      • A FREE BREATHING IMPEDANCE RHEOGRAM APPARATUS MADE OF MICROPROCESSOR

        The impedance rheogram is a modern non-invasive method used to observe the disease of each part of the body such as heart, liver and lung etc. Because of the breathing interference effect, the patients have to hold their breathing when they are being tested by conventional impedance rheogram apparatus. It is not convenient to observe those patients who are difficult to cooperate with doctor such as children and poor-function-heart patients. Therefore, we have developed the free breathing impedance rheogram apparatus by using microprocessor, it can effectively eliminate the interference of the breathing to impedance rheogram, so that patients can be tested in the free breathing. By this way, it can not only much improve measuring accuracy, and also extend clinical service extant. The digital filtering system that we have developed by using microprocessor is used for automatically tracking variation of rhythm of the heart by specific program and filtering interference of the breathing by in-phase superposing-averaging the impendance signal of the lung in free breathing. The present artical introduces the hardware structure and main technical targets of the free breathing impedance rheogram apparatus, and provides application results for grown-up healthful persons and the patients having heart or lung problems in clinical service. The results show that the effect filtering interference of the breathing to impedance rheogram is very obvious. This technique can be used In impedance rheogram of heart and liver etc, and lays down a foundation for developing monitor in clinical service. In addition, it can also be used in studying of sport-medicine and space-medicine. This result has gotten United States Patent on Jun. 25,1991.

        Measurement and Analysis of Exhaust Noise from Muffler on an Excavator

        Through analyzing the harm of the exhaust noise from the excavator, this paper illuminated the importance of the noise measurement and analysis work,. According to some correlative measurement standards, using some instruments in hand, a set of exhaust noise measurement system especially for the excavator was designed. The exhaust engine noise from an excavator produced by a construction machinery corporation was measured and analyzed, and then, seven mufflers with different structures were designed. After analyzing the frequency spectrums of seven impedance mufflers of different structures respectively, we selected the muffler j which was of best noise elimination performance among the seven mufflers. The highest noise elimination of muffler j was up to 16.3dB, which could reduce the exhaust noise from the excavator in a larger degree. At last, we analyzed the structures and corresponding effects of noise elimination for the seven mufflers and made some important conclusions.

        Toward harmonious East-West educational partnerships: a study of cultural differences between Taiwanese and Norwegian engineering students

        The collaboration activities between educational institutions in the East and the West are on the increase as an increasingly globalized economy requires graduates to have the skills to work across cultural divides. Such collaborations are difficult and require patience. One challenge is that students or teachers may have misconceptions about aspects of the other culture that may cause problems. This study sets out to identify what values students in typical Eastern and Western societies associate with a good student, good student behavior, good teachers and good lectures with the purpose to identify discrepancies. This study is based on the results of a pair-wise ranking questionnaire completed by 233 Taiwanese and Norwegian students of both engineering and non-technical subjects. The results confirm some established beliefs regarding culturally related differences. However, several issues were found to be culturally neutral, and cultural differences were identified for several issues that were predicted to be culturally neutral. The results of this study may be useful to educators involved in East-West internationalization.

        Long-term Stable Field Electron Transfer from Carbon Nanotube Arrays at High Emission Current Densities

        The stability behaviors of multiwalled carbon nanotube arrays during field electron emission are studied. The results indicate that the stability, even at a high emission current density, has been greatly improved by an aging process, and a degradation of about 0.66% in the emission current density at 21.86 mA/cm_2 during a 10-hour stability test has been obtained. A detailed analysis of the deterioration of the field electron emission characteristics is given, and the generation of Joule heat during field emission is found to be able to burn off the extruded carbon nanotubes, which will directly reduce the number of emission sites. On the other hand, the Joule heating effect may induce an annealing of the defects existing in the carbon nanotubes and may influence the distribution of electron energy states, both having a bad influence on the field emission characteristics. An aging process, especially aging at high emission current densities, can greatly reduce the influence of Jouleheating induced current degradation. Hence, an aging process at high emission current densities provides an effective way to realize long-term stable field electron emission from carbon nanotube arrays.

        A New Triterpenoid from Brucea javanica

        A new triterpenoid, bruceajavanin C (1), together with bruceosides A and B (2 and 3), bruceines D and E (4 and 5), yadanziosides A and G (6 and 7), (20R)-O-(3)-α-L-arabinopyranosylpregn- 5-ene-3β,20-diol (8), and α-D-glucopyranoside, (3β, 20R)-3-hydroxypregn-5-en-20-yl (9) were isolated from the aerial parts of Brucea javanica. The structure of 1 was elucidated on the basis of 2D-NMR spectroscopic analysis. In addition, compounds 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 exhibited mild inhibitory effect on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells.

