레이저 용발법에 의한 금속 표면 제염특성을 평가하였다. 레이저로는 파장 532 nm, 펄스에너지 150 mJ, 펄스폭 5 ns의 큐스위치 Nd:YAG 를 적용하였고, 금속 표면에 CsNO3, Co(NH4)2(SO4)2, Eu2O3 그리고 CeO2를 오염시켜 이들의 제염 특성을 평가하였다. 제염 변수로는 레이저 적용횟수, 레이저 에너지 밀도 및 레이저 조사 각도 특성을 평가하였으며 각각 8, 13.3 J/cm2 및 30o의 최적 조건을 확인하였다. 제염 효율은 오염성분의 비점과 관련이 있었으며 CsNO3>Co(NH4)2(SO4)2>Eu2O3>CeO2 순이었다. 또한 여러 에너지 밀도 조건에서 스테인레스 스틸 재질의 식각 깊이 제어 특성을 규명하였다. Metal surface decontamination characteristics were investigated by using a laser ablation method. A second harmonic generation of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with a wave length of 532 nm, a pulse energy of 150 mJ and a pulse width of 5 ns was employed to assess the decontamination performance for metal surfaces contaminated with CsNO3, Co(NH4)2(SO4)2, Eu2O3 and CeO2. The ablation behavior was investigated for the decontamination variables such as a number of laser shots, laser fluence and an irradiation angle. Their optimum values were found to be 8,13.3 J/cm2 and 30o, respectively. The decontamination efficiency was different depending on the kinds of the contaminated ions, due to their different melting and boiling points and was in the order: CsNO3>Co(NH4)2(SO4)2>Eu2O3>CeO2. We also evaluated a correlation between the metal ablation thickness and the number of laser shots for the different laser fluences.

<P> Adsorptive separation of palladium from a nitric acid solution was performed by using a pitch-based activated carbon fiber modified with NaOH (NaOH-ACF). The NaOH-ACF showed a markedly improved adsorption performance for the palladium ions as compared with the untreated ACF. It also showed a much higher preferential adsorption for the palladium ion over the rhodium and rhenium ions. The equilibrium capacity of the NaOH-ACF for palladium was 1.25 meq · g-1. The breakthrough behavior obtained by using the bed packed with the NaOH-ACF showed a complete separation of palladium from the coexisting ions of rhodium and rhenium. The spent bed was eluted effectively with nitric acid and a palladium nitrate with a purity of higher than 99% could be recovered.</P>
A modularized wire-driven overtube using tube type bending mechanism for robotic NOTES system

A robotic NOTES system is recently attracting growing attention as it makes it possible to operate surgery without making any incisions on the body. In spite of the several advantages, however, an operation with a robotic NOTES system is not easy and has faced a lot of problems thus far. One of the problems is that it is difficult to locate and stabilize flexible tools during an operation. In this paper, a wire actuated, bending mechanism overtube is proposed for a robotic NOTES system. The proposed overtube can locate surgical instruments to lesions and fix the positions automatically by using high-geared motors. Furthermore, it is modularized so as to manufacture and to assemble easily. For the design of the overtube, functional requirements were first discussed and design parameters were obtained through the functional requirements. Maximum force at the tip of the overtube and bending angle of the active bending section were measured. In addition, animal surgery experiments were performed with the robotic NOTES system installed with the proposed overtube. On the basis of the animal experiments, further studies for the supplement points are considered.
In vitro and in vivo activities of DW-224a, a novel fluoroquinolone antibiotic agent

<P><I>Objectives</I>: The objective of the present study was to assess the <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I> activities of DW-224a in order to eventually use it as an antibiotic.</P><P><I>Methods</I>: DW-224a was compared with DW286, ciprofloxacin and trovafloxacin. MICs of DW-224a, DW286, ciprofloxacin and trovafloxacin were determined against several groups of clinical isolates. In addition, intraperitoneal infection was induced with various organisms in mice. Test compounds were administered once orally to mice immediately after infection. The 50% protective dose (PD<SUB>50</SUB>) was calculated from the survival rates on day 7 after infection.</P><P><I>Results</I>: Against Gram-positive bacteria, the <I>in vitro</I> activity of DW-224a was stronger than those of ciprofloxacin and trovafloxacin, but slightly weaker than that of DW286. Against Gram-negative bacteria, the activity of DW-224a was similar to those of trovafloxacin and DW286, but weaker than that of ciprofloxacin. In experimental systemic infections in mice with various organisms, like DW286, DW-224a demonstrated potent activity against Gram-positive bacteria and somewhat less activity against Gram-negative bacteria.</P><P><I>Conclusions</I>: DW-224a has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, which is especially potent against Gram-positive bacteria.</P>
New Reassortant Clade 2.3.4.4b Avian Influenza A(H5N6) Virus in Wild Birds, South Korea, 2017–18

<P>We isolated new reassortant avian influenza A(H5N6) viruses from feces of wild waterfowl in South Korea during 2017–18. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that reassortment occurred between clade 2.3.4.4b H5N8 and Eurasian low pathogenicity avian influenza viruses circulating in wild birds. Dissemination to South Korea during the 2017 fall migratory season followed.</P>
