        The relationship between shift work pattern and thyroid stimulating hormone in female workers

        Background: Shift work is known to cause changes in the circadian rhythm of the human body and adversely affect not only physical health but also mental health. Some studies have demonstrated the correlation between shift work and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), a hormone that changes according to the diurnal rhythm, but few studies have reported the different TSH levels according to the shift work type. This study aimed to investigate changes in TSH according to the shift work type. Methods: This study included 1,318 female workers who had a medical checkup at a university hospital in Changwon from 2015 to 2019. Shift work types were classified as nonshift work, regular 2 shifts, and irregular three shifts, and a TSH ≥ 4.2 mIU/L was defined as abnormal. A general linear model (GLM) was used to compare the TSH levels and the risk of subclinical hypothyroidism in each year, and a binary logistic analysis was performed using a generalized estimation equation (GEE) to compare the risk of subclinical hypothyroidism over the 5-year period. Results: Of the 1,318 participants included in this study, 363, 711, and 244 were non-shift, two-shift, and irregular three-shift workers, respectively. In the GEE analysis, after adjusting for age, body mass index, smoking, and alcohol consumption, the odds ratios (ORs) were 1.81 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.15–2.86; p = 0.011) in 2 shifts and 2.02 (95% CI: 1.23–3.32; p = 0.006) in irregular three shifts, compared to non-shift. Conclusions: Our results showed that shift work had a higher risk of subclinical hypothyroidism than non-shift work and that there was a significant difference in the risk of subclinical hypothyroidism according to the shift work type. These findings suggest that the shift work type can be considered in future thyroid function tests and evaluations.

      • N-doped graphene-carbon nanotube hybrid networks attaching with gold nanoparticles for glucose non-enzymatic sensor

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Herein, we successfully developed a novel three dimensional (3D) opened networks based on nitrogen doped graphene‑carbon nanotubes attaching with gold nanoparticles (N-GR-CNTs/AuNPs) to apply for non-enzymatic glucose determination. It was demonstrated that the N-GR-CNTs/AuNPs modified electrode exhibited good behavior for glucose detection with a long linear range of 2 μM to 19.6 mM, high sensitivity of 0.9824 μA·mM<SUP>−1</SUP>·cm<SUP>−2</SUP>, low detection limit of 500 nM, and negligible interference effect. The high performance of the N-GR-CNTs/AuNPs based sensor was assumed due to the outstanding catalytic activity of AuNPs well dispersing on N-GR-CNTs networks, which exhibited as a perfect supporting scaffold due to the enhanced electrical conductivity and large surface area. The obtained results indicated that the N-GR-CNTs/AuNPs hybrid is highly promising for sensitive and selective detection of glucose in sensor application.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> 3D network of N-GR-CNT-deposited Au NPs was synthesized for electrochemical sensor. </LI> <LI> The glucose was detected with linear detection range of 2 μM to 19.6 mM and low detection limit of 500 nM. </LI> <LI> The hybrid based sensor showed good stability and selectivity. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        YouTube 썸네일 이미지에 나타난 타이포그래피의 분산형, 집합형 표현유형에 따른 선호도 조사

        인터넷과 디지털 기술의 발달은 개인이 직접 촬영부터 시작하여 컴퓨터의 프로그램과 핸드폰의 앱을 통해 간단한 영상 편집이 가능한 1인 미디어라는 개념을 탄생시켰다. 이러한 상황에서 YouTube는 전 세계적인 동영상 공유 플랫폼으로써 대표가 되고 있으며, 자연스럽게 콘텐츠 경쟁이 가열이 되고 있는 상황이다. 개인뿐만 아니라 많은 기업에서 자신의 콘텐츠를 돋보이게 하기 위해 다양한 장르의 동영상을 제작을 하고 있으며, 그 중 시청자와 구독자들이 자신이 콘텐츠를 볼 수 있게 하기 위해서 동영상의 대표 이미지인 썸네일 제작에 심혈을 기울이고 있다. 이제 본 연구는 YouTube에서 사용되는 썸네일, 그 중에서도 타이포그래피의 분산형, 집합형 표현유형을 중심으로 하여 시청자들의 선호도를 조사를 함으로써 개인 콘텐츠 제작자와 YouTube를 사용하여 홍보를 하고자 하는 기업 및 채널들에게 콘텐츠의 제작을 하는 데 있어 이로운 기초자료가 되는 것에 목적을 두고 있다. 본 연구에서는 시청자들과 기업들이 선호하고 홍보를 자주 하는 장르인 뷰티/패션과 요리/베이킹, 취미생활(리빙,토이)를 중심으로 조사를 하였으며, 조사를 위해 타이포그래피의 표현유형을 선정하고 분류작업을 하였다. YouTube 썸네일 이미지의 선호도를 조사한 결과 분산형보다 집합형 썸네일에 시청자들은 선호도가 높게 나타났으며, 그 중 메인 타이틀에 시선이 가장 집중이 된다는 것을 파악을 하였다. The development of digital technology and the Internet began with personal filming and went on to birth the concept of the one person media company, in which video editing is completed with computer programs and cell phone applications. Considering YouTube has become the worldwide leading video sharing platform in this digital climate, it is only natural that the competition in creating content has increased and continues to rise. Many companies are looking to elevate their content with various types of videos and have been focusing on the creation of video thumbnail images to help viewers and subscribers navigate the content more easily. By studying viewers’ preferences of loose and tight typography expression types in YouTube thumbnails, this study was conducted with the goal of providing foundational information for companies and channels that use content creators and YouTube for marketing purposes. This study focuses on the genres that viewers and companies tend to prefer and promote, including beauty/fashion, cooking/baking, and hobbies/life. In order to focus on these genres, the typography expression types were selected and categorized. Based on the research results on YouTube thumbnail image preferences, viewers highly preferred the tight expression type over the loose expression type and it was also concluded that they were most drawn to the main title.

