        Ameliorative effect of <i>Alnus japonica</i> ethanol extract on colitis through the inhibition of inflammatory responses and attenuation of intestinal barrier disruption <i>in vivo</i> and <i>in vitro</i>

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract caused by high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and epithelial barrier dysfunction. <I>Alnus japonica</I> Steud. (Betulaceae) has been used in traditional Asian medicine. However, the potential of <I>A. japonica</I> for the treatment of intestinal inflammation has not been investigated. This study investigated the effects of ethanol extract from <I>A. japonica</I> bark (AJE) on colonic mucosa injury in mice with dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis. Treatment with AJE ameliorated pathological damage and the histopathologic features of DSS-induced colitis. The administration of AJE also inhibits DSS-induced pro-inflammatory cytokines expression, including interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2. Notably, AJE administration attenuated the reduction of tight junction proteins, zonula occludens (ZO)-1 and occludin, in DSS-induced colitis. In addition, AJE increased heme oxygenase (HO)-1 expression and prevented DSS-induced apoptosis in colonic epithelial cells. Furthermore, <I>in vitro</I> studies demonstrated that AJE inhibits TNF-α-induced IL-8, IL-1β, and COX-2 expression in human intestinal epithelial HT-29 cells and <I>tert</I>-butyl hydroperoxide-induced reduction of ZO-1 and occludin expression in human intestinal epithelial Caco-2 cells. AJE-induced HO-1 protein expression was also found in both HT-29 and Caco-2 cells. Taken together, our findings demonstrated that AJE inhibits intestinal inflammation and protects against intestinal barrier disruption in mice with DSS-induced colitis <I>in vivo</I> and human intestinal epithelial cells <I>in vitro</I>.         Fused deposition (FD) modeling by Stratasys Inc., is one of the material deposition subfamilies of solid freeform fabrication (SFF) technologies. In this process, build material in the form of a flexible filament, is heated to a semi-liquid state and extruded from a controlled deposition head onto a fixtureless table in a temperature controlled environment. The position of nozzle is computer controlled relative to the base, which allows geometric complex models to be made to precise dimensions. FDM provide what the part was directly tested by the worker. It provide believable data. This Study is identify to surface roughness by build orientation adjustment. So, the paper is the study on surface roughness by build orientation at FDM.

      • Azithromycin으로 치료한 임신 중 쓰쓰가무시병 1예

        We report a case of tsutsugamushi disease in a 26 year-old pregnant woman who was treated with azithromycin. Her gestation period was 27 weeks and she admitted with fever, rash, and eschar on the right shoulder. Currently recommended medications for the treatment of scrub typhus are doxycycline or chloramphenicol. But, these drugs are class D drugs according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Fetal Risk Summary, so they couldn't be used to treat pregnant women. Recently, a few case reports suggested that azithromycin, a relatively new macrolide antibiotic, was effective and safe for the treatment of scrub typhus in pregnant women. And, there is no evidence that azithromycin causes harmful effects to the developing fetus or to children. On the basis of current in vivo test that confirms the effectiveness of azithromycin, it may be the drug of choice for the treatment of scrub typhus in pregnant women and children.         키넥트 센서를 이용한 고령자 대상의 선자세 균형능력 평가

        Portable low-cost Kinect sensor was used to analyze standing balance ability of the elderly. Eighty subjects who can walk alone and have a normal cognitive level participated in this experiment. Based on Berg Balance scale (BBS) test with 52 points, subjects were divided into Healthy older (HO: 46 persons, BBS: 53.80 ± 1.19) and Impaired older (IO: 34 persons, BBS: 49.06 ± 2.03) group. Each subject performed 30 seconds four different standing balance tests (EO: Eyes Open, EC: Eyes Close, EOf: Eyes Open on foam, ECf: Eyes Close on foam). Five variables (Mean distance, Range of distance, Root mean square, Mean velocity, 95% ellipse area) were calculated from the hip joint center movement of Kinect sensor. Results showed that there were significant differences between groups for four different standing tests. Calculated variables from kinect sensor showed significant correlation with BBS score. Especially, mediolateral mean distance, mediolateral root mean square, mediolateral range of distance and 95% ellipse area showed discriminative ability for all tests. Mean values of variables of IO were higher than those of HO, which means the decreased balance ability in IO compared with HO. Therefore, it was possible to estimate simple balance assessment of the elderly using portable low-cost Kinect sensor.

