      • <i>Rnf220</i> cooperates with <i>Zc4h2</i> to specify spinal progenitor domains

        <P>During early embryonic development of the spinal cord, graded sonic hedgehog signaling establishes distinct ventral progenitor domains by regulating the spatiotemporal expression of fate-specifying transcription factors. However, regulation of their protein stability remains incompletely understood. Here, we show that RNF220, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, plays crucial roles in the generation of the ventral progenitor domains, which produce ventral intemeurons and motor neurons, by targeting key transcription factors including Dbx1/2 and Nkx2.2 for degradation. Surprisingly, RNF220 interacts with, and is co-expressed with, a zinc-finger protein ZC4H2, and they cooperate to degrade Dbx1/2 and Nkx2.2. RNF220-null mice show widespread alterations of ventral progenitor domains, including the loss of the p2 domain that produces V2 intemeurons. Knockdown of RNF220 and ZC4H2 in the chick spinal cord downregulates expression of the V2 interneuronal marker Chx10. Co-expression of RNF220 and ZC4H2 further promotes the ability of Nkx6.1 to induce ectopic Chx10(+)V2 interneurons. Our results uncover a novel regulatory pathway in establishing distinct progenitor domains through modulating the protein stability of transcription factors. Our results provide insights into the molecular mechanism by which ZC4H2 mutations lead to human syndromes characterized by delayed motor development.</P>

        현대사회는 TV나 인터넷 등 대중매체의 노출과 스마트 폰 보급으로 급성장한 SNS 등을 통해 이미지에 대한 지각이 신체관련 소비행동에까지 영향을 미치고 있으며 그로 인해 본인이 가지고 있는 콤플렉스에 대한 개선을 원하는 심미 증례 환자의 수요 역시 증가하고 있습니다. 심미적인 치료를 희망하는 환자군은 일반진료를 받는 환자군에 비해 더욱 적극적인 성향을 보이며, 이미지 개선에 대한 기대와 함께 기능적인 문제, 결과에 대한 만족도 등의 두려움을 가지고 있습니다. 심미 증례 환자의 상담에 있어서 가장 기본은 환자본인이 심미치료를 통해 개선하고 싶은 포인트가 어떤 것인지를 술자와 상담자가 정확하게 인지하는 것에서부터 출발합니다. 환자의 관점에서 시작되는 상담은 의학적인 분야의 접근을 통해 합의 즉 이상적인 것과 자연스러움의 균형점을 찾는 방식으로 진행됩니다. 초기 상담부터 각 진료단계별 상담 process를 구축하고 단계별 상담 내용을 정확하게 기재하여 술자 및 진료staff이 공유하며, 초기상담부터 Maintenance care까지 일관성 있는 정책을 운영하여 환자에게 무리한 기대를 주고 공감하지 못하는 결과로 실망을 초래하는 상담이 아닌 진정한 소통이 바탕이 되어 환자, 술자, 진료staff이 만족할 수 있는 결과를 이끄는 상담이 가능해 집니다. 심미 증례의 유형별 case를 통해 환자와의 공감을 바탕으로 한 심미 증례 환자의 효과적인 상담전략을 소개합니다. In the modern society, the awareness of images is affecting the body-related consumer behavior through mass media such as TV and internet, and SNS that has grown explosively with the wide availability of smartphones. As a consequence, the demands for aesthetic treatments by patients who wish to improve their inferiority complex are increasing. Patients who want aesthetic treatments display more active inclinations than those receiving general treatments, and have the expectation for the improvement in images along with the anxiety over potential functional problems and satisfaction about the outcomes. In the consultation of the patient of aesthetic case, the basic starting point is that the surgeon and the patient recognize improvement points that the patient expects through the aesthetic treatment. The consultation starting from the viewpoint of the patient proceeds in a way that the consensus is reached through the medical approach, eventually finding the balance between ideals and naturalness. The consultation process from the initial meeting is established at each stage of treatment, at which the consultation is correctly recorded and shared by the surgeon and the care staff. In addition, the consistent policy is implemented from the initial consultation through to the maintenance care. Together, these will result in the consultation based on the true communications leading to the outcome that satisfies the patient, the surgeon and the care staff, rather than the one that gives the patient an unfounded hope and leads to the unsympathetic outcome. This article introduces the consultation strategy for patients of aesthetic case based on the sympathy with them through cases of aesthetic treatment by type.

        Effects of Health-Related Quality of Life on Suicidal Ideation and Depression among Older Korean Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study

        Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of depression and suicidal ideation among older Korean adults and the predictors of suicidal ideation. Methods We analyzed data from 5,604 Koreans aged 65 or older collected by the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2012-2016, an annual national, cross-sectional, epidemiologic study of the Korean population. A chi-square test was used to assess differences in socio-demographic characteristics by suicidal ideation. Psychological variables, self-rated physical health, and the five dimensions of the Korean version of the EQ-5D (EuroQoL) were compared between four subgroups categorized according to the presence/absence of suicidal ideation and depression. Multiple logistic regression was used to estimate the predictive power of health-related quality of life variables, as well as physical and psychological factors regarding suicidal ideation. Results Overall, 11.5% of the sample reported suicidal ideation, and 20.0% of the suicidal ideation group were diagnosed with depression. Respondents with suicidal ideation had significantly lower levels of health-related quality of life than those without suicidal ideation. EQ-5D self-control (OR=1.42), anxiety/depression (OR=2.32), depression (OR=2.07), and self-rated physical health (OR=1.36) were found to significantly predict suicidal ideation. Conclusion Suicidal ideation without depression was prevalent among older Koreans. Self-control, anxiety/depression of EQ-5D, selfrated physical health, and depression predicted suicidal ideation. Interventions to screen older Koreans for early detection of suicide risk and prevention strategies should consider evaluating each EQ-5D dimension.

