Refractoruy organic containants have been often reported to came from increacing consumption of organic materials. Lots of researches have been done for complete mineralization to CO_(2) and H_(2)O by attack of active radical species, generated on the UV irradiated TiO_(2) surface. The effect of pH in trichloroethylene(TCE) aqueos solution on the photocatalytic activity of TCE photodegradation was studied. The pH of solution was adjusted from 3 to 11 by using HNO_(3) and NaOH, P25-TiO_(2) from Degussa, mixed structure of anatase(75%) and rultile(25%), and physical mixture(M - TiO_(2)) of Aldrich TiO_(2)(anatase) and KIER TiO_(2)(rutile) were used. The optimum degradation of TCE appeared at pH 9 of the aqueous solution when Degussa P-25 was used. And phptocataytic activities of Degussa P-25 and M-TiO_(2) were almost same when the pH of the solution was 9.

In this study, surface of various types of TiO_2 were characterized by SEM. The effects of H_2O_2 and pH in trichloroethylene(TCE) aqueous solution on TCE photodegradation was studied. SEM results revealed that the particle size of Degussa P-25 was smaller than those of both KIER TiO_2 and Aldrich TiO_2. Photocatalytic activity was decreased with addition of 0.lwt% H_2O_2 except KIER TiO_2. The optimum activity obtained when the pH of aqueous solution was 9 with Degussa P-25. And photocatalytic activity of Degussa P-25 and M-TiO_2 was almost same when the aqueous solution pH was 9.

전국 관청의 금연프로그램 실시 현황과 문제점

The purpose of this study is to investigate the conditions and problems of anti-smoking education programs in government offices for civil servants. A mail-in survey was carried out for the chief of the general affairs of 248 government offices. 1. There were 154 responses to the surveys. Only 34 govermental offices have carried out anti-smoking education programs for civil servants. 2. Only one office has a department to supervise an anti-smoking program. 17 offices have 1 worker and thirteen offices have no manpower to supervise anti-smoking program. 3. Only eight offices have budgeted for anti-smoking programs. The average budget was 3,750,000Won. Expected budget for smoking cessation program was 7,500,000 Won. 4. 25 offices have an anti-smoking lecture program for civil servants. Only five offices have an anti-smoking counseling services for smokers. 5. Only seven surveys responded that civil servants had a positive response to anti-smoking programs. 6. The most important problem of anti-smoking programs in governmental offices was the lack of concern of civil servants. Governmental offices have to provide the greatest administrative services and services concerning the quality of life for citizens. Anti-smoking education programs in governmental offices for civil servants was the beginning of an activity of the services concerning the quality of life for citizens. Governmental offices have to actively implement anti-smoking programs for civil servants.

림프관 확장증형 모기질종 1예

Pilomatricoma is a benign adnexal tumor differentiating toward elements of the hair matrix and shaft. It typically presents as a solitary, deep, dermal nodule, but other variants, such as anetodermic form and pseudo-bullous form have rarely been reported. A 22-year-old man presented with erythematous 4×5㎝ sized bulla-like nodule of about 1 month history on the upper back. Histopathologic examination of the lesion showed a well-circumscribed dermal nodule composed of basophilic cells, shadow cells, and transitional cells. There were also marked lymphangiectatic dilatations above the tumor in the upper dermis. We diagnosed this case as a lymphangiectatic pilomatricoma with pseudo-bullous appearance. 첫 입원치료 받은 정신분열병 환자들의 삶의 질 추적 연구

울산의대 서울중앙병원 정신과에서 첫 입원 치료를 받고 퇴원하여 2년 혹은 5년이 경과한 정신분열병과 기타 정신병 108명 중 최종 73명(응답을 66%)을 대상으로 Heinrichs등이 고안한 삶의 질 척도(Quality of Life Scale)를 사용하여 현재의 삶의 질을 평가하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 삶의 질 측면 4가지 측면인 대인관계, 직업적 역할, 정신내적 요소, 및 일상적인 물건 및 행동 모두에서 삶의 질이 전반적으로 저하되어 있음을 관찰할 수 있었다. 대인 관계 영역 중 가족 구성원과의 인적 관계 항목은 다른 항목에 비해 상대적으로 만족도가 높았다. 둘째, 정신분열병군의 삶의 질은 기타 정신병군에 비해 대부분의 삶의 질 항목에서 유의하게 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 2년 경과군과 5년 경과군 사이 삶의 질은 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 발병 초기 삶의 질 저하가 상당기간 유지됨을 시사하였다. 넷째. 퇴원 후 삶의 질에 영향을 미치는 변인으로는 첫 입원 치료 기간이 유의한 역상관관계를 보였으며 또한 다변량 회귀 분석에 있어서도 같은 결과를 보였다. 이는 초기 치료에 대한 반응 정도가 부분적으로는 향후 삶의 질을 예측할 수 있음을 시사한다. 기타 첫 입원 당시의 연령, 교육 수준. 사회경제적 수준, 첫 입원하기까지의 이환 기간, 첫 입원 당시 Global Assessment of Functioning 입원 치료시 약물용량 등은 삶의 질과 유의한 상관관계를 보이지 않았다. Objectives : One object of this study is to provide a descriptive level of qua1ity of life(QOL) in a group of the first admired schizophrenic patients through interviews being performed after two or five yeah of fo11ow-up, and comparing them with patients in psychotic disorders other than schizophrenia. Another object is to identify clinical variables on the first admission which correlate to QOL factors, after two or five years of fo11ow up. Methods : A total of 73 subjects of the first admitted patients with schizophrenia(n=57) and psychotic disorders other than schizophrenia(other psychotic disorders group, n= 16) were selected. A Quality of Life Scale(QLS) measuring 21 items of life variables was used. Demographic and psychiatric data were obtained through medical records and psychiatric interviews. Results : Schizophrenia group(n=57) showed moderate decrease(mean 3.7 of 6) in all aspect of quality of life. However, the schizophrenia group displayed a relatively high score in relations with household members(mean=5.2) only among 21 QOL items. Comparison to other psychotic disorders group(n= 16), schizophrenia group showed a significant decrease in almost all aspects of QOL. No significant difference was obtained between the 2 year(n=27) and the 5year(n= 30) group. Duration of the first admission showed a significant correlation with current quality of life in the schizophrenic group. Conclusions : The significantly decreased score of quality of life suggests the need for careful observation and therapeutic concern for the early stage of schizophrenia. The schizophrenic group's relatively high score in relations with household members in this period may provide the importance of rehabilitation to improve their quality of life. Duration of the first admission may be a useful predictor of their subsequent quality of life.