        ORiginal Article : Gastroprotective Effects of PMK-S005 against Ethanol-Induced Acute Gastric Damage in Rats

        Background/Aims: This study aimed to examine the gastroprotective effects of PMK-S005, which is a synthetic S-allyl-Lcysteine (SAC; a sulfur-containing amino acid), against acute ethanol-induced gastric damage in rats. Methods: Sprague- Dawley rats were divided into six groups, including a nonethanol group, groups treated with absolute ethanol 1 hour after pretreatment with various doses of PMK-S005 (1, 5, and 10 mg/kg) or rebamipide (50 mg/kg), and an absolute ethanolonly group. Ethanol-induced gross ulcer and mucus levels were measured. Myeloperoxidase, tumor necrosis factor a, interleukin 1β, PGE2, LTB4, cPLA2, COX-1, and COX-2 levels were estimated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay or Western blot analysis. Furthermore, the protein expression levels of antioxidant enzymes, including heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), NAD(P)H:quinine oxidoreductase 1 (NQO-1), GCLC, and GCLM, were assessed. Results: PMK-S005 significantly attenuated the ethanol-induced gastric damage; it reduced mucosal inflammatory cytokine production and increased mucus levels. The expression levels of cPLA2, COX-1, and COX-2 were decreased by PMK-S005. PMK-S005 did not affect PGE2 synthesis, but LTB4 production was significantly suppressed. In addition, long-term administration of PMKS005 significantly increased the expression of HO-1, NQO-1, GCLC, and GCLM. Conclusions: These results strongly suggest that PMK-S005 prevents gastric mucosal damage and that these gastroprotective activities are due to anti-inflammatory effects and enhancement of the gastric defense system, including antioxidant enzymes.       • 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 구형 마이크로스트립 안테나 설계

        This paper presents how to optimize rectangular microstrip antennas using genetic algorithms. Genetic algorithms are global numerical-optimization methods. patterned after the natural processes of genetic recombination and evolution. Rectangular microstrip antennas is analyzed by all parameters of the improved transmission-line model. The algorithms encode each parameter which is the width. length and thickness of the patch, the width of the feed line and the thickness of the dielectric into binary sequences, called a gen. and a set of genes is a chromosome. These chromosome undergo genetic operators to arrive at the final optimal solution for the design of rectangular microstrip antennas. Genetic algorithms determine the parameters of rectangular microstrip antennas to yield the maximum antenna gains. Simulation results obtain antenna gains of 5.3dB. The genetic algorithm proves to be better than general algorithms

      • Candida magnoliae에 의한 에리스리톨 생산 최적화

        Culture conditions and nitrogen sources were optimized for production of erythritol, a natural sweetener, by Candida magnoliae M26. The optimal culture conditions were found to be culture temperature of 28 ℃, initial pH of 7, aeration of 1 vvm and agitation speed of 500 rpm in a 2.5 ℓ jar-fermentor. Glucose was chosen as the best carbon source based on cell growth and erythritol productivity. Light steep water (LSW) and corn steep liquor (CSL) which are by-products in starch processing from corn were tested as a nitrogen source substitute for yeast extract. The use of either LSW or CSL did not change the fermentation performance. The experimental results using LSW and CSL showed 1.5 times higher in cell growth and almost the same value in erythritol productivity compared with the control fermentation using yeast extract as a nitrogen source. These results suggested that either LSW or CSL could be used as a nitrogen source in a large-scale fermentation for erythritol production.

        The purpose of this study were to find the actual condition of the co-operative group farming in Korea, and to improve the low income Saemaul villages by the adoption of good points in co-operative Group farming. There were so many co-operative farmings in Korea, but all of them were not so successful, Eight co-operative group farmings were chosen to investigate for the above purposes. (Table 1). The tendency of agricultural income was not always true. First of all, Co-op Poultry farm did not follow the order of agricultural income. Because there was an excellent leader who had eliminated the circulation expenses in process of the purchase of feeds and the sale of eggs in common, Second, Seachiodong flower were devived into two parts the cultural flower and the sale flower. The cultural flower meant mainly producing flowers and the sale flower mainly selling flowers to downtown shops in Seoul. The income per householder of the cultual flower was less than that of the sale flower. Consequently, sucessful Co-operative Group farmings had an able leader, and performed production and sale more reasonablly.