        고려시대 동남해지역 해양사와 중심 포구의 이동 - 조선 초기 부산포 개항과 관련하여 -

        본고는 조선 태종 7년(1407)에 내이포(乃而浦)와 함께 개항하는 부산포의 역사적 연원을 살펴보고자 작성하였다. 이를 위해 부산지역이 포함된 ‘동남해 해양사’의 관점에서 고려시대 동남해의 포구와 해양활동을 살펴보았다. 고려시대 동남해지역은 일본과의 외교와 통상활동의 중심 권역으로, 그 중심지는 남포(南浦)가 있던 김해와 합포(合浦)가 있던 마산지역이었다. 12~13세기 중반에는 객관(客館)과 동남해도부서(東南海都部署)가 있던 금주(金州)에서 대일 외교·통상 업무를 관할하였다. 13세기 후반의 원간섭기 이후는 왜구 침입의 방어 거점인 합포진변만호부가 있던 회원현(會原縣)이 동남해 수군 활동의 중심지가 되었다. 이 내용을 바탕으로 신라~조선 초기 동남해지역 중심 포구의 이동 양상을 살폈다. 신라의 대외 교섭은 울주 태화강변의 율포(栗浦)에서 이루어졌다. 또한 조선왕조 개창 이후 태종 7년에는 흥리왜인(興利倭人)을 위해 내이포와 부산포를 개항하였고, 16세기 중엽이 되면 부산포 단일 왜관시대가 열리게 되었다. 이상과 같이 신라~조선 초기 동남해지역의 중심 고을과 포구는 울주(율포), 금주(남포), 회원현(합포) 그리고 동래현(부산포)으로, 오늘날의 울산-김해-창원(옛마산)-부산 순으로 이동하였다. 이러한 동남해 해양사의 중심 포구의 이동 속에서 부산포의 개항을 이해할 필요가 있을 것이다. This study aims to investigate the historical background for the opening of Busan Port along with Naeipo in the 7<sup>th</sup> year of King Taejong’s reign (1407) during the Joseon Dynasty. For this purpose, this study examined the status of ports in the southeast coast and marine activities during the Goryeo Dynasty from the ‘sea history of the southeast coast’ perspective, including the Busan area. The southeast coast region during the Goryeo Dynasty was the central district for foreign policies and trading activities toward Japan, and the center was Gimhae where Nampo was located and Masan where Happo was located. To go back to the Silla Dynasty to examine the aspects of changes in the central ports in the southeast coastal region, foreign negotiation was made in Yulpo in the Taehwa riverside in Ulju. Next, in the first half and the middle period of the Goryo Dynasty, Geumju where the Southeast Sea and Islands Division and guest houses were located supervised foreign policies and trade affairs toward Japan. After the Yuan intervention period in the late 13<sup>th</sup> century, Hoewon-hyeon where the defensive work against Japanese invasion, Jinbyeon Manho-bu in Happo was located was the center base of naval forces’ activities in the southeast coast. Also, after the opening of the Joseon Dynasty, in the 7th year of King Taejong’s reign, Naeipo and Busan Port were opened for Heungri-woein (Japanese Traders), and in the mid-16th century, the single Waegwan period was opened in Busan Port. As above, between the Silla Dynasty and the early period of the Joseon Dynasty, the central counties and ports in the southeast coast region moved from Ulju (Yulpo) through Geumju (Nampo) and Hoewon-hyeon (Happo) to Dongnae-hyeon (Busanpo), respectively, Ulsan, Gimhae, Changwon (Former Masan) and Busan today. It is necessary to understand the opening of Busan Port in changes in the central ports in the southeast coast Sea history.

        Who Consumes Political News through YouTube?: An Application of the OMA Framework to YouTube Use in South Korea

        This study analyzes how individual motivations including political interest and media trust and cognitive abilities affect news consumption through YouTube in a high choice media environment of South Korea. In the empirical analysis, we use a nationally representative dataset differentiating respondents in tree types of users concerning YouTube - namely, non-users, non-news consumers, and news consumers. Applying a binary response model with sample selection, we resolve a potential selectin bias and prove that political interest is the strongest motivation leading individuals to consume news through YouTube. In addition, the positive impact of political interest is shown to increases as individuals trust less traditional news media. However, we do not find any evidence that news consumption through YouTube is biased toward a specific party or ideological orientation.

