Background: Prolonged postoperative ileus (PPOI) is a major complication of colorectal surgery. Increased opioid consumption has been proposed to increase the risk of PPOI. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that an increased total postoperative opioid dose (TPOD) is associated with the increased incidence of PPOI.Methods: For this matched case-control study, patients who underwent elective laparoscopic colorectal procedures at the Peking University People’s Hospital between January 2018 and June 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with PPOI were assigned to the ileus group, while patients without PPOI (control group) were matched at a 1:1 ratio to the ileus group according to age, American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status score, and type of surgical procedure. The primary outcome was the TPOD between the ileus and control groups. The secondary outcome was risk factors of PPOI.Results: A total of 267 participants were included in the final analysis. No differences in baseline or operative factors were found between the two groups. The TPOD, intravenous sufentanil dose on postoperative day 1 (POD1), and the use of patient-controlled analgesia with basal infusion were associated with PPOI (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that an increased TPOD was an independent risk factor for developing PPOI after laparoscopic colorectal procedures (Odd ratio: 1.67, 95% CI [1.03, 2.71], P = 0.04).Conclusions: The TPOD is an independent risk factor for PPOI after laparoscopic colorectal surgery. We need to explore new strategies of postoperative analgesia to reduce the dosage of TPOD.

The objective of present study was to investigate the effect of cooking and their combinations with re-heating methods on the formation of cholesterol oxidation products (COPs) in stored chicken thigh meat. Pan roasting, steaming, oven grilling, charcoal grilling, and microwaving were used for cooking. Re-heating of samples was done using the same cooking methods or microwaving after 3 and 6 d of refrigerated storage. Cooking and re-heating resulted in reduction of crude fat and cholesterol contents of chicken thigh meat depending on storage period before re-heating. Cooking and storage period had no influence on the total amount of COPs. The highest total amount of COPs was observed in meat samples cooked by steaming and reheated by microwaving after 6 d of storage, which showed similar value to raw chicken meat stored for 6 days. However, different re-heating methods formed different types of COPs depending on storage period before re-heating. The high amount (p<0.05) of 25-hydroxycholesterol or α-epoxide was detected in meat samples reheated by steaming or microwaving at 3 or 6 d of storage after steamed cooking, respectively. As a result, the combination of steaming and re-heating with microwaving could increase the total amount of COPs in chicken thigh meat and different cooking/re-heating methods could form different types of COPs, even though no significant difference in the total amount of COPs depending on storage period.

Liver sausage is flavorful and highly nutritious. However, liver has a relatively short shelf life due to acceleration of oxidation in the presence of endogenous enzymes and metals. Powders derived from natural sources, including plants or fruits, are applied to meat products for inhibiting oxidation without adverse effects on their quality. Hence, this study investigated the effects of natural powders derived from green tea leaf (GTL), lotus leaf (LL), and kimchi (KC) on the quality and change in lipid oxidation and freshness of chicken liver sausages during two weeks of storage. Chicken liver sausages were manufactured with chicken breast (70%) and liver (20%), pork back fat (5%), iced water (5%), various additives, and GTL, LL, and KC [0 (control) or 1%]. They were processed in three batches. For determination of the quality characteristics of chicken liver sausages with various plant powders, pH, color, and texture properties were assessed. In addition, lipid oxidation and freshness using thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and total volatile basic nitrogen (TVBN) were analyzed at day 0 and week 2 of refrigerated storage. Higher values were obtained for pH and cooking yield in sausage samples with LL and KC powders than in samples with the other treatments. For a* values, the sausage samples with KC showed similar (p > 0.05) values, whilst others had significantly lower values than the control. The addition of the three powders to sausage samples induced an increase (p < 0.05) in hardness, gumminess, and chewiness. The addition of plant powders did not influence TBARS and TVBN of sausage samples at the initial stage. However, after two weeks of storage, significantly lower TBARS and TVBN values were observed, and the sausage with KC (p < 0.05) showed the lowest values of both TBARS and TVBN. The results showed the potential ability of the three powders to improve the quality and inhibit lipid oxidation in liver sausages. Particularly, the addition of KC did not adversely affect the a* values of sausage samples. The effects on sensory properties and inhibition mechanisms of GTL, LL, and KC in meat products should be further studied.
Space Composition and Landscape Characteristics around Village Forests in Wando-gun
Juhui Kim,Hyunmi Bae 전북대학교 휴양및경관계획연구소 2017 휴양및경관연구 (J East Asian Landscape Studies) Vol.11 No.1
The purpose of this study is to investigate the space composition and landscape structure around the village forests in five villages located on the coast of Wando-gun. The research focuses on field investigation and literature review. The results of this study are as follows In the case of village forests constructed for the protection of villages and cultivated areas in the coastal area of Wando-gun, which is the study area, it is confirmed that there are mountains behind the forests. Through the analysis of landscape elements, it was concluded that two types of layouts exist. Regarding the space composition around the village forest on the coast, it was found that there is a type A arranged in the order of sea → coast → village forest → village → cultivated land → rear mountain, and a type B arranged in the order the sea → coast → village forest → cultivated land → village → cultivated land → rear mountain. In the analysis of landscape characteristics, the elevation angle from the coast to the top of the mountain behind the village forest was measured. Accordingly, elevation angles of approximately 16°–17° in the type A arrangement and 7°–9° in type B arrangement were determined. From these results, it can be confirmed that the space composition and placement of the village forest with disaster prevention function vary according to the distance and elevation (changes in elevation angle) from the coast to the rear mountain.
Ground Vehicle Localization based on Inertial Measurement Signals

