      • A "Dynamic Form-Finding" Approach to Environmental-Performance Building Design

        Newly-designed high-rise buildings, both in China and abroad, have demonstrated new innovations from the creative concept to the creative method. from the creative concept to the creative method. At the same time, digital technology has enabled more design freedom in the vertical dimension. "Twisting" has gradually become the morphological choice of many city landmark buildings in recent years. The form seems more likely to be driven by the interaction of aesthetics and structural engineering. Environmental performance is often a secondary consideration; it is typically not simulated until the evaluation phase. Based on the research results of "DigitalFUTURE Shanghai 2017 Workshop - Wind Tunnel Visualization", an approach that can be employed by architects to design environmental-performance buildings during the early stages has been explored. The integration of a dynamic form-finding approach (DFFA) and programming transforms the complex relationship between architecture and environment into a dialogue of computer language and dynamic models. It allows the design to focus on the relationship between morphology and the surrounding environment, and is not limited to the envelope form itself. This new concept of DFFA in this research consists of three elements: 1) architectural form; 2) integration of wind tunnel and dynamic models; and 3) environmental response. The concept of wind tunnel testing integrated with a dynamic model fundamentally abandons the functional definition of the traditional static environment simulation analysis. Instead it is driven by integral environmental performance as the basic starting point of morphological generation.

        Microwave Assisted Synthesis of Graphene-Bi2MoO6 Nanocomposite as Sono-Photocatalyst

        In this investigation, Bi2MoO6 deposited graphene nanocomposite (BMG) was synthesized using a simple microwave assisted hydrothermal synthesis method. The synthesized BMG nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis, and photocurrent analysis. The study revealed that the catalysts prepared have high crystalline nature, enhanced light responsive property, high catalytic activity, and good stability. XRD results of BMG composite exhibit a koechlinite phase of Bi2MoO6. The surface property is shown by SEM and TEM, which confirmed a homogenous composition in the bulk particles of Bi2MoO6 and nanosheets of graphene. The catalytic behavior was investigated by the decomposition of Rhodamine B as a standard dye. The results exhibit excellent yields of product derivatives at mild conditions under ultrasonic/visible light-medium. Approximately 1.6-times-enhanced sono-photocatalytic activity was observed by introduction of Bi2MoO6 on graphene nanosheet compared with control sample P25 during 50 min test.

        Low Specific On-resistance SOI LDMOS Device with P<SUP>+</SUP>P-top Layer in the Drift Region

        In this paper, a novel low specific onresistance SOI LDMOS Device with P<SUP>+</SUP>P-top layer in the drift region is proposed and investigated using a two dimensional device simulator, MEDICI. The structure is characterized by a heavily-doped P<SUP>+</SUP> region which is connected to the P-top layer in the drift region. The P<SUP>+</SUP> region can modulates the surface electric field profile, increases the drift doping concentration and reduces the sensitivity of the breakdown voltage on the geometry parameters. Compared to the conventional D-RESURF device, a 25.8% decrease in specific on-resistance and a 48.2% increase in figure of merit can be obtained in the novel device. Furthermore, the novel P<SUP>+</SUP>P-top device also present cost efficiency due to the fact that the P<SUP>+</SUP> region can be fabricated together with the P-type body contact region without any additional mask.

      • Case-Control Study of Diet in Patients with Cervical Cancer or Precancerosis in Wufeng, a High Incidence Region in China

        Purpose: To investigate the diet of patients with cervical cancer and precancerosis in the Wufeng area, a high-incidence region in China. Methods: In the case group, 104 patients diagnosed with cervical cancer or cervical intraepithelial neoplasias (CINII/III) were recruited from the Wufeng area. Nine hundred thirty-six healthy women were selected from the same area as the matched controls. A questionnaire, which included questions about general lifestyle conditions, smoking and alcohol status, source of drinking water, green tea intake, and diet in the past year, was presented to all participants. Results: Green tea intake (P=0.022, OR=0.551, 95% CI=0.330-0.919) and vegetable intake (P=0.035, OR=0.896, 95% CI=0.809-0.993) were identified as protective factors against cervical cancer or CINII/III. There was no indication of any associations of other lifestyle factors (smoking status, alcohol status, source of drinking water) or diet (intake of fruit, meat/egg/milk, soybean food, onion/garlic, staple food and pickled food) with cervical cancer. Conclusions: The results suggest that eating more fresh vegetables and drinking more green tea may help to reduce the risk of cervical cancer or CINII/III in people of the Wufeng area.