        Candidate Strategy of Distributing Negative Messages in U.S. Presidential Campaigns

        이 연구는 미국대통령선거에서 후보자들이 네거티브 메세지를 어떻게 배포하는가를 검토한다. 이를 위해 대선 후보자들의 네거티브 메세지 배포 결정을 설명하는 모델을 발전시키고, 1976-1996년 미국대통령선거에서 주요 정당 후보자들이 배포하였던 캠페인 광고 데이터를 통해 경험적으로 분석한다. 분석결과는 "타이밍", "상대후보의 공격", "지지율 차이" 등의 요인들이 후보자들의 네거티브 메세지 배포 결정에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 미국대선 후보자들의 네거티브 메세지 배포 결정은 변화하는 캠페인 환경속에서 자신들의 이득을 최대화하기 위한 전략적 고려에 달려있음을 제시해준다. This study examines the candidate strategy of distributing negative messages in U.S. presidential campaigns. This study develops a comprehensive model to account for candidate decisions to employ negative messages in U.S. presidential campaigns and test it using data collected from all available campaign advertisements produced by major party candidates competing in the 1976-1996 U.S. presidential elections. The findings of the analysis show that several variables such as "timing," "opposition attacks," and "support difference" follow the expected directions. The results suggest that how presidential candidates employ negative messages hinges on the strategic rationale to maximize their benefits in terms of changes in the specific campaign contexts over the course of the campaign.

      • Camouflaged Adversarial Attack on Object Detector

        The existence of physical-world adversarial examples such as adversarial patches proves the vulnerability of real-world deep learning systems. Therefore, it is essential to develop efficient adversarial attack algorithms to identify potential risks and build a robust system. The patch-based physical adversarial attack has shown its effectiveness in attacking neural network-based object detectors. However, the generated patches are quite perceptible for humans, violating the fundamental assumption of adversarial examples. In this work, we present task-specific loss functions that can generate imperceptible adversarial patches based on camouflaged patterns. First, we propose a constrained optimization method with two camouflage assessment metrics to quantify camouflage performance. Then, we show the regularization with those metrics can help generate the adversarial patches based on camouflage patterns. Furthermore, we validate our methods with various experiments and show that we can generate natural-style camouflaged adversarial patches with comparable attack performance.

        Track following Control with DFT Estimator for Eccentric Error Compensation of Optical Disk Driver

        <P>This paper proposes a dynamic eccentric error compensation architecture for the tracking follow controller of optical disk drivers. For enhancing the tracking performance in an optical disk drive servo system, it is essential to attenuate periodic disturbances which are caused by revolutions of the disk. Periodic disturbances can be attenuated using a discrete Fourier transform estimator with the known disturbance frequency provided by a motor driver. Optical disk drivers support various speeds. So optical disk drivers have a varying periodic disturbance. To deal with time varying periodic disturbances, a proposed eccentric error compensation controller is turned based on sinusoidal generator to follow the change of reference period. The disturbance estimator uses the discrete Fourier transform method that models the periodic disturbance. We present simulative and experimental results and show that the proposed control scheme enables a significant improvement of the tracking accuracy of the radial servomechanism and the random access time. We implement the proposed eccentric error controller on the system on chip (SOC).</P>

        The usefulness and accuracy of sentinel lymph node biopsy using single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography with 99mTc phytate to detect locoregional lymph node metastases in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma

        Purpose: Regional lymph node (LN) metastases are detected in 57?85% of patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and are associated with increased tumor recurrence. However, the management of lymphatic disease in patients with PTC has been ongoing source of debate. We have prospectively assessed the usefulness and accuracy of sentinel LN (SLN) biopsy for the detection of LN metastases in patients with PTC on preoperative imaging using single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) and 99mTc phytate. Methods: We prospectively assessed 39 patients with PTC who had risk factors for recurrence or with the necessity of intraoperative LN sampling for suspicious LN metastases on preoperative imaging from August 2010 to March 2011. The patients underwent preoperative lymphoscintigraphy and SPETC/CT and intraoperative SLN biopsy (SLNB). Results: 99mTc lymphoscintigraphy and SPECT/CT localized SLN in 38 patients (97.4%), with the gamma probe identifying 2.15 mean SLNs in the lateral neck of the 39 patients. Skip metastasis was found in one patient, and lateral compartment LN metastasis in 17 (43.5%). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of SLNB for lateral compartment LN metastasis were 88.2%, 100%, and 94.8%, respectively. SLNB was more accurate and useful for lateral than for central compartment LN metastasis. Conclusion: SPECT/CT improved SLN detection and anatomical localization compared with lymphoscintigraphy. SLNB in patients with risk factors for recurrence or the necessity of intraoperative LN sampling for suspected LN metastases on preoperative imaging was accurate in detecting LN metastases and may help in deciding whether to perform lateral compartment dissection in patients with PTC.
