      • Peroxiredoxin V Regulates Aco2, Acadm, and Acox1 Activity in Hypoxic Kidney

        Peroxiredoxin V, an atypical thioredoxin peroxidase, is widely expressed in mammalian tissues. In addition, Prdx V is localized in mitochondria, peroxisome, cytosol, and nucleus. Prdx V has been reported to protect a wide range of cellular environments as antioxidant enzyme, and its dysfunctions may be implicated in several diseases, such as cancer, inflammation, and neurodegenerative disease. Identification and relative quantification of proteins affected by Prdx V may help identify novel signaling mechanisms that are important for oxidative stress response. However, the role of Prdx V in the modulation of hypoxia‐related cellular response is not studied yet. In order to examine the function of endogenous Prdx V in hypoxic condition in vivo, we generated a transgenic mouse model with Prdx V siRNA expression controlled by U6 promoter. Of many tissues, the knockdown of Prdx V expression was displayed in kidney, lung, and liver, but not spleen and skin. We conducted on the basis of nano‐UPLC‐MSE proteomic study to identify the Prdx V‐affected protein networks in hypoxic kidneys. In this study, we identified protein networks associated with oxidative stress, fatty acid metabolism, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Our results indicated that Prdx V affected to regulation of kidney homeostasis under hypoxia stress.

        Electropulsing Treatment on Enhancement of Electrical Conductivity of Screen-Printed Ag Wire

        The effect of high electric current density on the sintering of Ag wires manufactured by screen printing is evaluated throughelectrical resistivity analysis and microstructure observation. Different forms (continuous and pulsed) of electric currentwith different current densities are applied to the specimens. Conventional heat treatment is also performed as a controlgroup to examine the athermal effect of electropulsing treatment. Compared to the conventional heat treatment, the resistivityis reduced more under the electropulsing treatment with continuous current for the same temperature and treatment time.Also, the process time of electropulsing treatment can be reduced by applying a pulse form of high density current insteadof continuous current without losing the benefit of enhanced reduction of resistivity. The microstructural observationsobtained from high angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscope and a digital precession instrumentclearly show that necking connecting the crystals is formed more firmly under electric current. In addition, the temperaturechange of Ag wire and substrate is calculated according to the change of the resistivity when the electric current is appliedto confirm the reliability.

        인구재분배(Population Redistribution) 정책에 대하여

        The population redistribution policy of Korea may be summarized as follows: 1. Decentralization of industries. 2. Construction of new towns including development of temporary administrative city. 3. Development of growth poles. 1. The decentralization of industries as a means of population dispersion has been widely debated and proven to be effective in many other countries. As pointed out before, the decentralization of industries has a widely varying degree of impacts on population dispersion according to the nature of industrial re-location programs. 2. The construction of new towns and the development of administrative cities have proven to be effective as a population redistribution policy in socialist countries and Japan. These example do not guarantee success if such policy is applied in Korea. The success depends on the amount of the concomitant investment to be made in educational and cultural facilities in the new towns. 3. The development of growth poles as a means of population dispersion has not proved to be successful in the Eastern Block Countries and Japan. However, this may be the optimal means of dispersion population for Korea when one considers her present level of economic development. (1) The development of farming sector and (2) the slow-down of farming population exodus into cities should be considered as a viable alternative program for population dispersion policy. We cannot cite many examples in other countries where the development and improvement of farming sector has been successful as a means of dispersing population. However, Japan's development of her northern areas has not only improved the standard of living in Hokkaido but also contributed to population dispersion. Discussant Yoon, Jong Ju: Population movements in Korea have resulted in the concentration of people in cities and the reduction of farming households. In the Sixties, the population of the nation converged into Seoul. As a result, the population dispersion policy emphasized the "slowing-down" of the population movements in to Seoul. This policy has shown some success in that the rate of population growth in Seoul has decreased since 1970 and the more so since 1975. This phenomenon, however, is confined to the city of Seoul. The surrounding areas have shown an increasing rate of population growth. The above indicates that population policy and population dispersion program should be conducted with long-range planning, if they were to be successful. However, such has not been the case. It should also be pointed out that population policy should be a comprepensive program encompassing population, economic and social aspects. Korean population policy has not been such comprehensive program. The population policy in the Eighties should not confine itself in decreasing the rate of population growth. Instead, it should focus on improving the quality of population and thereby, increasing the manpower of high quality. In order to carry out such policy, investment should be made to improve the data on population, in particular, on children. Discussant Kim, Sun Dong: Korean population policy does not possess foresight and is segmented without a clearly formulated long range goal. One inevitable and undeniable fact appears to be that three quarters of the nation's population will eventually settle in urban cities. There are many problems associated with the population concentration in the urban areas. First, there exist the well-known problems of environments and traffic congestions in urban centers. Second, there are the problems associated with the effective utilization of the nation's land and natural resources. Third, there are the geopolitical issues related to the national defense and security. Although we recognize these problems, it should be also pointed out that population concentration in cities is an inevitable result and cause of economic development.<

