Making the Posthuman: Unmaking the Humanity
( Kim¸ Jin Kyung ) 동국대학교 영어권문화연구소 2019 영어권문화연구 Vol.12 No.2
The purpose of this paper is to interrogate the possibility of the posthuman as a concept that can transcend the limits of the universal humanities. The concept of the posthuman in the context of philosophical and sociopolitical discourses is examined for its implication which is not confined to the meaning of the technological improvement of the human body, but extends to the concept that helps to overcome many prejudices and discriminations in the societies. At the advent of the machines with superintelligence, the need of redefining the human arises with spreading anxiety over the humanness. Rosi Braidotti and N. Katherine Hayles investigate the concept of the posthuman to give answers to various questions concerning the formation of the posthuman. Both Hayles and Braidotti explicate the concept of the posthuman based on the materiality which Spinoza and Descartes provide the foundational thoughts. The concept of the human entails being alive with the biological body and mental ability to perceive the environment. Such a notion was conceived and developed within the western philosophical canon, and still occupies a position in defining the human consciousness in contrast with the consciousness of the artificial intelligence. What I portray in this essay is not to reiterate the conventional notions around the posthuman, but to argue that the real interest of the posthuman studies lies in questioning how the concept of the human can be reconceived in making the posthuman.
BLIND DIGITAL VIDEO WATERMARKING USING AVERAGE MAGNITUDE MODULUS OF SUBBANDS

This paper proposes the blind watermarking algorithm for digital video using average magnitude modulus in wavelet transform. After calculating average magnitude modulus (MAG) in wavelet transform for each frame, the proposed algorithm embeds the watermark using analysis and comparing with target modulus and neighboring modulus in 2-level sub bands. Experimental results were confirmed that the proposed algorithm satisfies the condition of the invisibility and the robustness for digital videos.

Single spins are widely regarded as a leading candidate for realizing next-generation quantum devices for sensing and quantum information processing. Detection and coherent control of single spins require to localize single spins and characterize its magnetic surroundings. Scanning tunneling microscopy in combination with electron spin resonance (ESR-STM) technique [1] enables a direct access to the quantum states of single magnetic atoms or molecules on surfaces. Using ESR-STM, we investigated spin resonance of hydrogenated Ti (TiH) atoms adsorbed on bridge binding site of MgO in a two-dimensional vector magnetic field. Here, the spin 1/2 TiH atom with no magnetic anisotropy was employed as a probe of magnetic environments at the tunnel junction. We found both ESR frequency and amplitude change as a function of the angle of vector magnetic fields. The resonance frequency varied by different vector magnetic fields indicates an anisotropy of the g-factor, resulting from the variation of angular momentum contributions due to the crystal fields. We developed a stereoscopic way to unravel the g-factor along the three principal axes. Moreover, ESR amplitude dependence on the direction of magnetic fields provides the further understanding of ESR mechanisms, which results from two factors, tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) effect at the spin-polarized STM junction and the transverse magnetic field to drive ESR. Our results will enable to predict ESR active spin centers on different substrates as well as in other quantum-nanoscience platforms.
Video Watermarking Based on Wavelet Magnitude Modulus Subband
Jinkyung Byun,Young-Deuk Moon,Suk-Hwan Lee,Seong-Geun Kwon,Ki-Ryong Kwon 한국멀티미디어학회 2007 멀티미디어학회논문지 Vol.10 No.6
This paper proposes the blind watermarking algorithm for digital video based on magnitude modulus subband in wavelet transform domain. After transforming each of frames into wavelet domain, the proposed algorithm divides LH, HL, and HH subbands of 2-level into 3×3 blocks and calculates average magnitude modulus of all blocks. Then the watermark bit is embedded into a target magnitude modulus comparing with an average magnitude modulus within a block. Experimental results were confirmed that the proposed algorithm has the good robustness against MPEG and frame attacks than the conventional algorithm.

[Purpose] To investigate the effect of treadmill running on D2R deficiency related susceptibility to high fat diet (HFD )-induced obesity and its metabolic complications. [Methods] D2R-/- and +/- mice were obtained by backcrossing D2R+/- heterozygotes on wild type (WT) littermates (C57BL/6J background) for >10 generations. Mice were randomly assigned to 1) WT mice with standard chow (SC) (WT+SC); 2) WT mice with highfat diet (WT+HFD); 3) WT mice with high-fat diet plus exercise (WT+HFD+EX), 4) heterozygous (HET) D2R mice with SC (HET+SC); 5) heterozygous D2R mice with HFD (HET+HFD); and 6) heterozygous D2R mice with HFD plus exercise (HET+HFD+EX). In addition, mice assigned to EX groups were subjected to running on a motor-driven rodent treadmill with a frequency of 5 days per week. [Results] After a 10-week HFD treatment, HET D2R (+/- ) mice exhibited significantly higher values for hepatic steatosis (p<0.001), areas under the curves (AUCs) for the glucose tolerance test (GTT) and the insulin tolerance test (ITT) (p<0.001 & p<0.001 respectively), serum leptin (p=0.005) and total cholesterol (TC ) (p=0.009), in conjunction with decreased locomotor activity (p=0.031), compared to HET mice exposed to standard chow. However, these HFD-induced elevations in hepatic steatosis (p<0.001), AUCs for GTT and ITT (p=0.032 & p=0.018, respectively), serum leptin (p=0.038) and TC (p=0.038) were significantly alleviated after 10 weeks of treadmill running. [Conclusion] The current findings of the study provide experimental evidence of treadmill running as an effective and non-pharmacologic strategy to treat the susceptibility of brain D2R deficiency to HFD-induced obesity and metabolic disorders.
