Pre-reservation of Resources and Controlled Loops for Contention Resolution in OBS Networks
Jaume Comellas,Josep Conesa,Salvatore Spadaro,Gabriel Junyent 한국전자통신연구원 2007 ETRI Journal Vol.29 No.5
A new scheme to alleviate contention in optical burst switching networks is proposed. It consists of preventively reserving resources in a node, to be used if resources are busy on the next hop node. The burst is sent back to the preceding node and then resent forward. Simulations are carried out to assess the feasibility of the proposed scheme. Its performance is compared with that of contention resolution based on deflection routing.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping with transvaginal ultrasound-guided myometrial injection of radiotracer (TUMIR) to detect lymph node (LN) metastases, in patients with intermediate and high-risk endometrial cancer (EC), focusing on its performance to detect paraaortic involvement. Methods: Prospective study including women with preoperative intermediate or high-risk EC, according to ESMO-ESGO-ESTRO consensus, who underwent SLN mapping using the TUMIR approach. SLNs were preoperatively localized by planar and single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography images, and intraoperatively by gamma-probe. Immediately after SLN excision, all women underwent systematic pelvic and paraaortic lymphadenectomy by laparoscopy. Results: The study included 102 patients. The intraoperative SLN detection rate was79.4% (81/102). Pelvic and paraaortic drainage was observed in 92.6% (75/81) and 45.7% (37/81) women, respectively, being exclusively paraaortic in 7.4% (6/81). After systematic lymphadenectomy, LN metastases were identified in 19.6% (20/102) patients, with 45.0% (9/20) showing paraaortic involvement, which was exclusive in 15.0% (3/20). The overall sensitivity and negative predictive value (NPV) of SLNs by the TUMIR approach to detect lymphatic involvement were 87.5% and 97.0%, respectively; and 83.3% and 96.9%, for paraaortic metastases. After applying the MSKCC SLN mapping algorithm, the sensitivity and NPV were 93.8% and 98.5%, respectively. Conclusion: The TUMIR method provides valuable information of endometrial drainage in patients at higher risk of paraaortic LN involvement. The TUMIR approach showed a detection rate of paraaortic SLNs greater than 45% and a high sensitivity and NPV for paraaortic metastases in women with intermediate and high-risk EC.
Non-resonant Element in Slotted Ground Plane for Multiband Antenna Operation

New ways of achieving small, multiband, multifunctional, and standard solutions for mobilehandset antennas are demanded in the current wirelessmarket. A non-resonant element of 5 mm × 5 mm × 5 mm,a matching network, and a 100 mm × 40 mm slottedground plane are proposed to satisfy mobile marketdemands that require multiband operation and smallantenna solutions. The main advantage of the proposeddesign is that with only one non-resonant element ofconsiderably small size (0.015, 900 MHz), the handset iscapable of providing operation at mobile bands.

An alternative for the study of co-occurring syndromes is the empirically derived Latent Profile Analysis (LPA). Due to the apparent non-existence of research using this method with a wide variety of psychological symptoms, the aim of the present study comprised the empirical determination of their patterns. After identifying the latent subgroups, the second objective of the study was to analyze their differences concerning symptom severity, use of coping strategies, selected social support variables, personality traits, and sociodemographic variables. The sample (n= 918) was collected through the Internet and, employing van der Waerden's non-parametric test, differences were evaluated between the five profiles found. The results evidenced considerable effect sizes regarding hostility and no significant differences for extraversion. After controlling for demographic variables and personality traits, adaptive coping strategies showed no significant differences. It was concluded that future research should further study hostility as a possible link between high and low levels of the symptoms analyzed and their associations with perceived understanding, emotional support received, and availability of emotional support as protective factors.

Photographic identification methods are of highly importance when it comes to reduce the animal's stress, pain and possible injuries during or after marking techniques and thus to increase the reliability of demographic parameter estimates. There is plenty of software available for photo-identification, allowing individual identification in capture-mark-recapture (CMR) methods using body patterns, spots and marks unique to each individual. However, these non-invasive methods have hardly ever been used with arthropods. In this study, APHIS (Automated PHoto Identification Suite) has been assessed as a software capable of identifying individuals in different samplings during catch-and-release sessions with dead specimens under laboratory conditions. For this individual identification, SPM (Spot Pattern Matching) and ITM (Image Template Matching) procedures were tested; achieving a success of 100% and 95.35%, respectively. In SPM, the software itself matched the specimens almost automatically in half of the cases. However, it resulted more time-consuming than ITM during the pre-processing of images. On the other hand, ITM saves time during this step and still is able to detect recaptures accurately, yet more time may be needed when selecting the recaptures from the candidate list. Thus, it can be attested that APHIS is a competent and efficient software regarding photo-identification of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and species with similar and unique individual colour patterns in their pronotum.
