Enhanced Catalytic Ability of Candida rugosa Lipase Immobilized on Pore-enlarged Hollow Silica Microspheres and Cross-linked by Modified Dextran in Both Aqueous and Non-aqueous Phases

Candida rugosa lipase (CRL) is one of the most widely used lipases. To enhance the catalytic abilities of CRL in both aqueous and non-aqueous phases, hollow silica microspheres (HSMSs) with a pore size of 18.07 nm were used as an immobilization support, and aldehydecontaining dextrans were employed to further cross-link the adsorbed CRL. In the experimental ranges examined,the loading amount of lipase linearly increased to 171 ±3.4 mgprotein/gsupport with the CRL concentration and all the adsorption equilibriums were reached within 30 min. After simple cross-linking, the tolerance to pH 4.0 ~ 8.0 as well as the thermal stability of immobilized CRL at 40 ~ 80oC were both substantially increased, and 82 ± 2.1% activity remaining after the sixth reuse. The immobilized CRL was successfully applied to the resolution of racemic ibuprofen in non-aqueous phase. The initial reaction rate increased by 1.4- and 3.6-fold compared with the rates of adsorbed and native lipases, respectively. Furthermore, the R-ibuprofen was obtained at ee > 93%, and the enantiomeric ratio reached E > 140 at the conversion of 50 ± 1.5% within 48 h.

싱가포르에서 스포츠는 언제나 교육이나 직업개발 같은 중요한 문제들에 비해 관심 밖으로 여겨져 왔다. 열악한 지원과 부족한 관심으로 인해 스포츠 전문화를 추구하고 최고로 만들기까지는 힘든 노력이 필요한 현실에, 싱가포르에서는 메달획득을 위한 빠른 해결책으로 외국선수들을 귀화시키는 방법을 선택하였다. 그러나, 싱가포르에서는 메달획득과 자국민의 자존심 사이에서 발생하는 문제가운데 외국선수들을 기용시킴에 대한 끝없는 논쟁이 계속 되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 특별히 싱가포르 여자농구 스포츠분야에서의 외국선수들의 기용의 모순에 대해 알아보고자 함에 있다. 문헌고찰과 자료분석이 본 연구에서 사용되었고 다양한 소스를 통해 수집된 데이터는 연구의 개념과 목적에 맞춰 컴퓨터 프로세스를 거쳤다. 결과에서는 지난 수년간 외국 선수들의 필요성에 대한 과대평가가 있었으며 습득에서의 실패들을 강조하고 있다. 본 연구는 챔피언의 위치로 가는 길은 메달을 따내는 선수들에만 국한된 것이 아니라 스포츠와 공생하고 숨쉬는 나라의 구조에 달려있으며 스포츠를 격려하는 문화가 그 길을 유지하는 가장 중요한 요소라 결론짓고 있다. Sports have always been an alternative to other undertakings such as education and career development in Singapore. It takes years of hard work and thousands of hours to be top-notch and with the lack of support and commitment from the society to pursue sports professionally, importing foreign-born athletes becomes a quick solution to inserting Singapore on the map in winning medals. However, there seems to be an endless debate over the use of foreign-born athletes in Singapore, the purpose and effectiveness of these foreign-born athletes and the disputes between winning the medal and the pride behind the win. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the inconsistencies of importing foreign-born, specifically in the Singapore Women`s basketball sporting scene. Literature reviews and content analysis was used in this study and the data collected from the various sources undergoes a computational process to allow the concepts and themes to emerge from the data. Results shows that there seems to be a brawl with the foreign sports talent scheme over the years, highlighting the overemphasis in the need of foreign-born athletes and the loopholes and failures in acquisition. This study concluded that the path to championship is more than just producing medal-winning athletes, it is the construction of a nation that lives and breathes sports so that the identification of the sporting talent comes more easily, the culture that encourages sports is the key for sustainability.

In the age of Internet, the data transmission and storage got rapid progress, however, data processing and information extraction is still exist many problems to solve. Under the condition of so much data, processing data, get useful information; In cloud computing, big data environment to adopt the method of distributed computing, such a large complex networks, however, requires a simulation environment, for comparison and optimization platform, it can save development costs. Hadoop can evaluate the performance of distributed cloud computing platform, so the Hadoop performance directly affects the evaluation on the performance of the big data cloud computing, which fully show the importance of performance of Hadoop. Algorithm is improved based on Hadoop platform, using the particle swarm optimization algorithm improved the calculation and implementation of the Hadoop platform, so as to improve its ability to execute and compute, the calculation results and analysis show that the proposed scheme is effective.

