In a gas engine based cogeneration system, heat may be recovered from two parts: jacket water and exhaust gas. The heat from the jacket water is often recovered using a plate-type heat exchanger, and is used for room heating and/or hot water supply applications. Depending on the operating conditions of an engine and heat recovery system, there may be an imbalance in the flow rate and supply pressure between the engine side and the heat-recovery side of the heat exchanger. This imbalance causes deformation of the plate, which affects heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics. In the present study, the heat transfer and pressure drop inside a heat exchanger were investigated under varying hot-side and cold-side operating conditions. Thermal efficiency of the plate heat exchanger decreases up to 30% with an operating engine load of 50%. A correction factor for the pressure drop correlation is proposed to account for the deformation caused by an imbalance between the two sides of a heat exchanger.
순산소 재순환 연소를 채택한 CO₂ 회수형 보일러 개발

A 0.5 ㎿ class oxy-fuel boiler has been developed to capture CO₂ from the exhaust gas. Based on the previous 50 ㎾ model test, the sealing of the system has been improved and FGR (flue gas recirculation) has been tried. Condensing economizer has been added to sequestrate CO₂ by the heat exchange with oxygen evaporator. Oxy-fuel combustion yields stretched flame to uniformly heat the combustion chamber. It also provides the high CO₂ concentration, which is over 90% in dry base. However, pure oxy-fuel combustion increases NO concentration, because of the reduced flow rate. The FGR can suppress the thermal NOx induced by the infiltration of the air.

본 연구에서는 VIStA (Vortex Inertial Staged Air) 버너를 개조하여 관류보일러에 적용하였다. 2차 공기를 노즐을 통해 공급하던 원형과 달리 선회기를 통해 공급함으로써 화염을 안정화하고 일산화탄소(CO)의 발생량을 저감하였다. 그러나, 이러한 개조과정에서 질소산화물(NOx)의 발생이 증가하는 문제가 발생하였다. CO와 NOx 발생량을 함께 제어하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 화염분할을 적용하였다. VIStA 버너는 2개의 연소실이 있고 각각의 연소실에 공급되는 공기량을 댐퍼로 조절하며 3가지 종류의 화염분할 장치를 설계, 장착하여 공기비, 연소부하에 따른 연소 특성을 파악하였다. 화염분할을 통하여 CO 농도 증가는 10 ppm 이내로 유지하면서 NOx의 발생량은 25%까지 저감하는 결과를 얻었다. A modified VIStA (Vortex Inertial Staged Air) burner has been developed and applied to a once-through type boiler. The secondary air is supplied through a swirler instead of nozzles, which stabilizes the flame and reduces carbon monoxide (CO) emissions. However, the modification increases the emission of nitrogen oxides (NOx). To balance emissions of the two pollutants, a divided flame was adopted. An air damper was installed to control the distribution of air to each combustion chamber, and three types of flame dividers were studied. The effects of the air-fuel ratio and combustion load on the NOx formation were investigated. The divided flame was found to reduce the NOx emission up to 25%, while keeping the CO to less than 10 ppm.

A catalytic burner has been developed to utilize thermal energy from the fossil fuel without nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission. The burner is shaped into a mat to maximize the heating surface. Premixed combustion has been developed to be used in a closed chamber, such as a radiation type industrial dryer. The burner yields the thermal energy in the form of thermal radiation in the infrared regime, which is proved to be effective to dry organic substances for low moisture condition. Thermal efficiency including the sensible heat is better correlated to the moisture compared to the dry rate.
미니 보일러 개념을 적용한 소형 HRSG의 열전달 특성

The present study has been conducted to develop a heat recovery steam generator for a 1 ㎿ class gas engine based cogeneration system. The steam generator recovers the heat from the exhaust gas of the engine. A water tube type boiler has been adopted for the steam generator to be compliant with a high pressure application. To secure the water circulation in the boiler, a novel modular type boiler has been devised based on the mini boiler concept. The boiler is composed of finned tube type risers, whose heat transfer characteristics has been measured and compared with the conventional correlation for the design.
관류보일러 연소실에서 비예혼합 VIStA 버너의 연소 특성

본 연구에서는 VIStA(Vortex Inertial Staged Air) 버너를 개조하여 관류보일러에 적용하였다. 개조는 크게 2가지 부분에서 이루어 졌는데, 먼저 원형에서 채택한 예혼합 연소 방식을 사용상 편의와 안전을 위해 비예혼합방식으로 변경하였다. 연소 방식의 변경에 따라 공기 1차, 2차에 별도의 송풍기를 사용하던 공급 방식도 변경하여 본 연구에서는 하나의 송풍기로부터 공기를 공급받아 댐퍼를 통하여 1, 2차 연소실에 분할하여 공기를 공급하도록 하였다. 본 연구에서는 질소 산화물(NOx)의 생성을 억제하는 최적의 운전 조건을 찾기 위하여 전체 공기비 및 1, 2차 연소실로의 공기 분배 비율에 따른 NOx 생성 특성을 관찰하였다. 본 연구에서 산업용 보일러에 적용하기 위해 개조한 비예혼합 방식의 VIStA 버너를 설치한 결과, 기존의 일반 버너에 비해 균일한 화염을 얻었고 질소 산화물을 최대 20%까지 줄일 수 있는 것을 확인하였다. An air damper is installed to control the distribution of air to each combustion chamber. The effects of the air-fuel ratio and air distribution on NOx formation were investigated. The newly modified VIStA burner gives NOx reduction effect by maximum 20% in the combustion chamber of a boiler, while it yields more uniform flame than the conventional burner.

In a gas engine based cogeneration system, heat is recovered from two parts, which are jacket water and exhaust gas. The heat from the jacket water is often recovered by a plate type heat exchanger and used for the room heating and/or hot water supply. 특정 곡면에서 선정된 제어점들을 이용한 스플라인 곡면 특성

3차 다항식을 이용하여 구성된 곡선을 Piecewise cubic polynomial curves(PCPC)라 하며, 이 개념을 이용하여 제시된 제어점들을 통과하면서 곡면이 구성되도록 하는 방법이 Piecewise cubic polynomial splines(PCPS)이다. 본 논문에서는 PCPS법을 이용하여 스플라인 곡면을 구성하는 새로운 알고리즘을 개발하였으며, 여러가지 방법에 의하여 구성된 곡면들의 특성을 비교 분석하였다.
