CORRELATION BETWEEN GALAXY MERGERS AND LUMINOUS ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI

<P>It is not yet clear what triggers the activity of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), but galaxy merging has been suspected to be one of the main mechanisms fueling the activity. Using deep optical images taken at various ground-based telescopes, we investigate the fraction of galaxy mergers in 39 luminous AGNs (M-R less than or similar to -22.6 mag) at z <= 0.3 (a median redshift of 0.155), for which the host galaxies are generally considered as early-type galaxies. Through visual inspection of the images, we find that 17 of 39 AGN host galaxies (43.6%) show evidence for current or past mergers like tidal tails, shells, and disturbed morphology. In order to see if this fraction is abnormally high, we also examined the merging fraction of normal early-type galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Stripe. 82 data (a median redshift of 0.04), of which the surface-brightness limit is comparable to our imaging data. To correct for the effects related to the redshift difference of the two samples, we performed an image simulation by putting a bright point source as an artificial AGN in the images of SDSS early-type galaxies and placing them onto the redshifts of AGNs. The merging fraction in this realistic sample of simulated AGNs is only similar to 5-15% (1/4 to 1/8 of that of real AGNs). Our result strongly suggests that luminous AGN activity is associated with galaxy merging.</P>

온라인 교사학습공동체를 통한 초등 영어교사 전문성 개발 탐색 : 인디스쿨 사례연구

본 연구는 초등 영어교사들의 전문성 개발 양상을 탐색하기 위하여 인디스쿨이라는 온라인 교사학습공동체를 선정 하여 초등 교사들이 공유하는 영어과 자료의 특징과 양상은 어떠한지, 이러한 온라인 교사 학습공동체가 초등 영어 교사 전문성 신장에 어떻게 기여하는지 게시물 분석과 교사 면담을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 인디스쿨은 초등 영어 교과의 특성을 반영하고 있는 자료뿐 아니라, 교사의 수업 재구성에 필요한 자료, 시기와 용도별 교사들의 수요와 학습자 특징을 고려한 다양한 자료들이 탑재되어 있었다. 초등 영어 교사들의 인디스쿨 자료 활용은 경력 그룹별로 다른 양상을 보였으며, 교사 학습 공동체로서의 역할을 수행하였다. 초임 교사들은 인디스쿨을 <도제 체험> 방식을 통해 숙달을 경험 하였고, 저경력 교사들은 <문제 은행 활용> 방식으로 반성적 수업 실천을 수행하였다. 경력 교사들은 다양한 실천적 지식을 이미 가지고 있으면서 <전문가의 관람> 과정을 통해 최근 경향 탐색을 위한 도구로 활용하여 실천적 지식의 형성과 전문성을 촉진하는 성찰 과정이 나타났다. 하지만 초임 교사일수록 인디스쿨에 대한 의존도는 높았고 경력 교사들에게는 신뢰가 낮았으며, 심화된 컨설팅 기능의 부재 등 한계점을 지니고 있었다. 따라서 교직 경력 및 영어과 교수경력을 반영한 다양한 장학의 기회 제공과 교사 전문성 신장을 위한 오프라인 컨설팅 매칭 등에 대한 지원과 연구가 필요하다. This study examined how English teachers at elementary school developed their expertise through an online teacher learning community, Indi school. To accomplish this aims, the characteristics and preferences of the uploads were analyzed, and the teachers were interviewed about how the online community contributed to their professional development. The findings indicated that Indi School was equipped not only with materials that reflected the characteristics of the subject, but also resources that aided the teachers in adapting their lessons and addressed the teachers’ and students’ needs. Although the teachers differed in how they utilized these materials, the site was useful as a teacher learning community. While the novice teachers with less than one-year teaching experience tried to apply mastery with apprenticeship, teachers with one to three years of teaching experience used the site as an item bank to reflect their lessons. The ones with more than three years of teaching experience viewed the site as a gallery audience to check current trends. The less experienced were more reliant on the materials, whereas the more experienced perceived the stie with low trust as it lacked the function of providing in-depth consultations. Therefore, this study implies the necessity for providing offline consulting services as well as other scholarships that address the different experiences of teachers and support their professional development.

SLAM의 공간 인식 기술을 활용한 실시간 모바일 혼합현실 시스템의 확장성 연구

카메라를 사용하여 임의의 환경에서 위치를 추정하고 주변 환경에 대한 지도를 작성하는 기술인 Visual SLAM은 자동차, 드론, 그리고 혼합현실 산업 등에서 확장성이 높은 기술로 여겨진다. 이에 본 논문에서는 모바일 환경에서 실시간으로 SLAM 알고리즘을 기반으로 구동되는 혼합현실시스템을 제안하며 이를 구현하기 위해 속도가 빠르고 개발 편의성이 높은 FastAPI 서버와 OpenVSLAM 알고리즘을 사용한다. 본 연구를 통해 다중 접속 혼합현실시스템 구현 기술과 같은 SLAM 분야 기술의 기반이 되어 SLAM 시장의 성장에 기여하고자 한다. Visual SLAM, a technology that uses a camera to estimate a location in random environments and create a map of the surrounding environment, is considered a highly expandable technology in the vehicles, drones, and MR industries. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an Mixed Reality system based on the SLAM algorithm in real time in a mobile environment, and to implement it, we use the FastAPI server, which is fast and easy to develop, and the OpenVSLAM algorithm. Through this study, it is expected that the growth of the SLAM market will become a basis for various technologies in the SLAM field, such as a technology for implementing multiple access MR systems.

