        Inhibitory Effects of ECQ on Indomethacin-Induced Gastric Damage in Rats

        We investigated inhibitory effects of extract containing quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucuronopyranoside (ECQ) extracted from Rumex Aquaticus Herba on indomethacin-induced gastric damage in Rats. Gastritis was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats (200∼220 g) by oral administration of indomethacin at a dose of 40 mg/kg. One hour before administration of indomethacin, animals were orally pretreated with ECQ at doses of 0.3, 1, 3 or 10 mg/kg. Six hours after indomethacin administration, the rats were sacrificed and the stomach was excised and opened along the greater curvature, and the surface area of gastric lesion was measured using optical microscope. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), myeloperoxidase (MPO) activities and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were measured by ELISA. Western blot analysis was performed to detect protein expression of SOD-2. Linear hemorrhagic mucosal lesions were observed in the stomach 6 hours after oral administration of indomethacin. Pretreatment with ECQ significantly reduced the severity of the lesions in a dose-dependent manner. It also inhibited the reductions in SOD and CAT activities and SOD expression by the indomethacin-induced gastric damage. In addition, the pretreatment with ECQ significantly suppressed the elevation of the MPO activity and the MDA levels induced by indomethacin. These results suggest that ECQ has the inhibitory effects via antioxidative action against indomethacin-induced gastritis in rats.

        A Parametric Study of Ridge-cut Explosive Bolts using Hydrocodes

        Explosive bolts are one of pyrotechnic release devices, which are highly reliable and efficient for a built-in release. Among them, ridge-cut explosive bolts which utilize shock wave generated by detonation to separate bolt body produce minimal fragments, little swelling and clean breaks. In this study, separation phenomena of ridge-cut explosive bolts or ridge-cut mechanism are computationally analyzed using Hydrocodes. To analyze separation mechanism of ridge-cut explosive bolts, fluid-structure interactions with complex material modeling are essential. For modeling of high explosives (RDX and PETN), Euler elements with Jones-Wilkins-Lee E.O.S. are utilized. For Lagrange elements of bolt body structures, shock E.O.S., Johnson-Cook strength model, and principal stress failure criteria are used. From the computational analysis of the author’s explosive bolt model, computational analysis framework is verified and perfected with tuned failure criteria. Practical design improvements are also suggested based on a parametric study. Some design parameters, such as explosive weights, ridge angle, and ridge position, are chosen that might affect the separation reliability; and analysis is carried out for several designs. The results of this study provide useful information to avoid unnecessary separation experiments related with design parameters.

        Unresponsive politics and the rise of the AfD in Germany : Focusing on the 2013 and 2017 federal elections

        본 연구의 목적은 2010년대 독일 정치에서의 응답성 부족이 우익 포퓰리즘 정당인 독일 대안당(Alternative für Deutschland)의 놀라운 성공의 근본적 배경이었음을 규명하는 데 있다. 독일의 기성 정당들은 2010년대의 가장 중요한 정치적 이슈였던 유럽 이슈와 이민/난민 이슈에서 적잖은 유권자들의 선호와 상당한 괴리를 노정했다. 특히 유럽회의주의적 유권자와 반이민/반난민 성향의 유권자는 기성 정당들에 의해 제대로 대변되지 않았는데, 이 정치적 비응답성은 유럽 통합과 이민/난민 유입에 강경한 입장을 내세운 신생 정당인 대안당의 부상을 가능케 한 기반이었다. 이 점을 규명하고자 본 연구는 독일 내에서 최대 규모의 선거 연구를 수행하는 GLES(German Longitudinal Election Study)의 설문조사 결과를 활용하여 2013년과 2017년 연방의회선거의 결과를 각각 유럽 이슈와 이민/난민 이슈를 중심으로 분석한다. 분석은 크게 두 단계로 이루어진다. 우선 2013년 유럽 이슈와 2017년 이민/난민 이슈에서 각 정당의 입장과 유권자의 정책 선호 분포를 살핀다. 이를 통해 기성 정당들과 유권자 간에 상당한 괴리가 존재했음을, 그리고 대안당만이 기성 정당들과의 정책적 차별화에 성공하여 유럽회의주의적 유권자와 반이민/반난민 성향의 유권자에게 선택 가능한 정당으로 자리매김 했음을 밝힌다. 그 다음으로 2013년과 2017년 연방의회선거에서 나타난 유권자의 투표 선택(vote choice)을 분석한다. 이는 유권자의 유럽회의주의적 성향(2013년)과 반이민/반난민 성향(2017년), 그리고 응답하지 않는 정치에 실망한 유권자들의 일반적 특성으로서 현 민주주의에 대한 불만(2013년, 2017년)이 대안당 선택에 결정적으로 작용했음을 보여준다. Using the 2013 and the 2017 post-election surveys of the German Longitudinal Election Study, this article argues that a lack of political responsiveness in Germany in the 2010s, when European and immigration/refugee issues emerged as salient, is a notable reason behind the success of the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD). First, the article examines whether there was a considerable gap between the positions of the established parties and voters’ preferences on these issues in the 2013 and 2017 federal elections. Second, the major determinants of vote choice for the AfD over the other parties are investigated. The analysis reveals that the AfD’s success is based on responding to the preferences of Eurosceptic and immigration-/refugee-unfriendly voters who were not represented by any of the established parties and were dissatisfied with the current functioning of democracy.