        신예독립패션디자이너 We Media 이용 동기 연구 -중국 상해 패션디자이너를 중심으로-

        중국 패션관련 비즈니스에서 We Media를 새로운 마케팅 채널로서 적극적으로 활용하고 있다. 그러나 미디어 이용 동기 측면에서 보면, 패션명품 브랜드나 일반 사용자의 이용 동기에 초점을 맞추고 있을 뿐, We Media의 미디어 활동이 활발한 신예독립패션 디자이너들에(emerging independent fashion designer, EIFD) 대해서는 연구가 진행되지 않았다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 신예독립패션을 별도의 We Media 사용자 그룹으로 분류하여 We Media 이용 동기를 연구하고자 하였다. 연구방법은 다음과 같다. 먼저, We Media 사용 이유에 대한 질문지를 작성하고, 상황에 따라 유연하게 적용할 수 있는 반구조화된 인터뷰 방법을 적용하였다. 참여자들은 17명의 패션디자이너들이었으며, 조사결과 21개의 We Media 사용 이유를 추출하였다. 다음으로, 25명의 패션디자이너들에게(EIFD) 동의를 진행하여 평균값이 낮은 1개를 제외하고 20 개의 사용 이유를 정리하였다. 마지막으로, 3명의 디자인·미디어분야 PhD과정 연구자들에게 열거된 사용 이유들을 유사한 개념으로 카드소팅(Card Sorting) 하도록 하였다. 이 과정을 통해, EIFD의 We Media 사용 동기로 6가지 요인으로 분류할 수 있었으며, 각각의 각 요인을 자기노출, 창작, 수집, 경쟁심, 고객육성, 브랜드 노출이라고 명명하였다. 다음으로, 이 결과를 선행 연구에서 정리한 일반인, 패션 인플루언서, 패션 기업들의 We Media 이용 동기들과 비교하는데, EIFD와 일반인들과 비교했을 때, 수집, 자기노출, 창작, 수집, 경쟁심 요인이 유사하였다. 패션인플우언서와 비교했을 때 자기노출, 고객 육성, 브랜드 노출 요인이 유사하였고, 패션기업들과 비교했을 때 고객 육성, 브랜드 노출 요인이 유사하였다. 이는 EIFD가 일반인들과 같은 개인적 차원의 동기 요인 뿐 만 아니라 패션기업과 같은 사회적 차원의 동기 요인을 동시에 가지고 있음을 보여주고 있다. We Media, as a new marketing operation channel, its commercial attributes have become increasingly prominent in nowadays fashion businesses in China. However, from the perspective of media use motivations, the research most focuses on the We Media use motivations of fashion luxury brands and the general public, while emerging independent fashion designer (EIFD) with high activeness in We Media have received little concern. Therefore, the research attempted to treat EIFDs as the uncommon We Media users for studying their We Media use motivations. The research methods are as follows. Firstly, based on the questions designed for We Media use motivations, the semi-structured interview was conducted. According to the interview results of 17 EIFDs, 21 We Media use motivations were extracted. Then, through 25 EIFDs’ reconfirmation of these motivations, 20 of them were distilled excluding one with low mean value. Further, 3 PhD researchers whose major are communication science were asked to card-sort the 20 motivations with the similar concept. A total of 6 We Media use motivations of EIFDs are derived, namely, Self-Disclosure, Creation, Collection, Competition, Customer Cultivation, and Brand Exposure. Finally, comparing them with the general public, fashion influencer, and fashion enterprise's We Media use motivations summarized in the literature review, it appears that the EIFD’s motivations of self-exposure, creation, collection, and competition are similar to the general public, while self-exposure, customer cultivation and brand exposure are similar to the fashion influencer. Meanwhile, EIFD’s and fashion enterprises obtain the similar motivations of customer cultivation and brand exposure. Hereby, EIFD’s We Media motivations do not only obtain the individual attributes like public, but also gain the social characteristics such as fashion enterprises.

