Transient and synchronization behaviors of a standing-wave TA (Thermoacoustic) laser pair

The transient and synchronization behaviors of a TA (thermoacoustic) laser pair were investigated experimentally for various crossing angles and different separation distances between the laser openings. Sound waves generated by the lasers were measured and analyzed at or near the focusing point by means of microphones, SPL meters, and a commercial software called Signal-Express. The two TA lasers were acoustically coupled through the air mass between their openings, and the only mode-locking operation that could be achieved was the one that was nearly 180° out of phase. The time to achieve synchronization was found to be dependent upon the initial mistuning of the frequencies and the crossing angle between the laser axes. The synchronization process could also be accelerated by turning on the laser with the lower power input first.
Chlorophyll-Related Compounds Inhibit Cell Adhesion and Inflammation in Human Aortic Cells

The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of chlorophyll-related compounds (CRCs) and chlorophyll (Chl) a + b on inflammation in human aortic endothelial cells. Adhesion molecule expression and interleukin (IL)-8, nuclear factor (NF)-jB p65 protein, and NF-jB and activator protein (AP)-1 DNA binding were assessed. The effects of CRCs on inflammatory signaling pathways of signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3) and mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4, respectively induced by IL-6 and transforming growth factor (TGF)-b, in human aortic smooth muscle cells cultured in vitro were also investigated. HAECs were pretreated with 10 lM of CRCs, Chl a + b, and aspirin (Asp) for 18 h followed by tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a (2 ng/mL) for 6 h, and U937 cell adhesion was determined. TNF-a–induced monocyte-endothelial cell adhesion was significantly inhibited by CRCs. Moreover, CRCs and Chl a + b significantly attenuated vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, and IL-8 expressions. Treatments also significantly decreased in NF-jB expression, DNA binding, and AP-1 DNA binding by CRCs and Asp. Thus, CRCs exert anti-inflammatory effects through modulation of NF-jB and AP-1 signaling. Ten micromoles of CRCs and Asp upregulated the expression of mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4 (Drosophila) (SMAD4) in the TGF-b receptor signaling pathway, and SMAD3/4 transcription activity was also increased. Ten micromoles of CRCs were able to potently inhibit STAT3-binding activity by repressing IL-6–induced STAT3 expression. Our results provide a potential mechanism that explains the anti-inflammatory activities of these CRCs.
천추부 척수수막 낭종(신경주위 낭종) : 1례 보고 A Case Report

We experienced a rare case of sacral meningeal cyst so called sacral perineurial cyst(Tarlov cyst). A 15 years old girl was admitted to the hospital because of sudden severe low back pain and Lt. sciatica for about one week. We performed delayed myelography and spinal computeized tomographic myelography(C.T.M) for different diagnosis. Delayed filling of contrast media in the cyst was significant in diagnosis of sacral meningeal cyst type Ⅱ. Laminectomy of sacrum(S₁) was performed for partial excision of cystic wall and plastic suture. Operative finding was typical sacral perineurial cyst(Trarlov cyst) which was recently clssified as sacral meningeal cyst type Ⅱ. The classification of spinal meningeal cysts in the literature was indistinct and confused. We also agree with Nabors et. al, in current classification of spinal meningeal cysts, in which the spinal meningeal cysts, in which the spinal meningeal cysts were divided into 3 groups as extradural spinal Mcs TypeⅠ(Diverticulum), Type Ⅱ(perineurial cyst), intradural spinal Mcs(arachnoid cyst).
일 종합병원에서 정신분열병과 분열정동장애를 진단받은 환자에서 항정신병약물의 1차 선택약물의 비율 및 1년 유지율에 관한 연구

