        Multiplex PCR Detection for 3 Events of Genetically Modified Maize, DAS-59122-7, TC6275, and MIR604

        A multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method was developed to simultaneously detect 3 events of genetically modified (GM) maize. The event-specific primers were used to discriminate the following 3 events of GM maize (DAS-59122-7, TC6275, and MIR604) using multiplex PCR method. The zein gene was used as an endogenous maize reference gene in the multiplex PCR detection. The primer pair Zein-F/R producing a 99 bp amplicon was used to amplify the zein gene. The primer JI-Das-F1/R1 for DAS-59122-7, JI-TC6275-F3/R3 for TC6275, and JI-MIR F1/R1 for MIR604 yielded an amplicon of 130, 162, and 197 bp, respectively. The detection limit of multiplex PCR was 1% for DAS-59122-7, TC6275, and MIR604 for one reaction.

        Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is endemic in Asia and reactivation of HBV is a well recognized complication in infected patients who undergo cytotoxic chemotherapy for cancer and immunosuppressive therapy. Since immunosuppressant can facilitate viral replication and lead to reactivation of HBV, the management of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients who are HBsAg-positive presents a clinical challenge. We report here on a 29-year old female with SLE and HBsAg positivity who presented hepatitic flare during corticosteroid treatment only. HBsAg carriers who receive cytotoxic or immunosuppressive therapy are at considerable risk of reactivation of HBV infection. Antiviral prophylaxis is clinically efficacious as primary prophylaxis to prevent HBV reactivation. Risk factors allowing patient stratification for HBV reactivation include foremost the HBV DNA level before initiation of immunosuppresive treatment, including corticosteroids. Monitoring for development of acute flare of HBV should be performed by serial measurement of HBV DNA and liver enzymes regularly.

        Muscle fatigue is a symptom that decreases your muscles’ ability to perform over time. It can be associated with a state of exhaustion, often following excessive sports activity or exercise. While exercise is a common cause of muscle fatigue, this symptom can be the result of other health conditions. Muscle fatigue caused by excessive activity limits activities of daily living and difficult to maintain a stable posture. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of stretching, icing, and sports massage on muscle fatigue recovery.

        Eight monitoring stations in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex will determine the concentration of air pollutants measured every hour in 2019, analyze what factors affect them, and how they correlate with the air pollutant measurements. Six air pollutants (SO2, NO2, O3, CO, PM-10 and PM-2.5) measured at eight monitoring stations around Yeosu National Industrial Complex (Seogang-dong, Wolnae-dong, Munsu-dong, Yeocheon-dong, Deokchung-dong, Hwayang-myeon, Yulchon-myeon, Samil-dong) the measurement data for each hour of the year were downloaded to analyze the concentration by weather condition, time zone, season, separation distance from Yeosu Industrial Complex, and separation distance from Gwangyang Industrial Complex. SO2, NO2, and CO concentrations were significantly higher in winter, significantly lower in summer, and O3, PM-10, and PM-2.5 concentrations were significantly higher in spring. SO2, CO, PM-10, and PM-2.5 concentrations were significantly higher between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., NO2 concentrations were significantly higher between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., and O3 concentrations were significantly higher between 13 p.m. and 15 p.m.(p<0.001). The concentration of air pollutants (SO2, NO2, CO, PM-10, PM-2.5) excluding O3 was found to have a negative (-) correlation with weather condition, and in the case of O3, it was found to have a positive (+) correlation with PM-10, PM-2.5, temperature and wind speed. It was confirmed that the concentration of air pollutants emitted from the Yeosu National Industrial Complex differs depending on the season, time and distance to the industrial complex. This study aims to establish measures to minimize health damage to residents living relatively close to the industrial complex and contribute to the establishment of management and response measures according to the properties of substances to reduce the concentration of air pollutants in the future.

        This study attempted to determine the degree of asbestos release from the aging slate roof by comparing the asbestos content in the slate roof rain gutter with a colored steel plate (tin plate) over the slate roof. Four slate roof houses located in Haengmok-ri, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do, and one house constructed with a colored steel plate on the slate roof were selected to collect the sediment of the roof rain gutter. The asbestos fiber content was calculated by a point counting method using a polarization microscope after pretreatment with conversion treatment and hydrochloric acid treatment. The average asbestos content of the four slate roof rain gutter were 1.89%. However, asbestos was not detected in the Slate covering roof rain gutter, which were constructed on the slate roof. Asbestos fiber content was the highest at 2.89% in the slate roof rain gutter installed in 1976, followed by 2.44% in 1953. From the above results, it is necessary to minimize secondary damage as asbestos fibers released from slate roof houses to the surrounding atmosphere or leaked from slate roofs as rainwater may cause soil pollution and seriously affect residents' health. Although covering with colored steel plates (tin plates) has been shown to prevent the leakage of asbestos fibers to some extent, it is believed that a policy alternative to remove the slate roof as soon as possible is needed to solve the fundamental problem.