        중국의 세계문화유산 현황과 미래

        현재 UNESCO에 등재된 중국의 세계유산은 모두 37곳으로, 이탈리아와 스페인에 이어 세계에서 세 번째로 많다. 유구한 역사와 수려한 자연풍광으로 인해 중국은 이처럼 많은 세계유산을 가지게 되었는데, 1985년 UNESCO의 `세계문화와 자연유산 보호를 위한 협약`의 성원국이 된 이후 세계문화유산 등재 신청 및 보호관리를 국가적 차원에서 지원해왔다. 즉 國家文物局은 전문 부서를 설립하여 각 지방정부의 세계유산 등재 관련 사업을 체계적으로 지원했으며, 나아가 관련 법률의 제정에도 적극성을 보였다. 대표적인 사례가 殷墟이다. 은허는 商나라 晩期의 도성 유지로서 이미 중국에서는 1961년부터 중점적으로 보호되었는데, 2001년부터 세계문화유산 등재를 위한 노력이 시도되었다. 중국 국가문물국, 河南省, 안양시 등 행정부문과 중국사회과학원 고고연구소 등의 학술단체가 함께 참여하여 유지의 발굴에서 보호·전시까지 여러 부문에서 훌륭한 성과를 거두었고, 마침내 2006년 세계문화유산으로 등재되었다. 그러나 이와 같은 은허의 성공적인 사례에도 불구하고 급속한 경제발전에 따라 문물보호관리 사업은 많은 허점을 드러냈다. 특히 중국 일부 지방에서는 경제적 이익을 더욱 중시함으로써 `세계문화유산 등재 신청은 중시하나 관리는 소홀히 하는` 현상을 야기했다. 이로 인해 문화유산과 주변 환경의 파괴가 진행되는 등 중국의 세계문화유산 관리시스템에 허점이 드러나기도 했다. 이에 중국 정부는 법률 및 조례의 제정, 보호시스템 정비, 과학적 연구의 추진, 보호자금의 투입, 전문인력의 양성 등 다방면에서 세계유산 관리를 위한 노력을 경주하고 있다. 특히 각국의 세계유산 등재 신청에 대한 제한이 결정된 2002년 부다페스트 선언 이후 이에 맞는 전략적 조정을 시도하고 있다. As of now, as many as 37 places in China are placed on UNESCO`s World Heritage List, putting China in third place after Italia and Spain. Thanks to its long history and scenic spots, China has become a nation that has such a large number of world heritage sites. It has provided support at the national level to have its places designated as world heritage sites and to preserve them in good conditions, since its ratification of the “UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage” in 1985. That is, Chinese State Administration of Cultural Heritage established a specialized department to systematically support each local government`s project to have its places included in the World Heritage List and aggressively involved itself in the establishment of related law. A representative example is Yin Xu. Yin Xu, the capital of Shang Dynasty during its maturity period, has been specially preserved since 1961 in China, and efforts have been made to make it designated as a world heritage site since 2001. Administrative bodies, such as Chinese State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Henan Province and Anyang City, and academic organization like Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences worked together to excavate, protect and exhibit relics from Yin Xu, achieving outstanding performance, and finally in 2006, Yin Xu was added to the World Heritage list. In spite of this successful case of Yin Xu, China`s heritage preservation management project revealed lots of loopholes when it began to develop its economy at the rapid pace. Especially some provinces in China valued economic benefits more than anything else and thus neglected preserving cultural sites, though they made efforts to put their cultural sites on the World heritage List. As a result, part of their cultural heritage and nearby areas have been damaged, revealing loopholes in China`s system of managing world cultural heritage. The Chinese government is making various efforts for world heritage management, such as establishing law and ordinance, maintaining the preservation system, investing preservation fund and cultivating professional human resources. Especially after 2002 Budapest Declaration that decides limitations to each nation`s bid to win designation as world heritage, it has attempted a strategic adjustment.

