Zi geese (Anser anser domestica) belong to the white geese and are excellent layers with a superior feed-to-egg conversion ratio. Quantitative gene expression analysis, such as Real-time qRT-PCR, will provide a good understanding of ovarian function during egg-laying and consequently improve egg production. However, we still don't know what reference genes in geese, which show stable expression, should be used for such quantitative analysis. In order to reveal such reference genes, the stability of seven genes were tested in five tissues of Zi geese. Methodology/Principal Findings: The relative transcription levels of genes encoding hypoxanthine guanine phosphoribosyl transferase 1 (HPRT1), ${\beta}$-actin (ACTB), ${\beta}$-tubulin (TUB), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate-dehydrogenase (GADPH), succinate dehydrogenase flavoprotein (SDH), 28S rRNA (28S) and 18S rRNA (18S) have been quantified in heart, liver, kidney, muscle and ovary in Zi geese respectively at different developmental stages (1 d, 2, 4, 6 and 8 months). The expression stability of these genes was analyzed using geNorm, NormFinder and BestKeeper software. Conclusions: The expression of 28S in heart, GAPDH in liver and ovary, ACTB in kidney and HPRT1 in muscle are the most stable genes as identified by the three different analysis methods. Thus, these genes are recommended for use as candidate reference genes to compare mRNA transcription in various developmental stages of geese.

Clostridium difficile, which causes pseudomembranous colitis, releases toxin A and toxin B. These toxins are considered to be the main causative agents for the disease pathogenesis, and their expression is associated with a marked increase of apoptosis in mucosal epithelial cells. Colonic epithelial cells are believed to form a physical barrier between the lumen and the submucosa, and abnormally increased mucosal epithelial cell apoptosis is considered to be an initial step in gut inflammation responses. Therefore, one approach to treating pseudomembranous colitis would be to develop agents that block the mucosal epithelial cell apoptosis caused by toxin A, thus restoring barrier function and curing inflammatory responses in the gut. We recently isolated an antimicrobial peptide, Periplanetasin-2 (Peri-2, YPCKLNLKLGKVPFH) from the American cockroach, whose extracts have shown great potential for clinical use. Here, we assessed whether Peri-2 could inhibit the cell toxicity and inflammation caused by C. difficile toxin A. Indeed, in human colonocyte HT29 cells, Peri-2 inhibited the toxin A-induced decrease in cell proliferation and ameliorated the cell apoptosis induced by this toxin. Moreover, in the toxin A-induced mouse enteritis model, Peri-2 blocked the mucosal disruption and inflammatory response caused by toxin A. These results suggest that the American cockroach peptide Peri-2 could be a possible drug candidate for addressing the pseudomembranous colitis caused by C. difficile toxin A.
Visual lock-on to invisible target for unmanned aerial vehicle
Jihong Min,Jungho Kim,Yekeun Jung,In So Kweon IET 2012 Electronics letters Vol.48 No.14
<P>Presented is a robust visual lock-on framework for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that utilises geometric relations between the UAV pose and the 3D local map defined by the positions of the target and natural landmarks. Experimental results using real datasets demonstrate the robustness of the proposed method compared to state-of-the-art visual tracking methods.</P>

Background: Arthroscopic surgical repair is a better intervention than non-operative (conservative) treatment for patients with shoulder dislocations. This systematic review determined the numbers-needed-to-treat (NNT) and relative risk reduction (RRR) associated with arthroscopic surgical repair versus non-operative treatment in reducing recurrence rates among patients with first-time traumatic anterior shoulder dislocations. Methods: We searched Google Scholar, MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus, and CINAHL from inception in 2015. All articles had to compare arthroscopic surgical repair and non-operative treatment and be written in English. We used the total number of subjects and the number of recurrent dislocations within each treatment to calculate the NNT and RRR for each study and the pooled data. Results: Six articles were selected and all clearly demonstrated that the arthroscopic surgical repair was more effective than non-operative treatment in reducing the recurrence episodes. The pooled NNT was 1.76 (95% confidence interval [CI]=NNT to benefit 1.50–2.13) and the pooled RRR was 86.0% (95% CI=77.0%–92.0%) among individuals who underwent arthroscopic repair. The average follow-up time was 56 months. Conclusions: A Strength of Recommendation Taxonomy level of evidence of 1 with a grade A recommendation supports the use of arthroscopic surgical repair over non-operative treatment in prevention of first-time traumatic anterior shoulder dislocations. We suggest that sports medicine practitioners consider the patients’ age, occupation, and physical activity level when making a clinical decision.
Vision-based metric topological SLAM
Jihong Min,Jungho Kim,In So Kweon,Yong Woon Park 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10
In this paper, we present a vision-based metric/topological approach for the Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) problem. Similar to recent works on metric/topological SLAM (MT SLAM) where the map is represented as a graph whose nodes are submaps and edges are relative transformations between submaps, we propose a graphical model for vision-based MT SLAM that estimates the hybrid robot pose and the map by using Bayesian filtering. We also propose a motion estimation method that incorporates the uncertainties of 3D landmarks to improve the accuracy of motion estimation and apply this method to our SLAM approach. We demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach using a stereo camera.
A Form-Finding Method of Beam String Structures - Offload by Steps Method
Jihong Ye,Ruo-qiang Feng,Xianbo Zhao,Bin Liu 한국강구조학회 2012 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.12 No.2
The problem of form-finding of beam string structures was studied, and the method named offload by steps was put forward in accordance with the properties of the mechanical status of the structures. This method was used to find the form of the unstrained state on the basis of the pre-stressed state without the need to assume the unstrained form first. Numerical simulations and experimental research on the form-finding of beam string structures were carried out to verify the offload by steps method and, more importantly, to study the application of the method in engineering practice. The scale of the experimental model was 1/20, and the stretching pattern was the same as that in practical engineering. Comparisons of internal forces and deformations corresponding to unstrained and pre-stressed states of the model were made between experimental and calculation results. The following conclusions were drawn. First, the offload by steps method can be applied to the engineering practice without assuming the form of the unstrained state, and the form of the unstrained state corresponding to that of the pre-stressed state can be obtained directly. Second, the internal forces of the beam string structures in their pre-stressed states can be obtained easily by using the statically-determinate calculation model in the offload by steps method, which can guide design effectively. Third, the method for estimating the cable tension by balancing the deadweight of the beam string truss can be applied to engineering practice.

In this paper we prove global existence and uniqueness of axisymmetric strong solutions for the three dimensional electro-hydrodyna\-mic model based on the coupled Navier--Stokes--Poisson--Nernst--Planck system in the exterior of a cylinder. The key ingredient is that we use the axisymmetry of functions to derive the $L^{p}$ interpolation inequalities, which allows us to establish all kinds of a priori estimates for the velocity field and charged particles via several cancellation laws.