      • 점포내 VMD요소가 SPA 브랜드 정체성에 미치는 영향

        This study was to examine the effect of VMD factors on brand identity for SPA brands. As brand stimulus, four SPA brands(e.g., Basic House, Codes combine, Uniqlo, Zara) were selected by pretest. For collecting data, a self-administered questionnaire was developed based on the literatures and intercept survey was conducted. A total 508 usable responses were obtained from consumers who shopped at the selected brands' stores. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and regression analysis were used. As perceived by consumers, VMD consisted of seven factors: lightening, scent, color, layout, music, window display, and item presentation. The VMD factor was significantly related to brand identity for the SPA brands. Specifically, brand awareness was predicted by color, layout and item presentation; brand association strength was predicted by color, layout, and widow display; favorable brand association was predicted by item presentation; salience of brand association was predicted by color and music; and brand image association was predicted by color, layout, music, and item presentation. Thus, this study discussed a managerial implication for SPA retailers to develop a visual merchandising strategy in the competitive marketplace.

        In this paper, an image processing method detecting the vehicles which violate the exclusive bus lain traffic regulation is proposed. The tow cameras are used to capture the images of the first lain of a highway where the exclusive bus lain traffic regulation is enforced. One camera is used to capture the front view of a vehicle, and the second camera to capture the side view of the craft. The front view camera is used for recognizing the vehicle licence number. The side view camera is employed for categorizing the vehicle class. The proposed method in this paper is very practical to be implemented because it does not need any attachment on the vehicle such as an identification transmitter or any other electronic devices.

      • 콘크리트 보수용 폴리머 복합재료의 접착강도 특성

        이 연구는 기존 시멘트 콘크리트 구조물의 표면층과 보수용 폴리머 모르터의 접착강도 특성을 구명키위해 폴리머 결합재의 종류, 결합재 첨가량, 모재의 표면상태를 변수로하여 실험한 것이다. 폴리머 시멘트 모르터제조에 상용된 재료는 시멘트 혼화용 폴리머로서 styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR)를 사용하였고, 폴리머 모르터의 결합재로는 에폭시 수지 (EP)와 불포와 폴리에스터 수지 (UP)를 사용하였다. 실험결과 모재가 건조상태인 경우 습윤상태보다 강도가 높게 나타나 모재의 상태가 건조한 것이 접착강도에 유리한 것으로 나타났으며, 폴리머 시멘트 모르터가 폴리머 모르터에 비해 접착강도가 낮음을 알 수 있었다. The adhesion properties of polymer mortars for cement concrete repair were evaluated with respect to polymer types, binder ratios and the surface conditions of cement concrete substrate. Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) was used as an additive for polymer cement mortar and epoxy resin (EP) and unsaturated polyester resin (UP) were used as binders for polymer mortars. The adhesion strength of polymer cement mortar was smaller than that of polymer mortar. The adhesion strengths to the dry surfaces of substrate were larger than those to the wet surfaces, indicating that the dryness of substrate increased the adhesion strength in repairing concrete structures.

        대구지역 대수층 사암의 광물상 안정 및 지하수의 화학적 조성과의 관계

        대구지역 주요 대수층인 반야월층과 함안층 사암의 구성광물을 조사하고 이 중 석영, 사장석, 정장석, 미사장석, 방해석 등 주요 광물과 미량이나마 흔히 관찰되는 고령석, 백운모, 녹니석, 스멕타이트의 안정관계를 나타내는 활성도 다이어그램 log([M^(n+)])/[H^(+)]^(n))-log[H_(4)SiO_(4)] (M: K, Na, Ca, Mg, n: 원자가)을 열역학적 자료를 이용하여 작성하고 여기에 반야월층과 함안층 지하수의 화학 분석치를 점시하였다. 그 결과 지하수는 거의 전부가 고령석의 안정영역에 점시되므로 대수층암석의 구성광물 중 지하수의 화학적 조성과 평형에 있는 고령석은 안정하나 평형상태에 있지 않는 다른 광물 즉, 장석류, 백운모, 녹니석, 스멕타이트 및 방해석은 불안정하여 분해된다. 따라서 이 과정에서 용탈되어 나온 K^(+), Na^(+), Ca^(2+), Mg^(2+)과 관련 음이온 HCO_(3)^(-), Cl^(-), SO_(4)^(-2) 등이 지하수의 주요 화학적 조성이 된다. The mineral compositions of sandstones in the Panyawoel and Haman formations which are major aquifers in Daegu area were investigated, and the activity diagrams of log([Mn^(+)]/[H]^(n))-log[H_(4)SiO_(4)] (M: K, Na, Ca, Mg, n: atomic value) showing their phase stability relationships were drawn using thermodynamic data for plagioclase, K-feldspar, calcite and the minor minerals of muscovite, chlorite and smectite which occur in the sandstone. The chemical compositions of the groundwaters sampled from 42 wells in the Panyawoel and Haman formations area were nearly all plotted in the kaolinite region. Therefore, kaolinite in equilibrium with chemical compositions of the groundwaters is stable, and other unstable minerals such as feldspars, muscovite, chlorite and smectite including calcite will be decomposed and converted into secondary minerals producing K^(+), Na^(+), Ca^(2+), Mg^(2+), HCO_(3)^(-), Cl^(-), SO^(2-) as major chemical compositions of the groundwaters in Daegu area.
