        Synthesis and Characterization of Fe-Co/mesoHZSM-5 : Effect of Desilication Agent and Iron-cobalt Composition

        Synthesis of Fe-Co/meso-HZSM5 catalyst, intended to be applied in Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reaction was investigated. The study emphasized the effect of desilication agents, NaOH and KOH, on the catalyst materials properties. Impregnation composition of active metal (Fe and Co) was also examined. HZSM-5, converted from ammonium ZSM-5 through calcination, was treated with NaOH and KOH for desilication, followed by impregnation with 10% metal loading. Fe composition in the initial mixture was varied at 10-50% from total composition. After impregnation, reduction was applied by flowing hydrogen gas at 400 oC for 10 hours. The use of KOH solution induced greater mesoporous volumes; however, it had a detrimental effect on zeolite crystal structure. NaOH solutions, on the other hand, increased mesopore area as high as 100%, indicated from surface area increase from 266.28 m2/g of HZSM-5, to 526.03 m2/g of NaOHdesilicated HZSM-5. In addition, the application of NaOH solution increased pore volume from 0.14 cc/g to 0.486 cc/g. Further, more Fe-Co alloys and less oxide of iron (Fe2O3) as well cobalt (Co3O4) had been commonly observed in the produced catalysts. The largest Fe-Co alloys could be found in 50Fe-50Co/HZSM-5.

        Outcomes of Including Fracture Level in Short- Segment Fixation for Th oracolumbar Fracture Dislocation

        Study Design: This was a prospective study of 50 patients of thoracolumbar fracture dislocation treated at a single institution with short-segment fixation with the inclusion of fracture level. Purpose: To assess the outcomes of including the fracture level in short-segment fixation for thoracolumbar fracture dislocation. Overview of Literature: Traditionally, thoracolumbar fracture dislocation is treated with long-segment posterior fixation. However, to save motion segments, short-segment fixation has been used instead in many cases of thoracolumbar trauma. Methods: In this study, 50 patients with thoracolumbar fracture dislocation were treated with short-segment fixation with inclusion of the fracture level; patients with pathological fractures or with a McCormack load-sharing score >6 were excluded. The 50 patients were prospectively followed for at least 1 year. The duration of surgery, blood loss, and complications were noted. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score was used to measure pain, and the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) scale was used to determine the neurological status at follow-up. Preoperative, immediate postoperative, and final follow-up X-rays were used to measure the kyphotic angle using Cobb’s method. Results: The mean age of our patients was 33.4 years, and the male:female ratio was 1.9:1. The mean follow-up period was 18.4 months (range, 12–23 months). Injuries were mainly at the thoracolumbar junction area (T11–L2, 41 cases, 82%). The average duration of surgery was 94.6 minutes, and the average blood loss was 394.8 mL. Postoperative infection occurred in two cases and implant failure in one case. The kyphosis angle values were as follows: average preoperative, 26.80°±14.50°; immediate postoperative, 4.30°±8.70°; and final follow-up, 5.50°±110°. The ASIA scale and VAS score at final follow-up showed improvement. Conclusions: Inclusion of the fracture level in short-segment fixation for thoracolumbar fracture dislocation (McCormack load-sharing score ≤6) gives good kyphosis correction and correction maintenance. It can also obviate the need for traditional long-segment fixation.

        Biosynthesis of PHB from a New Isolated Bacillus megaterium Strain: Outlook on Future Developments with Endospore Forming Bacteria

        Diverse Bacillus strains are known as producers of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) under nutrient-limiting conditions. However, these limiting conditions have the same nutritional characteristics that stimulate spore generation in Gram-positive microorganisms. In the present work, a new isolated Bacillus megaterium strain was characterized based on 16S rRNA gene sequences (1,411bp) and studied in terms of its ability for producing polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) by implementing different fermentation configurations on formulated media. The isolated strain was able to produce PHB up to 59 and 60% of its dry cell weight during bioreactor experiments employing glucose and glycerol as carbon source, respectively. The produced biopolymer was characterized and identified by using carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR)and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) techniques. In spite of the sporulation phenomenon existing in Bacillus strains,obtained results demonstrate that the new isolated strain has the potential of accumulating high levels of intracellular PHB. Supported by these experimental results and by those reported by other authors, the last section of this paper gives an outlook of future research topics on PHB and polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) copolymers production by Gram-positive bacteria. The importance of combining bioprocessing/biorefinering concepts with bioreactor optimization approaches is stressed and analyzed based on current PHAs research trends.