We have encountered a rare case of symmetrical peripheral gangrene complicating Escherichia coli sepsis in a 47-years-old male. He was successfully treated with antibiotics, anticoagulants, and vasodilator. To our knowledge, this is the first report on symmetrical peripheral gangrene complicating E. coli sepsis in Korea.

Case Reports : Short-Term Clinical Observation of Acute Retinal Pigment Epitheliitis Using Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography

We investigated the case of a young man with blurred vision in his left eye. His visual acuity was slightly decreased, and ophthalmoscopy disclosed a gray-white lesion in the macula. He had no systemic or ocular history. On the visual field test, the threshold sensitivity was decreased in the corresponding region. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) demonstrated a disruption in the photoreceptor inner and outer segment (IS/OS) junction and undulation of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) with backscattering. We re-examined the patient after two weeks and after three months without any treatment. Visual acuity and visual field results were gradually normalized, and OCT demonstrated the recovery of continuity in the photoreceptor IS/OS junction, as well as decreased RPE irregularity with minimal backscattering. We used spectral domain OCT instead of time domain OCT (OCT3) so that we could provide better image resolution of the acute retinal pigment epitheliitis (ARPE). Finally, we observed recovery of the functional and anatomical changes in the ARPE patient with a resolution of the condition within three months following the initial examination, using OCT and visual field tests.

The Effect of Guard on Improving the Resistance to Tracking Phenomenon for the PCB

As the need for safe and eco-friendly transportation increases, the electronization of transportation sector is expected to increase explosively. This will lead to increase the use of printed circuit boards (PCBs). The PCBs used for transportation have a poor operating environment, but are required long-term reliability. Therefore, PCBs used in transportation are required to have strong resistance to tracking phenomenon from moisture or contamination. A basic sample was fabricated using a PCB and characteristics of tracking phenomenon were investigated. An improved sample with a guard installed on the basic sample was made, and the resistance to tracking phenomenon was measured experimentally. The function of the guard was investigated through thermal distribution analysis, electric fi eld analysis, and current waveform measurement. By using the guard, the resistance to tracking phenomenon of the PCB increased by approximately 2.88 times. The guard changed the location of the dry band by conducting heat to the outside and retaining the electrolyte at the electrode tip. The strength of the discharge was weak, and the discharge appeared dispersed. As a result, the generation and growth of carbonization were delayed. The resistance to tracking phenomenon of the PCB used for transportation could be improved by using the guard. And the result of this study can be used as the basic knowledge necessary to implement this improvement in the PCBs

Clinical Usefulness of Binocular Multifocal Electroretinography in Patients with Monocular Macular Disease

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical usefulness of binocular multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) by comparing results with conventional monocular mfERG in patients with monocular macular disease. Methods: mfERG testing was conducted on 32 patients with monocular macular disease and 30 normal subjects. An initial mfERG was simultaneously recorded from both eyes with two recording electrodes under binocular stimulation. A second mfERG was subsequently recorded with conventional monocular stimulation. Amplitudes and implicit times of each ring response of the binocular and monocular recordings were compared. Ring ratios of the binocular and monocular recording were also compared. Results: In the macular disease group, there were no statistical differences in amplitude or implicit time for each of the five concentric rings between the monocular and binocular recordings. However, with binocular simulation, the ring ratios (ring1 / ring4, ring1 / ring5) were significantly reduced in the affected eye. In the normal control group, there were no statistical differences in any parameters between the monocular and binocular recordings. Conclusions: Binocular mfERG could be a good alternative to the conventional monocular test. In addition, given that the test needs stable fixation of the affected eye during the binocular test, the reliability of the test results could be improved, especially for patients with monocular macular disease.
