Hollow fiber reactor is used as hollow fiber bioreactors for cells and enzymes, reverse osmosis, artificial kidney and uranium extraction. Agish has shown experimentally the existence of flow nonuniformity among the embedded fibers. Recently a numerical method to calculate the velocity distribution in the module without ultrafiltration and the nonuniformity was verified experimentally. In this study the pressure drop in the tube with ultrafiltration was investigated to develop the computational algorithm for the nonuniformity in the module with ultrafiltration. The Hagen Poiseuille equation which has been used to calculate the pressure drop in the tube was not proper in this system and the pressure was increased with the extent of ultrafiltration.

Soil salinity is one of the most serious abiotic stresses limiting the productivity of agricultural crops. To cope with salt stress, plants respond with physiological, developmental and biochemical changes, including the synthesis of a number of proteins and the induction of gene expression. Salicornia herbacea is a halophytic plant that grows in salt marches and on muddy seashores. In order to understand the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of salt tolerance in S. herbacea, we isolated several genes that involved in the salt tolerance by mRNA differential display.Here we report the cloning of a cDNA encoding fructose-1, 6-bisphosphate aldolase, named ShADL, which is 1293 bp long and contains an open reading frame consisted of 359 amino acids with calculated molecular mass of 39 kDa. ShADL protein showed 86% identity with Arabidopsis and 78% with aldolase of common ice plant. Northern blot analysis revealed that the transcript of ShADL gene was increased dramatically depending on the NaCI concentrations.

여러 비행조건에서 비연료 소모율을 최소화하기 위한 성능과 번수들의 최적의 조합을 얻을 수 있는 최적 설계점해석 기법을 개발하였다. 비행조건에 따른 주된 설계변수들의 민감도에 대한 해석도 수행하였다. 우선 여러변수들의 가능한 작동 범위를 선정하고, 이들의 범위 내에서 설계가능한 최대, 최소 비추력과 비 연료 소모육을 구하였으며, 추력을 고정시켰을때 가능한 최적의 비연료소모율을 구하였다. A method for optimal design point analysis gas been developed to obtain both the optimal performance and the best combination of design values of the aircraft jet engine for minimum TSFC at various flight conditions. Parametric studies of the principal design variables sensitive to flight conditions were performed. And sensitivity analysis on the design variables near the optimum point was also performed. First, possible operation range of engine variables were choosen, Then possible minimum, maximum specific thrust and TSFC was found within operation range. And direction of design to minimize TSFC was found. Also, optimal TSFC was calculated at fixed specific thrust with afterburner and without afterburner.

Since the globalization has been emphasized as one of the major policy goals of the government from 1980s, the political change of the end of cold war age has required a new international order. We have experienced the rapid economic growth and urbanization for the fast 30 years, but in the reality that the people's awareness of crisis for the changes of the recent international political and economic order and the age of localization comes in domestic condition, we have not enough time to equip with self-supporting power and the mature consciousness. Moreover, the flexible attitude that can define two urgent tasks by two wheels connected to an axis rather than consider them as the separate problems is required. Therefore, this study is to suggest what strategies the local cities under the condition that opportunity and crisis, and advantage and disadvantage coexist should develop for the globalization and how the roles of public sectors which have performed many roles as the subject of the development should be progressed in the developmental process of local cities, and then it is to help develop the globalization related projects of local cities effectively.
사람의 비후성 반흔에서 면역조직화학기법에 의한 형질전환인자 알파와 표피성장인자 발현의 차이에 관한 면역조직화학적 연구

Background and Objectives: Transforming growth factor-α (TGF-α) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) are polypeptides which interact with the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) to produce their biological effects. The aim of the present investigation was to elucidate the immunolocalization of TGF-α and EGF in normal human skin, hypertrophic scar with skin graft on soft tissue defect, and postburn hypertrophic scar without graft. Methods: The data presented in this paper focused attention on differences of expression between two kinds of hypertrophic scars in relation to skin graft using immunohistochemistry. Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissues from 3 normal skin tissues, 3 hypertrophic scars after skin graft and 8 postburn hypertrophic scars without graft were immunolabelled with antibodies directed against TGF-α and EGF. Results: In normal epidermis of skin, strong TGF-α immunoreactivity (IR) was observed in all epidermal layers except the stratum (S.) basale, whereas EGF was immunopositive in a few cells over all epidermal layers. The staining for TGF-α was found in cell membrane, and EGF was seen either diffuse cytoplasmic or peripheral part of cells in normal epidermis. In hypertrophic scar after six months postoperation, TGF-α IR was observed in the upper part of S. spinosum and S. corneum, whereas EGF was diffusely expressed in the S. spinosum, also its intensity was slightly increased compared to normal skin. In hypertrophic scar without skin graft, very strong expression of EGF was detected in the S. spinosum and S. corneum, and intensity of EGF was increased when compared to normal skin and postoperative hypertrophic scar. EGF and TGF-α coexisted in the cells of S. spinosum in normal skin as well as hypertrophic scars. Double-labeled cells were increased in postburn hypertrophic scar compared to normal skin and postoperative hypertrophic scar. In addition, intensity of EGF and TGF-α double IR was the strongest in postburn hypertrophic scar. Conclusion: These results indicate that EGF may have a more complex regulatory role not only in the early stages of wound healing but also in hypertrophic scar.

The dynamic mechanical properties of thermotropic liquid crystalline polyester (LCP) blends with polystyrene (PS) and Li sulfonated polystyrene (PSSLi) were investigated. It was found that PS forms an immiscible blend with LCP. However, above the matrix T_(g) of the PS, the addition of the LCP increases the modulus of the blend significantly because the LCP acts as filler below its T_(g). In PSSLi/LCP blend system, it was also found that, in the temperature range between two T_(g)s of the ionomer, the LCP acts as filler and thus increases the modulus of the blend. However, the filler effect of the LCP on the modulus decreases rapidly with increasing temperature and disappears above the T_(g) of the LCP. Finally, it was suggested that the PSSLi may be partially miscible with the LCP via ion-dipole interactions between a Li^(+) cation of the PSSLi and a carbonyl group of the LCP.

Complementary DNA encoding chloroplast outer envelope membrane protein (OEP) from the halophyte Salicornia herbacea has been cloned and sequenced. The full length cDNA is 596 bp and encodes a polypeptide of 91 amino acid residues with a molecular mass of 8.9 kDa. The expression level of ShOEP increased by salt, drought and ABA treatments. ShOEP expression was largely induced in roots and shoots by high salts. The biological function of ShOEP was examined by yeast complementation. ShOEP can suppress Na+ sensitivity of yeast mutant (cnbΔ) in the presence of salt. These results suggest that ShOEP is a salt inducible gene and may have functions in the regulation of plant salt stress.

In the previous study, we suggested a new concept, named as GRSS(Gel-Route Stabilization/Solidification) and investigated a material system applicable to volatile radioactive waste, a reaction condition and chemical limitations. From these results, this paper investigated the effect of some additives, which have been considered as the major component of ceramic waste forms(apatite and sodium zirconium phosphate), on the thermal stability and chemical durability. The Si-P system with Ca at appropriate composition shows good thermal stability but low chemical durability while the Si-P system with Zr shows relatively low thermal stability but relatively high chemical durability.
