      • Hormone Use is Associated with Lymphovascular Invasion in Breast Cancer

Loof-Johanson, Margaretha,Brudin, Lars,Sundquist, Marie,Rudebeck, Carl Edvard Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.3

Background: Risk of developing breast cancer increases with short breastfeeding and the use of hormones. The prognosis of breast cancer is better if the tumours are hormone receptor positive. Since breast feeding affects estrogen and progesterone receptors, we wanted to investigate how such reproductive factors as breastfeeding and the use of hormones interact with known prognostic markers and specific tumour characteristics in women with breast cancer. Materials and Methods: A total of 250 women treated for breast cancer from a larger cohort completed a questionnaire on breastfeeding, number and age at births and use of hormones. A logistic regression analysis was made to search for connections between known prognostic markers on the one hand (type of cancer, grade, tumor size, estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor, lymphovascular invasion and DNA-ploidy) and reproductive data, breastfeeding, and hormone use on the other. Results and Conclusions: Hormone use, but not breastfeeding, was significantly associated, also on multivariate analysis, with the prognostic variable lymphovascular invasion, connected to a worse prognosis. No other hormone use or breast feeding correlations with prognostic variables were found.

Recent Insights from the International Common-Cause Failure Data Exchange Project

Albert Kreuser,Gunnar Johanson 한국원자력학회 2017 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.49 No.2

Common-cause failure (CCF) events can significantly impact the availability of safety systems of nuclear power plants. For this reason, the International Common Cause Data Exchange (ICDE) project was initiated by several countries in 1994. Since 1997 it has been operated within the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)/ Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) framework and has successfully been operated over six consecutive terms (the current term being 2015-2017). The ICDE project allows multiple countries to collaborate and exchange CCF data to enhance the quality of risk analyses, which include CCF modeling. As CCF events are typically rare, most countries do not experience enough CCF events to perform meaningful analyses. Data combined from several countries, however, have yielded sufficient data for more rigorous analyses. The ICDE project has meanwhile published 11 reports on the collection and analysis of CCF events of specific component types (centrifugal pumps, emergency diesel generators, motor operated valves, safety and relief valves, check valves, circuit breakers, level measurement, control rod drive assemblies, and heat exchangers) and two topical reports. This paper presents recent activities and lessons learnt from the data collection and the results of topical analysis on emergency diesel generator CCF impacting entire exposed population.

Institutional work and accountability in public–private partnerships

        Ville-Pekka Sorsa,Jan-Erik Johanson 한국행정학회 2014 International Review of Public Administration Vol.19 No.2

The large-scale emergence of public–private partnerships (PPPs) has drawn attention to the mechanisms of accountability in PPPs. However, there has been little research yet on how the institutional logics of the mechanisms are instituted, and there is stilllittle knowledge on the role of accountability in the governance of PPPs. The purposeof this article is to develop a theoretical framework for studying the institutional logics of accountability in PPPs by including institutional work projects in an analysis. The theoretical framework is applied in a single case analysis of the Finnish public–private pension system TyEL. The case study reveals accountability gaps and changes previous understanding of the role of public accountability in governance of PPPs.

      • THE ROLE OF ORGANIZATIONAL AGILITY IN DIGITAL INNOVATION: A RELATIONAL PERSPECTIVE

        Sabrina Thornton,Desir?e Holm,Martin Johanson,David S?rhammar 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07

The unbounded nature of digital innovation requires innovating firms to be agile in the way they manage the processes, governance and outcomes in order to sense and seize the market directly and timely. This study adopts an inter-organizational approach and asks to what extent and in what way does organizational agility impact on innovation performance? This perspective underscores the interdependencies between collaborating partners, which creates a relationship regulating system of workflow to drive value creation in the process of innovation. While the literature has offered a broad conceptual argument for organizational agility in the context of digital innovation, the mechanisms through which value is transformed in the innovation process is still unclear. We contend that an agile innovation process stands on four main cornerstones: (1) joint strategic planning, (2) joint problem solving, (3) joint improvisation and (4) community (market) sensing. The empirical research is set in the video game industry, which is in a largely digitalized and borderless business environment. The data was collected through an interviewer-administered questionnaire. The sampling frame is based on a Swedish trade association database. Usable sample is 113. We performed structural equation modelling to test the hypothesized model, including main and moderation effects, using Mplus. The findings show that while only improvisation has a significantly positive effect on innovation performance, the role of strategic planning and problem solving between two collaborating partners remains unclear. For example, strategic planning has shown to be a negative influence in our empirical research. Problem solving has no effect on innovation performance, but it interacts with community sensing and subsequently facilitates innovation outcome. This highlights the importance of community sensing, which could offer rich, crucial knowledge and resources for problem solving that proves to be effective. The results provide further theoretical arguments for understanding organizational agility and digital innovation, but also raise further questions for future research.

Vol.17 No.3

This study explores the market entry process of a latecomer firm. It outlines a dynamic business-network model of foreign market entry and internationalization. Compared with received internationalization process theory it moves focus from unilateral experiential learning and foreign market commitment to bilateral learning and commitments in business relationships between supplier and customer firms. It also assumes that the firm, when developing a business relationship, becomes involved in a wider business network. The study presents an in-depth case study of Samsung Electronics` entry into the British market. The case study considers three areas of learning and commitment: geographical cover of the market, organization functions committed to the market and number and importance of products supplied in the market. It shows also the role of business relationships in the development of the three areas. The case demonstrates that in Samsung`s successful, rapid British market entry learning, and in particular, business network learning, plays an important role. It also indicates that commitments are gradual.