        Efficiently targeted therapy of glioblastoma xenograft via multifunctional biomimetic nanodrugs

        Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a fatal malignant primary brain tumor in adults. The therapeutic efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs is limited due to the blood-brain barrier (BBB), poor drug targeting, and short biological half-lives. Multifunctional biomimetic nanodrugs have great potential to overcome these limitations of chemotherapeutic drugs. Methods: We synthesized and characterized a biomimetic nanodrug CMS/PEG-DOX-M. The CMS/PEG-DOX-M effectively and rapidly released DOX in U87 MG cells. Cell proliferation and apoptosis assays were examined by the MTT and TUNEL assays. The penetration of nanodrugs through the BBB and anti-tumor efficacy were investigated in the orthotopic glioblastoma xenograft models. Results: We showed that CMS/PEG-DOX-M inhibited cell proliferation of U87 MG cells and effectively induced cell apoptosis of U87 MG cells. Intracranial antitumor experiments showed that free DOX hardly penetrated the BBB, but CMS/PEG-DOX-M effectively reached the orthotopic ntracranial tumor through the BBB and significantly inhibited tumor growth. Immunofluorescence staining of orthotopic tumor tissue sections confirmed that nanodrugs promoted apoptosis of tumor cells. This study developed a multimodal nanodrug treatment system with the enhanced abilities of tumor-targeting, BBB penetration, and cancer-specific accumulation of chemotherapeutic drugs by combining chemotherapy and photothermal therapy. It can be used as a flexible and effective GBM treatment system and it may also be used for the treatment of other central nervous systems (CNS) tumors and extracranial tumors.

        Dual-Mode Liquid Crystal Devices with Switchable Memory and Dynamic Modes

        A liquid crystal device with switchable dynamic and memory modes was investigated and developed. The proposed device reveals the splay, π-twist, and bend states via selective switching among them. In the dynamic mode, thedevice is operated in the bend state, which exhibits a wide viewing-angle and a fast-response-time due to its self-compensated bend structure and flow-accelerated fast response time, respectively. In the memory mode, the permanent memory characteristics in the splay and π-twist sates are obtained, respectively. The switching mechanisms of the tristate device are also proposed.

        Adsorptive Granulocyte and Monocyte Apheresis in the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis: The First Multicenter Study in China

        Background/Aims: Patients with active ulcerative colitis (UC) have elevated levels of activated myeloid-derived leukocytes as a source of inflammatory cytokines. The selective deple-tion of these leukocytes by adsorptive granulocyte/monocyte apheresis (GMA) with an Adacolumn should alleviate inflammation, promote remission and enhance drug efficacy. However, studies have reported contrasting efficacy out-comes based on patients` baseline demographic variables. This study was undertaken to understand the demographic features of GMA responders and nonresponders. Methods: This was a multicenter study in China involving four institutions and 34 patients with active UC. Baseline conventional medications were continued without changing the dosage. The treatment efficacy was evaluated based on the endo-scopic activity index and the Mayo score. Results: Thirty of the 34 patients completed all 10 GMA treatment sessions. The overall efficacy rate was 70.59%. The receiver operating characteristic analysis showed that the area under the curve was approximately 0.766 for a Mayo score of ≤5.5 with 0.273 specificity and 0.857 sensitivity (Youden index, 0.584) for GMA responders. No GMA-related serious adverse events were observed. Conclusions: The overall efficacy of GMA in patients with active UC who were taking first-line medications or were corticosteroid refractory was encouraging. Addition-ally, GMA was well tolerated and had a good safety profile. (Gut Liver 2017;11:216-225)