        1845년 김대건 신부 일행의 상륙 장소에 관한 연구

        본 논문은 한국천주교회사나 지역사의 입장에서 중요한 역사적 의미를 지니고 있는 1845년 페레올((Ferreol) 주교·다블뤼(Daveluy) 신부·김대건(안드레아) 신부 일행의 상륙 장소를 체계적으로 규명한 것이다. 우선 함께 입국했던 선교사들은 그들의 상륙 장소를 `강경 항구` 또는 `강경 포구에서 좀 떨어진 외딴 곳`으로 밝혔다. 이를 바탕으로 1874년 달레는 상륙 장소를 강경 포구로 이해하는 강경포설을 제기했다. 그러나 기해·병오 순교자 시복 재판 때 최선정(베드로)이 김대건 신부 일행의 상륙 장소를 `강경 황산동네`로 증언한 기록을 토대로 1934년 피숑(Pichon) 신부는 상륙 장소를 강경포가 아니라 황산포로 이해하는 황산포설을 제기하였다. 그러나 이러한 황산포설은 상륙 장소를 `화산`으로 밝힌 나바위 본당의 기록을 자료로 활용하지 않은 점에서 한계가 있다. 한편 1882년 처음 형성된 나바위 공소 신자들의 증언을 바탕으로 1953년 김후상 신부는 김대건 신부 일행의 상륙 장소를 `화산`으로 밝혀 화산설을 제기했다. 그러나 나바위 본당의 기록에는 상륙 장소를 `강경포`나 `황산포`로 밝힌 부분도 있다. 하지만 그는 상륙 장소를 `강경 황산포 화산`으로 분명히 밝혔다. 그러므로 나바위 신앙 공동체의 기록에서 상륙 장소를 강경포로도 황산포로도 화산으로도 언급한 것은 상륙 장소인 `강경 황산포 화산`을 지명도에 따라 각기 다른 단위로 표현한 것으로서 서로 모순되지 않는다. 따라서 김대건 신부 일행의 상륙 장소는 화산으로 보는 것이 옳다. 그리고 상륙 장소의 조건을 고려할 때 화산 중에서도 나암포 쪽이나 황산포 쪽에서도 보이지 않는 금강 쪽으로 쑥 내민 서쪽 자락으로 생각된다. This paper systemically investigated the disembarkation location of Bishop Ferreol, Fr. Daveluy and Fr. Andrew Kim Tae-gon(金大建) in 1845, which has a great historic significance in the Korean Catholic Church history and the local history. First of all, the missionaries who accompanied Fr. Andrew to Korea revealed that they disembarked at Ganggyeong(江景) Port or a remote place away from an entrance to Gyanggyeong Port. Based on the statement, Dallet suggested the theory of Gyanggyeong Port that Fr. Andrew and his party disembarked at Ganggyeong Port. However, St. Peter Choi Seon-Jeong(최선정) testified that Fr. Andrew and his party disembarked at Hwangsan(黃山) village in Ganggyeong in the beatification trial on the martyrs under persecution in the years of Gihae(己亥, 1839) and Byeongoh(丙午, 1846). Based on the testimony, Fr. Pichon proposed the theory of Hwangsan(華山) that the disembarkation location was Hwangsan Port rather than Ganggyeong Port. However, there was a limit in the theory of Hwangsan since it did not consider the records of the Nabawi Catholic Community, which mentioned that the disembarkation location was Hwasan. Meanwhile, Fr. Kim Hoo-sang suggested the theory of Hwasan in 1953 that Fr. Andrew and his party disembarked at Hwasan, based on the testimony of the Nabawi Catholic Community that was founded in 1882. However, some of the records of the Nabawi Catholic Community mentioned that the disembarkation location was Ganggyeong Port or Hwangsan Port. However, he clearly revealed Hwasan of Hwangsan Port in Ganggyeong as the disembarkation location. Therefore, the terms `Ganggyeong Port`, `Hwangsan Port` or `Hwasan` in the records of the Nabawi Catholic Community were not contradictory to each other, since the disembarkation location was expressed in different units depending on the well-knownness of the area. Therefore, it is right to consider Hwasan as the location at which Fr. Andrew and his party disembarked. Given the conditions for disembarkation, it is considered that the exact location was on the western edge of Hwasan towards Geumgang River that was hardly seen from the side of Naam Port(羅巖浦) or Hwangsan Port(黃山浦).         The Identification of Aucklandiae Radix, Inulae Radix, Vladimiriae Radix and Aristolochiae Radix, Using Macroscopic, Microscopic and Physicochemical Methods