Terrain profiles can be a basis of localization even in the absence of Global Positioning System (GPS). Especially, the pitch rate signals of a ground vehicle well represent the fingerprint of the current position. In this paper, we introduce two possible methods for localization. Both methods are based on spectrograms of the signals. The first one is based on hash labels that are widely used for audio searching algorithms. The second is a normalized gray-level correlation method that considers the spectrograms as images and uses an inner product operation to compare the images.

Radionuclides stored in a radioactive waste repository over a long period of time might be leached through the barriers such as engineered rock (cement) and natural rock (granite). Organic complexing agents such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and isosaccharinic acid (ISA) may also influence the mobility of radionuclides. In this study, a continuous fixed-column reactor packed with engineered and natural rocks was designed to investigate the effect of organic complexing agents on cesium mobility through cement and granite under anaerobic conditions. The influent flow rate of the mixed solution (organic complexing agent and cesium) at the column bottom was 0.1 mL/min, while that of groundwater was 0.2 mL/min, which was introduced between cement and granite layers in the middle of the column. The hydraulic properties such as diffusion coefficient and retardation factor were derived by a bromide tracer test. The effects of different operating parameters, such as initial cesium concentrations, initial EDTA or ISA concentrations, and bed size, on the cesium adsorption were investigated. The Thomas, Adams-Bohart, and Yoon-Nelson models were applied to the experimental data to predict the breakthrough curves using non-linear regression. These results suggest that organic complexing agents such as EDTA and ISA significantly influence the mobility of cesium in the barriers, indicating that the presence of complexing agents enhances the migration of cesium to the geosphere.

Fungal exopolysaccharides are important natural products having diverse biological functions. In this study, exopolysaccharides from Fomitopsis castanea mycelia (FEPS) were prepared, and the highest mushroom tyrosinase inhibitory activity was found. FEPS were prepared from cultivation broth by ethanol precipitation method. The extraction yield and protein concentration of FEPS were 213.1 mg/l and 0.03%, respectively. FEPS inhibited mushroom tyrosinase with the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 16.5 mg/ml and dose-dependently inhibited cellular tyrosinase activity (63.9% at 50 μg/ml, and 83.3% at 100 μg/ml) in the cell-free extract of SK-MEL-5 human melanoma cell and α-melanocytestimulating hormone (α-MSH)-stimulated melanin formation in intact SK-MEL-5 human melanoma cell. The IC50 of FEPS against NO production from RAW264.7 macrophage cells was 42.8 ± 0.64 μg/ml. By in vivo study using a zebrafish model, exposure of FEPS at 400 μg/ml to dechorionated zebrafish embryos for 18 h decreased the pigment density, compared to that without FEPS-treated control.
