<P>Highly organized cubic mesoporous WO3/TiO2 films were successfully prepared by evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) process, employing triblock copolymer as template. The characterization results by XRD, SEM, TEM, UV-Vis. spectrophotometry, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms reveal that the mesoporous films are made up of well-defined 3-D cubic (lm3m space group) mesoporous structure and nanocrystalline anatase frameworks with high surface area, uniform pore sizes and excellent optical transparency. Photocatalytic properties of the mesoporous WO3/TiO2 films in decomposing gaseous 2-propanol to CO2 were analyzed as a function of calcinations temperature. The highest photocatalytic activity was obtained for the films calcined at 450 degrees C, which possess an appropriate crystallinity and relevant ordering of mesoporous structure. It was found that that long-range ordering of mesopores is one of the important factors in determining the photocatalytic degradation of gaseous organics.</P>

Reversion mutations are associated with clinical resistance to poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi). Here, we describe the detection of a BRCA1 reversion mutation in a 39-year-old woman with metastatic breast cancer harboring a heterozygous germline BRCA1 exons 7–8 deletion who received PARPi olaparib combined with immune checkpoint inhibitor camrelizumab as third-line therapy. During progression from the olaparib and camrelizumab combination therapy, we identified via genomic sequencing a novel 7-base pair somatic deletion in BRCA1 (c.617_623delACAAATC). Sequence analyses indicated that this mutation realigned the reading frame of BRCA1, which potentially led to the reversal of its normal function and conferred resistance to PARPi.
Antimycobacterial Activity of Fusaric Acid from a Mangrove Endophyte and its Metal Complexes

Due to the increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, there is an urgent need for new antituberculosis drugs that have novel mechanisms of action. As part of our ongoing search for antimycobacterial metabolites from mangrove endophytes, chemical analysis of the active extract of a strain of Fusarium sp. was performed, which led to the isolation of fusaric acid as the predominant constituent. A variety of metal complexes of fusaric acid were prepared. Antimycobacterial assays showed that Cadmium (II) and Copper (II) complexes exhibited potent inhibitory activity against the M. bovis BCG strain [minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) = 4 μg/mL] and the M. tuberculosis H37Rv strain (MIC = 10 μg/mL), respectively. This is the first report of the antimycobacterial activity of the mangrove Fusarium metabolite and its coordinating metal complexes.

<P>Hexagonal and cubic mesoporous TiO2 films were prepared by using triblock copolymer-templated sol-gel method via evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) process. The mesophase of TiO2 film was controlled by spin-speed during the spin-coating process. The hexagonal mesoporous structure was formed at a high spin-speed around 2000 rpm, whereas the cubic mesostructure was formed at a low spin-speed around 600 rpm. XRD and TEM results indicate that those mesostructures are highly organized with a pore diameter of 7 nm. The prepared cubic and hexagonal mesoporous films were tested as photocatalysts for the decomposition of 2-propanol in gas phase. Both films presented considerably higher photocatalytic activity than a nonporous TiO2 films prepared by a typical sol-gel process without addition of triblock copolymer. Notably, we found that the cubic mesoporous films showed a relatively higher photocatalytic activity than the hexagonal mesostructured film. We believe this is due to the orientation of pore channels open on the surface of mesoporous films.</P>
Derivation of Cubic and Hexagonal Mesoporous Silica Films by Spin-coating
Pan, Jia-Hong,Lee, Wan-In Korean Chemical Society 2005 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.26 No.3
By introducing spin-coating method to the evaporation induced self-assembly (EISA) process, a simple and reproducible route in controlling the mesophase of silica thin films has been developed for the first time in this work. When a comparatively solvent-rich Si-sol (The atomic ratio of TEOS : F127 : HCl : $H_2O$ : EtOH = 1 : 0.006 : 0.2 : 9.2 : 30) was used as coating solution, the mesophase of resultant silica films was selectively controlled by adjusting the spin-on speed. The cubic mesophase has been obtained from the coating at a low rpm, such as 600 rpm, while the 2-D hexagonal mesophase is formed at a high rpm, such as 2,500 rpm. At a medium coating speed, a mixture of cubic and hexagonal mesophase has been found in the fabricated films. The present results confirm that the evaporation rate of volatile components at initial step is critical for the determination of mesopore structures during the EISA process.

<P>Highly organized mesoporous titania and silica thin films were synthesized using a triblock copolymer-templated sol-gel method <I>via</I> an evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) process. For the first time, we have found that the mesophase of these metal oxides can be selectively controlled by varying the spin-coating conditions. With spin-coating at a low speed, such as 600 rpm, cubic mesoporous TiO2 or SiO2 thin films are obtained, whereas 2D hexagonal mesoporous thin films are formed at a high spin-coating speed of around 2000 rpm for 20 s. On the other hand, a mixture of hexagonal and cubic phase is formed for films prepared at an intermediate spinning speed of 1000 rpm for 10 s. The fabricated mesoporous thin films, characterized by XRD, TEM, and UV-visible spectroscopy, show that the mesopore structures are highly ordered, without any cracks, and thermally stable (up to 400 °C). The hexagonal and cubic mesoporous TiO2 films of 300–320 nm thickness have about 95% transparency and exhibit a ultra-uniform surfaces. We believe that the evaporation rate of volatile components in the coated film is qualitatively proportional to the speed of spin-coating, and this determines the mesophase of the resultant films.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Highly ordered cubic and hexagonal mesoporous TiO2 and SiO2 thin films can be selectively obtained by varying the spin-coating conditions in the evaporation-induced self-assembly process. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=b417310d'> </P>

This paper presents correlation-based automatic image captioning. Given a training set of annotated images, we want to discover correlations between visual features and textual features, so that we can automatically generate descriptive textual features for a new unseen image. We develop models with multiple design alternatives such as 1) adaptively clustering visual features, 2) weighting visual features and textual features, and 3) reducing dimensionality for noise sup-pression. We experiment thoroughly on 10 data sets of various content styles from the Corel image database, about 680MB. The major contributions of this work are: (a) we show that careful weighting visual and textual features, as well as clustering visual features adaptively leads to consistent performance improvements, and (b) our proposed methods achieve a relative improvement of up to 45% on annotation accuracy over the state-of-the-art, EM approach.
The GSTT1 Null Genotype Contributes to Increased Risk of Prostate Cancer in Asians: a Meta-analysis
Pan, Zhao-Jun,Huang, Wei-Jia,Zou, Zi-Hao,Gao, Xing-Cheng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.6
Background: Many studies have investigated the association between glutathione S-transferase T 1 (GSTT1) null genotype and risk of prostate cancer, but the impact of GSTT1 null genotype in Asians is still unclear owing to inconsistencies across results. Thie present meta-analysis aimed to quantify the strength of the association between GSTT1 null genotype and risk of prostate cancer. Methods: We searched the PubMed, Embase and Wangfang databases for studies of associations between the GSTT1 null genotype and risk of prostate cancer in Asians and estimated summary odds ratio (OR) with their 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Results: A total of 11 case-control studies with 3,118 subjects were included in this meta-analysis, which showed the GSTT1 null genotype to be significantly associated with increased risk of prostate cancer in Asians (random-effects OR = 1.49, 95% CI 1.15-1.92, P = 0.002), also after adjustment for heterogeneity (fixed-effects OR = 1.45, 95% CI 1.23-1.70, P < 0.001). No evidence of publication bias was observed. Conclusions: This meta-analysis of available data suggested the GSTT1 null genotype does contribute to increased risk of prostate cancer in Asians.
