestations and Treatment Outcomes of Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis in Children

        Purpose: The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinical features and outcome of eosinophilic gastro-enteritis (EGE) in children.Methods: Our study enrolled 24 children who were diagnosed with EGE from 1993 to 2014 at the Department of Pediatrics, Seoul National University Children’s Hospital. The patients’ clinical manifestations, treatments, and out-comes were reviewed from the medical records.Results: The mean age at diagnosis was 5.3 years. Most patients had gastrointestinal symptoms including diarrhea (54.2%) and abdominal pain (45.8%). Peripheral eosinophilia was present in 91.7% of the patients. Thirteen patients (54.2%) showed anemia, and 15 patients (62.5%) had hypoalbuminemia. EGE was classified as mucosal, sub-serosal, or muscular in 75.0%, 20.8%, and 4.2% of cases, respectively. Three patients showed gastroduodenal ulcers upon endoscopic analysis. A history of allergy was reported in 13 patients, including atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and asthma. Five patients (20.8%) improved with food restrictions. Among the 19 patients treated with steroids, 11 (57.9%) discontinued steroid treatment without subsequent relapse, 4 (21.1%) relapsed after ceasing steroid treat-ment, and 4 (21.1%) showed no response to steroids. Two patients who were resistant to steroids underwent ther-apeutic surgery. The presence of gastroduodenal ulcers was significantly associated with relapse and steroid resistance.Conclusion: A high suspicion of EGE is warranted when children have nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms and peripheral eosinophilia. Most patients improved with food restrictions or steroid treatment, although one-third of pa-tients showed a relapse or steroid resistance.

        유효세율과 기업특성의 변화

        본 연구는 지난 26년 동안 유효세율의 추세를 분석하였다. 본 연구는 기간경과에 따른 유효세율의 추세를 분석하기 위하여 1991년부터 2016년까지의 기간 동안 6,312 기업-연도표본을 조사하였다. 본 연구는 또한 국외원천소득이 있는 기업의 국내 및 국외원천 유효세율을 분석하였다. 분석결과는 유효세율이 유의하게 감소하였다는 것을 보여주고 있다. 유효세율의 감소는 다국적기업에만 집중되지 않았으며, 다국적기업과 내국기업 모두 대략 유사한 비율로 감소하였다. 다국적기업의 경우 국외원천 유효세율과 국내원천 유효세율 모두 감소하였다. 마지막으로, 기업특성의 변화는 유효세율의 전반적인 감소의 일부만을 설명하고 있다. 추가분석의 결과는 기업특성을 통제한 후에도 유효세율이 유의적으로 감소하였다는 분석결과를 발견하였다. 본 연구는 유효세율의 기간추세를 분석함으로써 조세회피 연구에 공헌한다. 또한, 본 연구는 유효세율의 결정요인 연구에 공한할 것이다. In this paper, we investigate the trend in corporate effective tax rates over the past 26 years. To investigate the existence of a trend in effective tax rates over time, we examine a sample of 6,312 firm-year from 1991 to 2016. We study the trend in effective tax rates. We also examine domestic and foreign effective tax rates, which we use to test domestic versus foreign rates for corporations that have income from foreign sources(multinational firms). The results show that the effective tax rates have decreased significantly.The decline in effective tax rates is not concentrated in multinational firms, effective tax rates have declined at approximately the similar rate for both multinational and domestic firms. Within multinational firms, both foreign and domestic effective tax rates have decreased. Finally, changes in firm characteristics explain little of the overall decrease in effective tax rates. The Result of additional analysis suggests, that even after controlling for firm characteristics, we continue to see a significant decrease in effective tax rates over time. This paper contributes to the literature by executing an examination of time trends in corporate effective tax rates. And, this study is important for researchers interested in studying the determinants of effective tax rates.

        신경망을 이용한 동적 제조공정의 탐지 및 인식

        This research is focused on developing a methodology for detecting the time of model change in the pocess and on designing a procedure for identifying the change based on neuro-modeling. The proposed detection procedure uses a fixed series of one-step prediction errors, which are obtained from a pre-determined neural network model. The model identification procedure is based on neuro-modeling. Kohonen's Self-Organizing Map (SOM) neural network and Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network are used for modeling of a dynamic manufacturing process which is considered as a quasi-stationary time series. The proposed SOM and RBF neural networks attempt to decompose a picewise stationary series into a set of stationary segments and predict each sub-series thereby. Three different approaches are compared for model identification: the first approach is based on the feedforward network with the back-propagation error rule; the second one is based on the Bayesian discriminant function for minimizing the average probability of error; and the third one is based on the minimum distance measure for mininuzing the Euclidean distance between the input feature vector and feature vectors of the each sub-models. The proposed approaches are verified throught simulations. The performance of the proposed approaches are efficient and the suggested methods can readily employed for real manufacturing applications.

        2,4-bis (p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butenal (HPB242) induces apoptosis via modulating E7 expression and inhibition of PI3K/Akt pathway in SiHa human cervical cancer cells.

        <P>The Maillard reaction is a chemical reaction occurring between an amino acid and a reducing sugar, usually requiring thermal processing. Maillard reaction products (MRPs) have antioxidant, antimutagenic, and antibacterial effects, and although 2,4-bis (p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butenal (HPB242), a fructose-tyrosine MRP, appears to inhibit proliferation of cancer cells, its mechanism of action has not been studied in detail. We found that HPB242 treatment modulated expression of cyclins and tumor suppressor genes in SiHa human cervical cancer cell lines: cyclins and phospho-pRB were downregulated, whereas the expression of CDK inhibitors and p53 was enhanced. HPB242 induced apoptosis dose-dependently by suppressing E7 expression and leading to sub-G1 cell-cycle arrest in SiHa cell lines; treatment also led to the proteolytic cleavage of caspase-3, -9, and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase. Moreover, HPB242 upregulated Fas expression, altered expressions of pro- and antiapoptotic factors, and also inhibited nuclear translocation of nuclear factor κB and phosphorylation of IκB. HPB242 treatment decreased phosphatidyl inositol-3 kinase and p-Akt expression levels, demonstrating that this survival pathway may also be inhibited by HPB242. Cumulatively, HPB242 promotes apoptosis by influencing E7 expression, inducing cell-cycle arrest at sub-G1 phase, and promoting both intrinsic (mitochondrial) and extrinsic (Fas-dependent) apoptosis in SiHa human cervical cancer cells.</P>

        We have studied Al_xFe_(3-x)O₄ produced by direct composition method using X-ray diffraction and Mssbauer spectroscopy. The cation distribution for Al_xFe_(3-x)O₄ was determined by the ratio of sub-spectra absorption area. The charge state of Fe atoms in octahedral site(B-site) is Fe^(2.5+) based on electron hopping, Fe²+ ↔ (Fe³+, Al³+) without dependency of substituted Al amounts.