The Optimal Screw Length of Lumbar Pedicle Screws during Minimally Invasive Surgery Fixation: A Computed Tomography-Guided Evaluation of 771 Screws

Study Design: A retrospective study of radiographic parameters of patients who underwent lumbar spinal pedicle screw insertion. Purpose: The optimal length of pedicle screws is often determined by the lateral radiograph during minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Compared with open techniques, measuring the precise length of screws or assessing the cortical breach is challenging. This study aims to ascertain the optimal pedicle screw lengths on intraoperative lateral radiographs for L1–L5. Overview of Literature: Research has revealed that optimal pedicle screw length is essential to optimize fixation, especially in osteoporotic patients; however, it must be balanced against unintentional breach of the anterior cortex, risking injury to adjacent neurovascular structures as demonstrated by case reports. Methods: We reviewed intra- and postoperative computed tomography scans of 225 patients who underwent lumbar pedicle screw insertion to ascertain which of the inserted screws were ‘optimal screws.’ The corresponding lengths of these screws were analyzed on postoperative lateral radiographs to ascertain the ideal position that a screw should attain (expressed as a percentage of the entire vertebral body length). Results: We reviewed 880 screws of which 771 were optimal screws. We noted a decreasing trend in average optimal percentages of insertion into the vertebral body for pedicle screws going from L1 (average=87.60%) to L5 (average=78.87%). The subgroup analysis revealed that there was an increasing percentage of screws directed in a straight trajectory from L1 to L5, compared to a medially directed trajectory. Conclusions: During MIS pedicle screw fixation, this study recommends that pedicle screws should not exceed 85% of the vertebral body length on the lateral view for L1, 80% for L2–L4, and 75% for L5; this will minimize the risk of anterior cortical breach yet maximize pedicle screw purchase for fixation stability.

Effects of Using Picture Books on Reading Self- Perception Among Year Two Pupils at A Nationaltype Chinese Primary School

Pupils who feel good about their reading abilities tend to perform better in school. Research has shown that picture books will contribute to pupils taking the initiative to read. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of picture books on reading self-perception among Year Two pupils at a National-type Chinese Primary School in Hulu Selangor. This study employed a quasi-experimental research with pre-test and post-test designs that involved 75 pupils and four picture books, namely, No David, Swimmy, Next Please, and The Dot. This study utilised the Reader Self-Perception Scale (RSPS) that consisted of 33 items and four scales (Progress, Observational Comparison, Social Feedback, and Physiological States). The collected data were analysed using SPSS version 24. The descriptive results indicated an increase in the Mean and Standard deviation scores for reading self-perception levels in the experimental group. A significant difference was observed in the scores between the control group and the experimental group following the intervention. The study subjects from the experimental group had enhanced their self-perception in reading compared to the control group. This study has shed greater light on the application of picture books in the classroom to boost pupils’ reading engagement. The results in this study can be used as a guide by pupils, teachers, and parents to enhance pupils’ reading self-efficacy levels, especially at the National-type Chinese Primary Schools.

Schisandrol A and gomisin N from Schisandra chinensis extract improve hypogonadism via anti-oxidative stress in TM3 Leydig cells

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Male hypogonadism is a condition where the body does not produce enough testosterone and significantly impacts health. Age, obesity, genetics, and oxidative stress are some physiological factors that may contribute to testosterone deficiency. Previous studies have shown many pharmacological benefits of Schisandra chinensis (S. chinensis) Baillon as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. However, the molecular mechanism of attenuating hypogonadism is yet to be well established. This research was undertaken to study the effects of S. chinensis extract (SCE) on testosterone deficiency. MATERIALS/METHODS: S. chinensis fruit was pulverized and extracted using 60% aqueous ethanol. HPLC analysis was performed to analyze and quantify the lignans of the SCE. RESULTS: The 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) scavenging assays confirmed that the SCE and its major lignans (schisandrol A and gomisin N) inhibit oxidative stress. Effects of SCE analysis on the testosterone level under oxidative stress conditions revealed that both schisandrol A and gomisin N were able to recover the lowered testosterone levels. Through mRNA expression of TM3 Leydig cell, we observed that the SCE lignans were able to induce the enzymes involved in testosterone biosynthesis-related genes such as 3β-HSD4 (P < 0.01 for SCE, and P < 0.001 for schisandrol A and gomisin N), 17β-HSD3 (P < 0.001 for SCE, schisandrol A and gomisin N), and 17, 20-desmolase (P < 0.01 for schisandrol A, and P < 0.001 for SCE and gomisin N). CONCLUSIONS: These results support that SCE and its active components could be potential therapeutic agents for regulating and increasing testosterone production.

Adsorptive Granulocyte and Monocyte Apheresis in the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis: The First Multicenter Study in China

Background/Aims: Patients with active ulcerative colitis (UC) have elevated levels of activated myeloid-derived leukocytes as a source of inflammatory cytokines. The selective deple-tion of these leukocytes by adsorptive granulocyte/monocyte apheresis (GMA) with an Adacolumn should alleviate inflammation, promote remission and enhance drug efficacy. However, studies have reported contrasting efficacy out-comes based on patients` baseline demographic variables. This study was undertaken to understand the demographic features of GMA responders and nonresponders. Methods: This was a multicenter study in China involving four institutions and 34 patients with active UC. Baseline conventional medications were continued without changing the dosage. The treatment efficacy was evaluated based on the endo-scopic activity index and the Mayo score. Results: Thirty of the 34 patients completed all 10 GMA treatment sessions. The overall efficacy rate was 70.59%. The receiver operating characteristic analysis showed that the area under the curve was approximately 0.766 for a Mayo score of ≤5.5 with 0.273 specificity and 0.857 sensitivity (Youden index, 0.584) for GMA responders. No GMA-related serious adverse events were observed. Conclusions: The overall efficacy of GMA in patients with active UC who were taking first-line medications or were corticosteroid refractory was encouraging. Addition-ally, GMA was well tolerated and had a good safety profile. (Gut Liver 2017;11:216-225)