        Objectives: This study aimed for establishing the discriminative criteria for Aucklandiae Radix, Inulae Radix, Vladimiriae Radix and Aristolochiae Radix, which can be confused as 'Mokhyang', because of similar appearances and synonyms. Methods: Morphological characteristics of dried herbal medicines were compared by macroscopic observation. To examine microscopic features of 'Mokhyang', paraffin embedding and the staining by using Ju's method were conducted. Physicochemical experiments were performed using HPLC analysis and antioxidant assay. Results: The types of stem, phyllotaxy and leaf shape were chosen as macroscopic criteria and the size, oil spots, color and root top as well as phloem and central cylinder were compared using microscopic features. The HPLC results showed different amounts of costunolide and dehydrocostuslactone among Aucklandiae Radix, Inulae Radix and Vladimiriae Radix. However, Aristolochiae Radix only contained aristolochic acid. The antioxidant assays also showed that Vladimiriae Radix exhibited strongest antioxidant activity followed by Aucklandiae Radix, Inulae Radix and Aristolochiae Radix. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that macroscopic, microscopic and physicochemical methods would be useful tools for the discrimination of 4 kinds of 'Mokhyang'.

        소아청소년과의사의 영유아기 구강건강 관리에 대한 인식도 조사

        국민건강보험공단에서 실시하는 영유아 건강검진은 5회의 일반검진과 2회의 구강검진으로 구성되어 있다. 하지만 9개월 영유아 건강검진 시 구강건강 상담 및 교육은 일반의사가 담당하도록 되어 있어 이를 주로 담당하게 될 소아청소년과의사의 구강건강 상담 항목에 대한 지식이 필요한 상황이다. 이번 조사의 목적은 소아청소년과 전문의나 전공의를 대상으로 영유아기 구강건강교육에 대한 인식도를 알아보는 것으로 150명의 설문을 분석해 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 조사 대상자의 대부분은 유아기우식증으로 인한 치과 의뢰 경험이 있었고, 절반 이상의 응답자는 영유아 환자에 대해 구강검사를 시행하지 않고 있었다. 2. 조사 대상 소아청소년과의사들의 첫 치과방문 시기에 관한 적절한 인식도가 확립되지 않았다. 3. 영유아 건강검진 중 구강건강 교육 항목에 대한 인지도가 전반적으로 부족하였다. 이에 대한 교육의 강화가 필요하다. 4. 영유아 구강질환 예방을 위한 의과계의 관심과 더불어 치과계와의 협조가 필요하리라 생각 된다. For prevention of ECC, the Korean Academy Of Pediatric Dentistry(KAPD) advocate that Children should be seen as early as 6 months of age after the first tooth erupts, or 12 months of age. Pediatrics have increased access to new mothers and children 6 to 12 months while dentists does not see young children unless there are urgent problems. Therefore, they have an opportunity to impact infant oral health care. This study's purpose was to examine pediatricians' awareness and experience about infant oral health care. For the study, we surveyed of 150 pediatricians in korea. The survey comprised 10 questions related to infant oral health care and the recommended age a child go for their first dental visit. The results were as follows: 1. Most respondents had been referred children to a dentist for treating ECC and more than half of respondents reported that they did not do oral examination in their practice. 2. The majority of surveyed pediatricians are not advising patients to see the dentist by 1 year of age. 3. The surveyed pediatrician's awareness of infant oral health care is insufficient. The oral health education should be reinforced. 4. There is a need for increased infant oral health care education in the medical and dental communities.