        Optimization and Evaluation of Heat-shock Condition for Spore Enumeration Being Used in Thermal-process Verification: Differential Responses of Spores and Vegetative Cells of Clostridium sporogenes to Heat Shock

        To evaluate a heat-shock condition for the enumeration of Clostridium sporogenes spores, a surrogate for C. botulinum spores, we examined the heat tolerance of C. sporogenes spores and vegetative cells exposed to a heat shock at 90^oC. From the D values of the spores determined in the temperature range of 113-121^oC, z value (±SD) and D90°C value were estimated to be 10.16±0.90^oC and 1,071.52 min, respectively, and the inactivation rates were predicted to be only approximately 2% at 90^oC for up to 10min. Meanwhile, the viable count of spores was significantly higher when activated under a heat-shock condition of 90^oC for over 9 min than those activated for shorter time periods. The heat tolerance of vegetative cells was extremely low, showing a D90°C value (±SD) of 0.21±0.01 min. Finally, 3 different heat-shock conditions were compared:70^oC for 30 min, 80^oC for 20 min, and 90^oC for 10 min,and the experimental comparative data showed no significant differences in viable spore counts. Consequently, these results support that the heat-shock treatment at 90^oC for 10min is suitable to activate spores and to inactivate vegetative cells of C. sporogenes.

        Highly antibacterial electrospun double-layer mats for preventing secondary wound damage and promoting unidirectional water conduction in wound dressings

        The efficient absorption of wound exudate and the prevention of soft tissue infection are major concernsin wound repair. Good antibacterial agents and unique wound dressing structures can effectively reducewound infection, thereby accelerating wound healing. In some double-layer asymmetric wound dressings,antimicrobial agents are incorporated in the hydrophilic layer, and only a small fraction of theantimicrobial agent penetrates the hydrophobic fibre layer towards the interior of the wound. Therefore, in this study, we chose curcumin (Cur.)/cellulose acetate (CA) as the hydrophobic inner layer. Not only does this effectively allow Cur. to make contact with the lining of the wound but it also preventsthe wound from sticking. However, the mechanical properties of a single CA/Cur. layer are not ideal. Using polyacrylonitrile as the outer hydrophilic substrate improves the fibre mat mechanical properties. In addition, to further improve the hydrophilicity, the water contact angle was reduced by introducing ahydrophilic group (2-hydroxypropyl-b-cyclodextrin, b-CD) and changing the fibre roughness (nano-TiO2). Thus, wound dressings with high biocompatibility, excellent antibacterial properties, and unidirectionalwater conduction were constructed for preventing secondary wound damage. In terms of performance, ittook 40 minutes for water to enter the hydrophilic fibre layer from the hydrophobic fibre layer (the watercontact angle decreased from 121.24 to 85.42), and it took 25 minutes for water to completely enter thefibre mats (the water contact angle decreased from 85.42-0), which is effective for draining wound exudate. In terms of antibacterial properties, the antibacterial rates of Cur. (8 wt%) against Escherichia coliand Staphylococcus aureus were 82.4% and 92.57%, respectively. The Cur./CA@PAN/b-CD/TiO2 bilayerasymmetric nanofibrous mats mimic the semipermeability of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and havehigh biocompatibility, which is effective for preventing secondary wound damage. It can be used as alow-cost, high-performance wound dressing with medical material potential.

        Multifunctional nanofiber membrane with anti-ultraviolet and thermal regulation fabricated by coaxial electrospinning

        Ultraviolet radiation is extremely harmful to humans and often occurs in high-temperature weather. Thedevelopment of intelligent textiles based on UV protection and thermal regulation is paramount. In thisresearch, we use coaxial electrospinning technology to prepare anti-ultraviolet smart thermo-regulatingnanofiber membranes. The zinc oxide (ZnO) and octadecane were incorporated into nanofibers with thepolyacrylonitrile (PAN)/ZnO as sheath and the octadecane as core successfully. The composite nanofibershave excellent comprehensive properties, the highest melting enthalpy is 111.38 J/g, and the UPF value is86.21. This multifunctional nanofiber membrane has broad prospects in outdoor products, electroniccomponent protection, and military products.

        Nanofibrous membranes with antibacterial and thermoregulatory functions fabricated by coaxial electrospinning

        Bacteria, viruses, and temperatures change can affect the preservation of food and medicines, so it is necessaryto develop an intelligent textile for antibacterial and thermal regulation. In this paper, we usedcoaxial electrospinning technology to achieve antibacterial thermo-regulating intelligent textiles. Thepolyacrylonitrile (PAN)/curcumin is the sheath, and n-octadecane is the core. The composite fiber hasexcellent comprehensive properties. When the curcumin concentration is 10 wt%, the antibacterial effectis the best, and the bacteriostatic rate is 100%. When the core feed rate is 0.25 mL/h, the latent heat canreach 123.94 J/g. The multifunctional textiles have potential application value in the clothing fabrics,preservation and storage quality of functional foods, biomedical products, and other fields.
