Goldman Sachs recently laid off 598 top talents, while Google and NASA established a singularity university. As we enter the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, each company and university is nurturing talent for the age of artificial intelligence(AI). As factories and various facilities are automated and AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) enter homes and businesses, interest in automation is gradually increasing, and AI robots are replacing human jobs. Therefore, a study was conducted on the implementation of a sorting robot for smart factory automation. The hardware of the robot was realized using TETRIX, and it was configured to recognize the color of blocks and classify the object using NXT color sensors. The color sensor is used to determine the type of a block and a linetracer is to help figure out location, and the block was placed in the right place. The control program was implemented using LabVIEW, and the NXT was implemented to control the robot through the signal obtained from the color sensor.
Inelastic Out-of-plane Design of Parabolic Arches
Jiho Moon 한국철도학회 2015 International Journal of Railway Vol.8 No.2
In this paper, improved out-of-plane design of parabolic arches was proposed based on the current design code. The arches resist general loading by a combination of axial compression and bending actions, and the interaction formula between two extreme cases of axial and bending actions is generally used for the design. Firstly, the out-of-plane buckling strength of arches in a pure axial compression and a pure bending were studied. Then, out-of-plane design of parabolic aches under general transverse loading was investigated. From the results, it can be found that the proposed design equations provided good prediction of out-of-plane strength for parabolic arches which satisfy the thresholds for deep arches, while proposed design equations overestimated the buckling load of shallow arches

This research paper focuses on the development of the Stirling-type pulse tube refrigerator (PTR) system. The system includes an innovative cold compression concept by introducing a superconducting linear compressor (SCLC). As one of the key goals of this research, the working gas (helium) is to be compressed directly at cryogenic temperature. The mechanical work (pressure-volume (PV) work) can be directly transmitted to the PTR system without experiencing precooling process. The unique feature of this paper is to utilize a high-temperature superconductor (HTS) coil instead of using metallic conductor coil for a linear motor. By implementing a HTS linear motor to the cold compressor, the ohmic loss can be inherently eliminated, so that the higher motor efficiency can be expected. In this research paper, the experimental validation as a proof of concept is carried out. The HTS linear motor operates at 50 Hz without creating overheat problem. The SCLC stably generates the PV work at the temperature of liquid nitrogen and it is subsequently transmitted to the compression volume of the PTR. The whole PTR system, therefore, can readily operate between 80 and 20 K with the cooling capacity of 0.26 W.

This study shows systematic and empirical findings of the determinants of foreign direct investment in case of Korea, which has experienced various political, social, and economic phenomena. This study especially investigates the determinants of U.S. foreign direct investment flows in Korea before the country was democratized. Six variables of political instability: They inclide riots (protest demonstration); labor strikes; external threat; data from domestic violence; assassination; and coup d’etat. They are categorized with regard to the data from the the Far Eastern Economic Review weekly magazine(1977 to 1991). This study finds that there is no significant relationship between political instability and FDI flows in Korea, unless the political instability is severe enough to affect the FDI policy and economic conditions, which was the case of 1980. Although investors normally say that political instability is important to their investment decisions, their actions do not confirm this. In making their decision, we found economic conditions and economic policy matters more in the case of Korea.
The Characteristic Modes and Structures of Bluff-Body Stabilized Flames in Supersonic Coflow Air
Jiho Kim,Youngbin Yoon,Chul Woung Park,Jae Won Hahn 한국항공우주학회 2012 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.13 No.3
The stability and structure of bluff-body stabilized hydrogen flames were investigated numerically and experimentally. The velocity of coflowing air was varied from subsonic velocity to a supersonic velocity of Mach 1.8. OH PLIF images and Schlieren images were used for analysis. Flame regimes were used to classify the characteristic flame modes according to the variation of the fuel-air velocity ratio, into jet-like flame, central-jet-dominated flame, and recirculation zone flame. Stability curves were drawn to find the blowout regimes and to show the improvement in flame stability with increasing lip thickness of the fuel tube, which acts as a bluff-body. These curves collapse to a single line when the blowout curves are normalized by the size of the bluff-body. The variation of flame length with the increase in air flow rate was also investigated. In the subsonic coflow condition, the flame length decreased significantly, but in the supersonic coflow condition, the flame length increased slowly and finally reached a near-constant value. This phenomenon is attributed to the air-entrainment of subsonic flow and the compressibility effect of supersonic flow. The closed-tip recirculation zone flames in supersonic coflow had a reacting core in the partially premixed zone, where the fuel jet lost its momentum due to the high-pressure zone and followed the recirculation zone; this behavior resulted in the long characteristic time for the fuel-air mixing.