      • Solving the SW Industry Human Resource Paradox through Big Data: A Study on News Network Analysis

        The purpose of this study is to identify issues related to software manpower, which became more important in the era of the 4th industrial revolution, and to present directions for solving the industry"s human resource paradox. As a research method, we used quantitative text network analysis and qualitative analysis from industry experts to interpret the results. A total of 14,752 news data mentioning SW manpower were extracted, and data preprocessing for the synonyms and negative words was performed. The network is non-directional, consists of 14,074 words (nodes) and 1,542,383 word combinations (edges). In addition, the network was clustered based on modularity, and the degree of connection and eigenvector centrality were used to determine the importance of nodes. As a result of analysis, the government"s efforts through the Ministry of Science and ICT were vital in creating jobs which fueled SW innovation growth. Next, SW education was actively promoted in order to develop SW talent. This study has the following implications. It was confirmed that SW is making a high contribution to the expansion of business opportunities and job creation in the fields of new technology and SW convergence technology. To resolve the SW manpower supply-demand mismatch, it is necessary to cultivate high quality SW talent, and provide mid- to long-term activities in order to attract competent human resources. In addition, in order to strengthen national SW competitiveness, it is necessary to develop and expand programs that link education and recruitment in terms of public-private cooperation along with government-led investment.

        Timing Analysis Techniques Review for sub-30 ㎚ Circuit Designs

        With scaled technology, timing analysis of circuits becomes more and more difficult. In this paper, we review recently developed circuit simulation techniques created to deal with the cost issues of transistor-level simulations. Various techniques for fast SPICE simulations and Monte Carlo simulations are introduced. Moreover, process and aging variation issues are mentioned, along with promising methodologies.

      • Coordinated Beamforming With Relaxed Zero Forcing: The Sequential Orthogonal Projection Combining Method and Rate Control

        <P>In this paper, coordinated beamforming based on relaxed zero forcing (RZF) for transmitter-receiver pair multiple-input single-output (MISO) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channels is considered. In the RZF coordinated beamforming, conventional zero-forcing interference leakage constraints are relaxed so that some predetermined interference leakage to undesired receivers is allowed in order to increase the beam design space for larger rates than those of the zero-forcing (ZF) scheme or to make beam design feasible when ZF is impossible. In the MISO case, it is shown that the rate-maximizing beam vector under the RZF framework for a given set of interference leakage levels can be obtained by sequential orthogonal projection combining (SOPC). Based on this, exact and approximate closed-form solutions are provided in two-user and three-user cases, respectively, and an efficient beam design algorithm for RZF coordinated beamforming is provided in general cases. Furthermore, the rate control problem under the RZF framework is considered. A centralized approach and a distributed heuristic approach are proposed to control the position of the designed rate-tuple in the achievable rate region. Finally, the RZF framework is extended to MIMO interference channels by deriving a new lower bound on the rate of each user.</P>