Synergistic Effect of Bupleuri Radix and Scutellariae Radix on Adipogenesis and AMP-Activated Protein Kinase: A Network Pharmacological Approach

<P>Obesity has become a major health threat in developed countries. However, current medications for obesity are limited because of their adverse effects. Interest in natural products for the treatment of obesity is thus rapidly growing. Korean medicine is characterized by the wide use of herbal formulas. However, the combination rule of herbal formulas in Korean medicine lacks experimental evidence. According to<I> Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica</I>, the earliest book of herbal medicine, Bupleuri Radix (BR) and Scutellariae Radix (SR) possess the Sangsoo relationship, which means they have synergistic features when used together. Therefore these two are frequently used together in prescriptions such as Sosiho-Tang. In this study, we used the network pharmacological method to predict the interaction between these two herbs and then investigated the effects of BR, SR, and their combination on obesity in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. BR, SR, and BR-SR mixture significantly decreased lipid accumulation and the expressions of two major adipogenic factors, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR<I>γ</I>) and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-alpha (C/EBP<I>α</I>), and their downstream genes,<I> Adipoq</I>,<I> aP2,</I> and<I> Lipin1</I> in 3T3-L1 cells. In addition, the BR-SR mixture had synergistic effects compared with BR or SR on inhibition of adipogenic-gene expressions. BR and SR also inhibited the protein expressions of PPAR<I>γ</I> and C/EBP<I>α</I>. Furthermore, the two extracts successfully activated AMP-activated protein kinase alpha (AMPK <I>α</I>), the key regulator of energy metabolism. When compared to those of BR or SR, the BR-SR mixture showed higher inhibition rates of PPAR<I>γ</I> and C/EBP<I>α</I>, along with higher activation rate of AMPK. These results indicate a new potential antiobese pharmacotherapy and also provide scientific evidence supporting the usage of herbal combinations instead of mixtures in Korean medicine.</P>

인터넷 접속환경을 고려한 공공기관 영문 웹사이트의 타이포그래피에 관한 연구

연구배경 외국인 관광객 이천만 시대를 대비하는 시점에서 그 도시의 많은 정보를 제공하는 공공기관 영문 웹사이트의 중요성은 점점 더 커지고 있지만, 웹디자이너의 영문 웹사이트 타이포그래피에 대한 이해가 부족하다. 그동안 국내에서 웹사이트의 한글 타이포그래피에 대해서 많은 연구와 실험이 있었지만, 영문 웹사이트의 타이포그래피에 대한 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 연구방법 공공기관 영문 웹사이트의 타이포그래피에 대하여 웹사이트의 텍스트 구성(폰트, 색채, 정렬, 가독성)과 이를 웹사이트에서 구현하기 위한 기술적인 방법(HTML, 텍스트의 이미지화, CSS, 폰트 임베딩, 플래시와 Ajax)을 탐구하고자 한다. 국내 대도시 공공기관인 서울시, 부산시, 대전시 영문 웹사이트의 타이포그래피 활용사례에 대해 분석하고, 다양한 인터넷 접속환경에서의 영문 타이포그래피에 대한 활용방안을 모색하고자 한다. 연구결과 국내 공공기관 영문 웹사이트를 분석한 결과 텍스트를 이미지화하여 과다하게 사용하는 점, 텍스트 이미지의 파일용량, 대체 텍스트의 부재 등 대부분 비슷한 문제점들이 발견되었다. 이는 웹디자이너들이 방문자의 인터넷 접속환경을 고려하지 않고, 화려한 디자인 작업에만 치우친 결과이다. 결론 영문 웹사이트의 타이포그래피에 있어서 가장 고려해야 할 사항은 디자이너가 의도한 대로 웹사이트의 방문자가 볼 수 있느냐 이다. 영문 웹사이트의 경우 주요 방문객이 외국인 이라는 점에서 접속하는 나라의 초고속 인터넷 사용여부, 영문폰트의 소유여부, 주요 브라우저 등 그들의 인터넷 접속환경을 고려해야 할 것이다. Background The importance of the government English websites that provides information about the city is getting bigger, however, the web designers are not aware of the website's English typography. In the meantime, there have been many researches and experiments on the Korean typography of websites in Korea, but the study of typography in the English websites has been insufficient. Methods Study the visual representation(font, color, alignment, text block width and readability) and be implemented the technical methods(HTML, text image, CSS, font embedding, Flash and Ajax) of the typography on English websites. Also, analyze the government's English websites in south Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyze how to use typography of English websites and utilize English typography in various internet environments. Result In the case of government English websites in south Korea, most similar problems were found, such as excessive use of textual images, image file capacity, and lack of alternative text. This is a result of the web designers not focusing on the internet environment of the visitors, but on the brilliant design technique. Conclusion The most important consideration in the visual representation of English typography on websites is the websites are viewed by visitors same as the intention of the designers. In the case of the English websites, the major visitors are foreigners, so it is necessary to consider their internet environment such as the use of broadband Internet, the possession of English fonts and major browsers what they use mostly.