Objectives: This study was designed to evaluate prescription rate and indirectly the tolerability of antiosychotics using the maintenance rate for 1 year. The study was done in a situation where the patients who were diagnosed with either schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder were given the antipsychotics and were looked into the prescription rate and the state of use of drugs at first regardless of kind of drugs. Methods: This was a retrospective, naturalistic study using the data from medical record conducted in both inpatients and outpatients from January 1st in 2002 and June 30th in 2004 with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition. Patients were evaluated at 3, 6, 9, and 12th months after the onset of medication for the first-drug prescription rate and maintenance rate. Results: In total, 105 patients were recruited, and 40 out of 105 were male and 65 out of 105 were female. The mean age was 34.71 years old. The number of patients with schizophrenia was 94 and that of schizoaffective disorder was 11. For the prescription rate of first drugs, of total risperidone was 56.2% ; likely, 25.7% for olanzapine ; 10.5% for haloperidol ; 4.8% for quetiapine ; and 2.9% for chlorpromazine. For 1-year maintenance rate, of total, haloperidol was 45.5% ; 33.3% for chlorpromazine ; 22.0% for risperidone ; 14.8% for olanzapine ; and 20.0% for quetiapine. Conclusion: Overall, atypical antipsychotics were far more prescribed than typical ones(86.7% and 13.3% for atypical and typical anti psychotics respectively). Although atypical antipsychotics were more prescribed than typical ones, the one-year maintenance rate was not higher than typical anti psychotics unlike our expectation that atypical antipsychotics would have better compliance and higher maintenance rate for 1 year under the circumstances with uncontrolled naturalistic conditions. There should be more statistical data available with larger sample size in the future.

최근 마케팅 환경은 이미 전통적인 오프라인 시장에서 인터넷 중심의 온라인 시장으로 급격하게 변화하고 있으며, 이에 따라 온라인 시장에서의 기업 간 경쟁도 점차 심화되고 있다. 다양한 온라인 기업들이 경쟁하고 있지만 특히 소비자들을 직접 상대해야 하는 온라인 소매상인 인터넷 쇼핑 기업들의 경쟁은 매우 심한 편이다. 사이트 간 이동이 자유로운 온라인상에서 소비자들의 로열티를 구축하는 것은 어려운 일이며, 실제적으로 온라인 소매상에 대한 소비자 로열티는 취약한 실정이다. 또한 개인 정보 유출 등 인터넷 쇼핑 기업에 대한 소비자들의 우려는 이들 기업들이 보다 사회적으로 큰 책임감을 가질 것을 요구하고 있다. 이런 변화를 이해하기 위하여 본 연구는 온라인 쇼핑 기업의 사회적 책임에 관한 실증적 연구를 진행하였다. 즉 이들 기업의 사회적 책임을 다하기 위한 제 활동들이 기업의 직접적 성과인 재구매 의도에 미치는 영향을 연구하고자 하였다. 연구 결과를 통하여 온라인 쇼핑 기업의 사회적 책임 활동이 브랜드 이미지와 기업 이미지에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 브랜드 이미지와 기업 이미지는 재구매 의도에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다. The modern society has entered into online economy and related online market is booming while power of traditional offline market is diminishing rapidly. Also competition among online corporation is becoming fierce today and consumer loyalty also constantly diminished. Also as a way of differentiation, online shopping sites' social responsibility is bocoming more important. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the corporate social responsibility(CSR) on brand image and repurchase intentions of online shopping site. This paper applies the concept of corporate social responsibility(CSR) to the online shopping context. The results show that corporate social responsibility(CSR) positively influences on brand image and the corporate image. Furthermore, both brand image and corporate image influence on repurchase intentions. Thus, online shopping sites should consider the corporate social responsibility(CSR) factors such as economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic responsibility to build strong brand attitude and increase consumers’ repurchase intentions.

One hundred and eight patients received operation for acute subdural hematoma were evaluated in prognostic factors. They were admitted to the Neurosurgical Department in S.R.C.H. during the 3 years from January, 1986 to December, 1988. The results were as follows ; 1) The patients were consist of 85 male patients and 23 female patients with the sex ratio 3.7:1. 2) Evaluated prognostic factors were age and sex, preoperative Glasgow coma scale (GCS), preoperative pathological physical findings, time interval from injury to operation, type of injury, midline shift, location of hematoma, thickness of hematoma, and operative procedure. 3) On the statistical analysis, factors of GCS and midline shift were considerable significant factors. 4) In the overall results of 108 patients, 47 patients(43.5%) had good recovery, 9 patients(8.3%) had moderate disabled state, 2 patients(1.9%) were severe disabled state, 4 patients(3.7%) were vegetative state, and 46 patients(42.6%) died.

In the present study, impedance characteristics for AgO-Zn cell at various State-of-Charge (SoC) has been studied. The impedance measurements of AgO-Zn cell at various SoC were made over the frequency range from 100kHz to 10mHz with an amplitude 5mV. The impedance parameters have been evaluated by the analysis of the data using an equivalent circuit and a Non-linear least squares (NLLS) fitting method. The total resistances reflects the SoC of the cell. This indicates that the total resistance is important parameter for predicting SoC of AgO-Zn cell.