        Rotorcraft Comprehensive Analysis Calculations of a Coaxial Rotor with Lift Offset

        This paper presents comparisons of rotor performance, blade pitch, rotor hub loads, and blade clearance between two sets of rotorcraft comprehensive analysis calculations and experimentally measured test data for a coaxial rotor system in forward flight conditions. The calculations are from the U.S. Army’s Rotorcraft Comprehensive Analysis System (RCAS) with one set calculated using a prescribed vortex wake model and another set calculated by coupling RCAS to a viscous vortex particle method. For rotor performance and blade pitch, the calculations and test data are presented as functions of lift offset for four different advance ratios and for two different test upper rotor collective pitch settings. Rotor hub loads and blade clearance are compared on a time-varying basis for test points that form a lift offset sweep, an advance ratio sweep, and a rotor-to-rotor phase sweep. The main conclusion is that both sets of calculations generally reflect the same trends as the test data, which provides confidence in the ability of RCAS at calculating the aeromechanics behaviors of lift-offset coaxial rotors.

        사회협약이 노동시장 이슈에 미치는 영향은 무엇인가? 사회협약은 아일랜드 경제가 180도 전환하는 데 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 사회협약이 가진 주요 내용은 임금인상 요구의 자제였다. 아일랜드의 임금협상 조정이 가지는 주요한 특징은 아일랜드의 임금을 조정하는 데 사용된 메커니즘이 전통적인 조합주의적(corporatist) 메커니즘과 상당한 유사점을 가지고 있지만 경제적 기능은 상당히 상이했다는 것이다. 아일랜드의 사회협약이 가지는 임금기능의 주요 요소는 시장을 통제하기 위해 상당한 공공지출을 한 스칸디나비아의 시스템과는 대조적으로 아일랜드의 경우 임금협상을 경제성장 추세와 함께 고려하려고 시도했다는 점이다. 아일랜드의 시스템이 시장에 적응해 나가는 유형이기 때문에 사회협약이 평등성을 가져올 수 있는 능력은 감소하였다. 대부분의 유럽국가들에서 불평등의 정도는 점점 확대되어 가고 있다. 스칸디나비아 조합주의적 임금협상의 주된 특징은 공공부문에서의 고용을 통해 부와 직업을 나누어주는 분배적 메커니즘이었다. 이러한 재분배적 요소는 민간부문의 고용을 창출하는 조건을 만들어 내는 데 중점을 둔 아일랜드에서 살펴볼 수 있는 주요한 특징은 아니었다. 민간부문의 직업창출을 중점적으로 추진함으로써 아일랜드 정부는 대규모의 공공지출을 약속하지 않아도 되었고, 따라서 안정적인 거시경제적 판로를 따를 수 있었다. 마지막으로 복지조항은 아일랜드의 사회협약이 주로 중점적으로 고려한 사항이 아니었다. 사실상 노동조합, 고용주, 정부의 최우선순위 사항은 복지의 확대가 아니라 가처분 소득을 늘릴 수 있는 소득세제 개혁이었다.

        Export-Import Value Nowcasting Procedure Using Big Data-AIS and Machine Learning Techniques

        Purpose: This study aims to investigate whether AIS data can be used as a supporting indicator or as an initial signal to describe Indonesia's export-import conditions in real-time. Research design, data, and methodology: This study performs several stages of data selection to obtain indicators from AIS that truly reflect export-import activities in Indonesia. Also, investigate the potential of AIS indicators in producing forecasts of the value and volume of Indonesian export-import using conventional statistical methods and machine learning techniques. Results: The six preprocessing stages defined in this study filtered AIS data from 661.8 million messages to 73.5 million messages. Seven predictors were formed from the selected AIS data. The AIS indicator can be used to provide an initial signal about Indonesia's import-export activities. Each export or import activity has its own predictor. Conventional statistical methods and machine learning techniques have the same ability both in forecasting Indonesia's exports and imports. Conclusions: Big data AIS can be used as a supporting indicator as a signal of the condition of export-import values in Indonesia. The right method of building indicators can make the data valuable for the performance of the forecasting model.
