        Defensive Measure(자위적 조치)시리즈와 동시대 한국 금속조각의 방향성에 관한 고찰

        본 연구는, 동시대 한국 금속조각계를 비롯한 우리 조각계가 앞으로 나아가야 할 긍정적인 방향성을 제시하며, 본 연구자의 작품테마인 Defensive Measure시리즈에 대한 내용을 중심으로 논하고 있다. 본 연구는 그 시대적인 범위로서 과거와는 달리 유난히 물성(物性)과 미적시인성(美的視認性)을 기반으로 하여 재료성에 대한 연구와 외형적인 표현성을 다루는 데에 중점을 두었던 2000년대 한국의 현 대조각계를 두고, 당시의 시대정신에 대한 문제의식을 제기하며 ‘조각가’라고 하는 소중한 명칭으로 불리우는 사람이 갖추어야 할, 조각가로서의 ‘태도’에 관련한 내용을 이야기함으로써 그 방향성을 제시하고자 함을 그 목적으로 한다. 이에 따른 연구방법으로서 본 연구자가 작가지망생의 신분으로서 직접 경험하고 느꼈던 2000년대 초반의 yBa(young British artists)의 실로 강력하였던 그 영향력과 지금껏 경험치 못하였던 해외옥션과 아트페어를 중심으로 한 미술시장의 커다란 흥행이 한국의 조각계에 미쳤던 영향을 소개한다. 그러한 영향으로 인하여 작품의 근간(根幹)이 되어야 함에 마땅한 이른바‘내용성’에 대한 탐구보다는, 새롭고 독특한 조형재료를 발견하고자 노력하며 그에 따른 지금껏 경험치 못한 시각이미지를 생산해 내기 위하여 열중하였던 본 연구자를 포함한 당시 신진조각가 및 작가 지망생의 작품제작에 대한 인식과 태도에 대한 문제의식을 재고(再考)한다. 그리고 본 연구자의 작품테마인 Defensive Measure시리즈를 소개함으로써 금속을 주로 다루는 본 연구자의 작품제작에 있어서의 과거와 현재에 대한 작가로서의 태도변화를 논하며, 결론부에서 작품은 ‘수단이 아닌 목적(目的) 그 자체’라는 개념을 바탕으로, 2000년대를 오롯이 몸으로 겪어내고 눈으로 직접 보아온 우리 미술가들이, 전술(前述)한 바와 같은 ‘문제에 대하여 인식하고 그 나름의 사고를 해야한다’라고 하는 ‘작가로서의 책무(責務)’와 그에 대한 ‘인식의 환기(換氣)’에 대하여 논한다. The aim of this study is to examine the history and development of the metal sculpture scene in Korea, and to suggest a direction, to which the Korean sculptural community must strive to pursue. As for the research’s range, this paper focuses on material studies and expression of forms based on the aspects of physical property and aesthetic legibility that were pursed by the Korean sculptors in the 2000’s, unlike their predecessors. By bringing up proper qualification and ideal spirituality that a sculptor must posses, this research suggests a direction that respectful sculptors must aim to achieve. For that, this paper will show how metal sculpture has progressed along with the invention and development of common industrial goods, since the time of Modernism. By highlighting the early 2000’s yBa(young British artists) group’s powerful influence in the art market, which the researcher has seen in person, this study examines the relationship between the rise of international art auctions and art fairs, and the impact on the sculptural scene in Korea. And by raising the problematic approach to sculpting, which focused more on new materials and strong visuals rather than on contents, this study criticizes such overworked artistic approach and attitude of the artists, including the author, at the time. For such example, this study analyzes the researcher’s shift in the attitude toward making artworks throughout the past and present. In the conclusion, based on the concept that an artwork should be an end rather than means, this study acknowledges the problems, of which the artists of the 2000’s went through in person. And the research discusses about the responsibility of an artist, and calls new attention to the perception.