        Interactions of xanthate with pyrite and galena surfaces in the presence and absence of oxygen

        In this study, first-principles calculations were performed to investigate the interactions of hydrogenxanthate (HOCS₂-) with pyrite (1 0 0) and galena (1 0 0) surfaces. The calculation results suggest thatstrong chemisorption of HOCS₂- occurs at Fe sites on the pyrite (1 0 0) surface, whereas its interaction atPb sites on the galena (1 0 0) surface is weak. The interaction of xanthate with oxidized pyrite surface isweakened while the interaction of xanthate with oxidized galena surface is enhanced. The hydration ofxanthate and mineral surfaces is discussed. Dixanthogen could be formed on the pyrite surface but noton the galena surface.

        Gibberellin and auxin signals control scape cell elongation and proliferation in Agapanthus praecox ssp. Orientalis

        Plant height is determined by the processes of cell proliferation and elongation. Plant hormones play key roles in a species-dependent manner in these processes. We used paclobutrazol (PAC) at 400 mg·L-1 in this study to spray Agapanthus praecox ssp. orientalis plants in order to induce dwarf scape (inflorescence stem). Morphological examination showed that PAC reduced scape height by inhibiting the cell elongation by 54.56% and reducing cell proliferation by 10.45% compared to the control. Quantification and immunolocalization of endogenous gibberellins (GAs) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) showed that the GA1, GA3, and GA4 levels and the IAA gradient were reduced. Among these hormones, GA4 was the key component of GAs, which decreased 59.51-92.01% compared to the control in scape. The expression of cell wall synthesis related genes cellulose synthase (CESA) and UDP-glucuronic acid decarboxylase (UXS) were upregulated significantly, whereas cell wall loosening gene xyloglucan endotransglucosylase 2 (XET2) was downregulated by 99.99% surprisingly. Correlation analysis suggested GA regulated cell elongation and auxin modulated cell proliferation in Agapanthus scape. Additionally, the accumulation of sugars played roles in cell wall synthesis and cell expansion. These results indicated GA and IAA signals triggered a downstream signaling cascade, controlled cell expansion and proliferation during scape elongation.

        Robust Control of Discrete-time Singular Markovian Jump Systems with Partly Unknown Transition Probabilities by Static Output Feedback

        This paper considers the robust control of discrete-time uncertain singular Markovian jump systems with partially unknown transition probabilities by static output feedback. Based on a necessary and sufficient condition of the stochastic stability with partially unknown transition probabilities of the unforced systems, some sufficient conditions are obtained to design of a static output feedback controller and a robust static output feedback controller, which guarantee that the closed-loop systems are piecewise regular, causal and stochastically stable by employing the linear matrix inequality technique. Finally, some examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

        通過對中、美、日動劃電影主要創作風格的歸納, 對三國主要的藝術特質及其表現風格從案例出發比較, 發現彼此都離不開自己的傳統繪劃藝術、審美習慣與思維方式, 演化出自己獨特的動劃電影藝術形式;美國重寫實藝術表現和對新科技的開發利用、日本重傳統繪劃藝術與故事漫劃的表現, 商業方面, 他們依托本國和全球娛樂市場多樣性的不同需要, 滿足了不同市場的需要, 開發出不同的商業模式: 內容方面, 弘揚普世價値的善惡觀和滿足個人主義的英雄觀, 開發出多樣性的商業、藝術動劃電影영得了全世界不同觀衆的喜愛. 對照美日兩國看中國, 50-80年代是基于社會主義意識形態需要考量來創作動劃電影, 雖然80年代改革開放後, 基本回歸到從娛樂市場和觀衆多樣性需要出發去創作, 但後果還是影響到今天的中國動劃電影, 導致創作動力和原創人才的中斷, 多樣性創新風格和商業市場運作機制的缺失. 日本從美國模式始終조到了自己的定位與成功, 今天的中國需要從美、日模式中조到自己的創作風格與定位, 需要從政府管理模式、行業規範、國際化人才培養與積累等多方面系統化梳理才是根本. Through the comparative analysisand inductive research on main creation styles of Chinese, American and Japanese animation films, a conclusion can be given out, which means that the animation film style of each country can hardly be formed without their own traditional painting art, aesthetics habits and ways of thinking. It is these characteristics that form their unique animation film style. America emphasizes realism art, development and utilization of new technology, Japan pays sepcial attention totraditional painting art and comic stories. In business aspect, they bring about different business models relying on the experience of satisfying the diverse needs of domestic and global entertainment markets. When it comes to the content field, they carry forward universal values and meet the individualistic heroismso that a variety of business animation films and art animation films find their ways into the global market and acquire great popularity among audiences from all over the world. Through the comparasion of American and Japanese animation films, a new view to analyze the animation films of China is created. Animation creation is largely based on the need of socialist ideology from 50s to 80s. Even though the purposes of animation film creations returned to satisfying the diverse requirements of commercial markets and audiences, the consequences, such as the break gap of creations and talents, the lack of diverse creative styles and commercial market operation mechanism, sitll affect China`s animation films today. Japan found thier position from the American model and became successful. Nowadays, China need find our own creative style and position from American model and Japanese model. And the systematic reformings that are detailed in the government managements, industry standards, internationalized talents cultivation and accumulation are the essential point.