        Formocresol pulpotomy와 연관된 함치성 낭종의 시험례

        1904년 Buckley에 의해 치근관 살균제로 도입된 이후로 1:5로 희석된 formocresol을 사용한 치수절단술이 치아우식에 의한 유치의 비가역적 치수염시에 가장 많이 사용되어 왔다. Formocresol은 치수조직의 높은 고정능력으로 높은 임상적 성공률을 보이고 있으나 자체독성이 매우 강하여 영구 계승치 치배의 변위나 결손, 법랑질 형성 부전, 전신흡수로 인한 돌연변이 가능성과 암유발 가능성 역시 보고되고 있다. 또한 formocresol을 사용한 치수절단술 후에 과사용된 formocresol에 의한 만성적인 염증이 계승 영구치로 확산되어 퇴축법랑상피의 증식을 자극하고 법랑질로부터 퇴축법랑상피를 분리시켜 함치성 낭종을 형성할 수 있음이 보고되고 있다. 본 증례는 3년 전 응급으로 하악 좌측 제 2유구치의 formocresol을 사용한 치수절단술 후 정기 검진을 위해 내원한 환자의 방사선 사진에서 함치성 낭종이 발견되어 낭종 제거와 함께 유치의 발치를 시행했고 발치된 유치에서 formocresol cotton pellet이 제거되지 않은 채로 발견되어 formocresol이 장기간 남아있음으로 인해 낭종을 형성할 수 있음을 보고하는 바이다. Buckley's formocresol was first introduced as a pulp medicament in 1904, and since 1930, it has been the treatment of choice for primary molar pulpotomies. Formocresol has fixation effect of pulp tissue and high clinical success rate. But side effect such as displacement and loss of permanent successor, amelogenesis imperfecta, cyst formation, mutation by general absorption, possibility of cancer induction have been reported. Of those, dentigerous cyst can form in the periradicular region after formocresol pulpotomy caused by an alteration of the reduced enamel epithelium, which result in fluid accumulation between the epithelium and the tooth crown. The present case describes a 6-year-old girl who had accidentally discovered in the panoramic radiograph a single, well-defined, radioluscent area enclosing the second unerupted mandibular premolar. The second left primary molar had been pulpotomizied 3 year before. Surgical treatment was carried out, the primary molar was extracted and cystectomy was performed under local anesthesia. In the extracted second primary molar, formocresol cotton pellet was left in the pulp chamber. Histologic study confirmed the suspected diagnosis of dentigerous cyst. This report present a case of dentigerous cyst associated with inadequate formocresol pulpotomized deciduous molar.

      • 피혁슬러지 고형화시 시멘트 혼화제의 영향

        The cement-based system among S/S(Solidification/Stabilization) is widely used to treat hazardous wastes. In this study, tannery sludge was solidified to evaluate the stabilization effects of using admixtures in the cement-based S/S. Fly ash as substitute also used to increase the strength of the S/S of hazardous waste. The compressive strength measurement and leaching experiment of chromium metal of solidified mortar were carried out to compare and evaluate the physical and chemical characteristics of solidified hazardous waste sludge. From the result of this study, there was increased of compressive strength by using AEW-3(early-hardening AE water reducing agent), and leaching concentration of chromium became low enough to satisfy the regulatory criteria. The successful solidification for the organic contaminant and heavy metal in hazardous waste should enable to treat by cement-based system using early-hardening AE water reducing admixture and fly ash as substituted cement.
