Self-Perceived English Competence, Self-Esteem, and Interpersonal Relations in Cabin Crew Personnel
Jiyu Min,Seung-Ryul Lee 한국영어어문교육학회 2013 영어어문교육 Vol.19 No.4
The purpose of this study is to examine the level of self-perceived English competence of Korean cabin crew personnel working for national or foreign airlines, and to determine whether its level influences their self-esteem with respect to their job duties and interpersonal relations with foreign colleagues and customers within their organization. The data was collected from 243 cabin crew personnel, 143 personnel in a national airline and 100 personnel in foreign airline, by means of a survey questionnaire. They are variant from 20's to 40's in ages, less than 1 year to over 20 years in work experience, and stewardess to senior purer in their position. The findings reveal that cabin crew personnel in the foreign airline have a higher level of self-perceived English competence than those who work for the national airline, and thus the former, cabin crew members working for the foreign airline, tend to be higher than those in the national airline in terms of self-esteem and interpersonal relations as members within an organization. The study uncovers the implication that English competence plays an important role in enhancing the selfesteem and interpersonal relations for cabin crew personnel. These are significant components for contributing to teamwork and carrying out job duties successfully.
Approximate ML Detection with the Best Channel Matrix Selection for MIMO Systems
Jiyu Jin,Seong-Cheol Kim,Yongwan Park 대한전기학회 2008 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.3 No.2
In this paper, a best channel matrix selection scheme (BCMS) is proposed to approximate maximum likelihood (ML) detection for a multiple-input multiple-output system. For a one stage BCMS scheme, one of the transmitted symbols is selected to perform ML detection and the other symbols are detected by zero forcing (ZF). To increase the diversity of the symbols that are detected by ZF, multi-stage BCMS detection scheme is used to further improve the system performance. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed BCMS scheme can approach that of ML detection with a significant reduction in complexity.

Chemotherapy is the main strategy for inhibiting the tumor growth. However, during the therapy, the side effect of anti-cancer drug will injure normal cells. For reducing the toxic of the free drug, stimuli responsive nanoparticles (NPs) have been prepared base on the pathological acidic environment around tumor for safe and efficient anti-tumor applications. In this study, we fabricated the phenylboronic acid (PBA) modified monomethoxy polyethylene glycol (MEPG) for encapsulating doxorubicin (DOX NPs). In the drug delivery system (DDS), the pH-responsive boric ester could be stable during drug delivery, and enhance DOX rapidly release in tumor lesion under the acidic stimuli. In vitro studies further demonstrated that DOX NPs could efficiently endocytose by tumor cells, and exhibit the similar anti-tumor activity as the free DOX resulting from the pH-responsive drug release profiles under tumor acidic stimuli. In summary, DOX NPs could be a feasible candidate to improve the safe and efficient DOX delivery for improving the potential anti-tumor applications.
Behavior of steel-concrete jacketed corrosion-damaged RC columns subjected to eccentric load
Jiyue Hu,Hong-Jun Liang,Yi-Yan Lu 국제구조공학회 2018 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.29 No.6
Corrosion of steel reinforcement is a principal cause of deterioration of RC columns. Making these corrosion-damaged columns conform to new safety regulations and functions is a tremendous technological challenge. This study presented an experimental investigation on steel-concrete jacketed corrosion-damaged RC columns. The influences of steel jacket thickness and concrete strength on the enhancement performance of the strengthened specimens were investigated. The results showed that the use of steel-concrete jacketing is efficient since the stub strengthened columns behaved in a more ductile manner. Moreover, the ultimate strength of the corrosion-damaged RC columns is increased by an average of 5.3 times, and the ductility is also significantly improved by the strengthening method. The bearing capacity of the strengthening columns increases with the steel tube thickness increasing, and the strengthening concrete strength has a positive impact on both bearing capacity, whereas a negative influence on the ductility. Subsequently, a numerical model was developed to predict the behavior of the retrofitted columns. The model takes into account corrosion-damage of steel rebar and confining enhancement supplied by the steel tube. Comparative results with the experimental results indicated that the developed numerical model is an effective simulation. Based on extensive verified numerical studies, a design equation was proposed and found to predict well the ultimate eccentric strength of the strengthened columns.
Magnetic properties and enhanced thermoelectric performance in Cu-doped Ca3Co2O6 single crystals

The effect of Cu doping on the structural, magnetic, electrical and thermal transport properties of Ca3Co2- xCuxO6 single crystals has been investigated systematically. Based on the analysis of the structural parameter and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy spectra, the valence state of Cu is considered to be þ2. All samples undergo a long-range spin density wave (SDW) transition at TN and a glass-like magnetic transition at Tf with decreasing temperature. Both TN and Tf decrease monotonously with increasing Cudoping content. A series of magnetization steps can be observed in the M(H) curve of Ca3Co2O6, and the magnetization steps are sensitive to the sample cooling magnetic field and Cu doping content x. With the increase of x, the resistivity along c-axis decreases while the thermopower increases. As a result, the figure of merit (ZT) increases considerably and the room-temperature ZT value of the sample with x ¼ 0.6 is nearly 60 times larger than that of the un-doped crystal.

A complete switch in the Cp*Ir(III)-catalyzed paths between C-H olefination and hydroarylation was found to be crucially dependent on the type of directing groups. This dichotomy in product distribution was correlated to the efficiency in attaining syn-coplanarity of olefin-inserted 7-membered iridacycles. Theoretical studies support our hypothesis that the degree of flexibility of this key intermediate modulates the beta-H elimination, which ultimately affords the observed chemoselectivity.

In this paper, we report the development of an optical sensor network (OSN) based on piezoelectrically actuated corner cube retroreflectors (PA-CCRs). PA-CCRs were fabricated by microelectromechanical systems processes and assembled by aligning horizontally actuated mirrors and vertical side walls in a holder, which allows mass production. Fabricated PA-CCRs showed a tilting angle by more than 1.5 deg at 5 V bias voltage. A 3 dB cutoff frequency was measured to be in the range of 3.5 kHz. To show the feasilbility, an OSN was established based on fabricated PA-CCRs for on-off keying passive transmission links. The results demonstrated data transmission at a rate up to 5 kb/s.