        A study on the variation of the performance and the cost of power generation in a combined heat and power plant with the change of the user facility's return temperature

        A combined heat and power (CHP) system generates electricity from thermal energy and generates heat by utilizing the remaining thermal energy. The system efficiency of the cogeneration system is 75~85 %, which is very high compared to existing only power generation facilities, so it is very useful for energy conservation and environmental protection. For this reason, interest in the cogeneration system is increasing worldwide. Generally, a cogeneration plant consists of a steam turbine alone or the combined power generation of a gas turbine and a steam turbine depending on the scale. The steam turbine is divided into a back-pressure type turbine and a condensing type turbine depending on the operational methodology of the steam turbine. In both cases, the shift in the return temperature of the district heating users influences the performance of the cogeneration plant, thus affecting the power generation costs of the power plant. It is possible to accurately estimate the change in the unit cost of the power generation caused by these changes, and to inflict it on the user, thereby changing the usage pattern of the user and reducing the energy consumption accordingly. In this study, the commercial combined cycle cogeneration system using back - pressure type turbine was simulated, and the change of performance of the combined heat and power plant was analyzed while changing the user facility's total return temperature. Based on the results of this analysis, a possible loss in the plant according to the change of return temperature was predicted. Also, the effect of each user’s return temperature on the plant loss was analyzed using an actual user's return temperature data. The economic-mechanical approach, such as this study, can alleviate dissatisfaction with the user's charge and to consume energy in a more rational way. It eventually can play a role in reducing carbon emissions.

        A histone deacetylase, MoHOS2 regulates asexual development and virulence in the rice blast fungus

        Histone acetylation/deacetylation represent a general and efficient epigenetic mechanism through which fungal cells control gene expression. Here we report developmental requirement of MoHOS2-mediated histone deacetylation (HDAC) for the rice blast fungus, Magnaporthe oryzae. Structural similarity and nuclear localization indicated that MoHOS2 is an ortholog of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Hos2, which is a member of class I histone deacetylases and subunit of Set3 complex. Deletion of MoHOS2 led to 25% reduction in HDAC activity, compared to the wild-type, confirming that it is a bona-fide HDAC. Lack of MoHOS2 caused decrease in radial growth and impinged dramatically on asexual sporulation. Such reduction in HDAC activity and phenotypic defects of ΔMohos2 were recapitulated by a single amino acid change in conserved motif that is known to be important for HDAC activity. Expression analysis revealed up-regulation of MoHOS2 and concomitant down-regulation of some of the key genes involved in asexual reproduction under sporulation-promoting condition. In addition, the deletion mutant exhibited defect in appressorium formation from both germ tube tip and hyphae. As a result, ΔMohos2 was not able to cause disease symptoms. Wound-inoculation showed that the mutant is compromised in its ability to grow inside host plants as well. We found that some of ROS detoxifying genes and known effector genes are de-regulated in the mutant. Taken together, our data suggest that MoHOS2-dependent histone deacetylation is pivotal for proper timing and induction of transcription of the genes that coordinate developmental changes and host infection in M. oryzae.

        Implementation of Specific Frequency Response Using SOI Photodetector Cell

        A new silicon-on-insulator (SOI) photodetector was proposed to implement a specific frequency response. The photodetector consists of a photodiode or phototransistor. As an example, a oating body SOI NMOS phototransistor was fabricated by using 1.5-m CMOS technology. The electrical and the optical properties of the transistor were measured and characterized. It was found that a 350-nm-thick n+ polysilicon gate in a phototransistor could filter out optical signals with wavelengths less than 450 nm by absorbing the signals. Gate and drain biases for reasonable operation of the SOI NMOS phototransistor were 0 V to the threshold voltage of the MOSFET and less than about 1.5 V, respectively.

        심화되어 가는 현대사회 속에서 인간성의 획일화와 더불어 개인주의적 풍토가 만연화되어 가는 이 시 점에 사람들은 자신의 이익을 위한 상호공격적인 성향을 드러내고 있다. 반면, 그 공격성에 의한 필요이상의 충격방지대 책을 취하고 있는 것이 오늘날 현실세계를 살아가 는 인간이 공통적인 행동양식이 아닐까. 나는이러한 필요이상의 방어수단, 자위적 조치 (Defensive Measure)를 표현함으로서, 기계가 지배하는 현대사회 안에서 인간성이 물질화되어 가는 이 시대에 대한 새로운 시각을 제시하고자 한다. In the complicated present society, personal characters are getting standardized. Also, people show their aggression toward others to keep their interests. On the other hands, they make their own defensive measure to protect themselves and their interests. Sometimes, it hurts them because it is strong too much. I think this is the way people do in the contemporary society. Through expressing defensive measure more than needs, I am trying to criticize this age in which people replace humanity with material value.
