Reliability analysis of simply supported beam using GRNN, ELM and GPR
Jagan J,Pijush Samui,김두기 국제구조공학회 2019 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.71 No.6
This article deals with the application of reliability analysis for determining the safety of simply supported beam under the uniformly distributed load. The uncertainties of the existing methods were taken into account and hence reliability analysis has been adopted. To accomplish this aim, Generalized Regression Neural Network (GRNN), Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) models are developed. Reliability analysis is the probabilistic style to determine the possibility of failure free operation of a structure. The application of probabilistic mathematics into the quantitative aspects of a structure and improve the qualitative aspects of a structure. In order to construct the GRNN, ELM and GPR models, the dataset contains Modulus of Elasticity (E), Load intensity (w) and performance function () in which E and w are inputs and is the output. The achievement of the developed models was weighed by various statistical parameters; one among the most primitive parameter is Coefficient of Determination (R2) which has 0.998 for training and 0.989 for testing. The GRNN outperforms the other ELM and GPR models. Other different statistical computations have been carried out, which speaks out the errors and prediction performance in order to justify the capability of the developed models.
The Challenges of Malaysian Dry Ports Development
Jagan JEEVAN,Shu-Ling CHEN,Eon-seong Lee 한국해운물류학회 2015 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.31 No.1
This paper examines the functions and challenges of dry ports development in Malaysia through 11 face-to-face interviews with dry port stakeholders. The findings reveal that Malaysian dry ports are developed to accelerate national and international business, to activate intermodalism in the nation, to promote regional economic development and to enhance seaport competitiveness. Malaysian dry ports perform the function of transport and logistics, information processing, seaports and value-added services. Challenges facing Malaysian dry ports include insufficient railway tracks, unorganized container planning on the rail deck, highly dependent on single mode of transportation, poor recognition from the seaport community, and competition from localized seaports. This paper further indicates strategies for coping with these challenges and identifies future opportunities for Malaysian dry ports development.
Effect of certain trimethoxy flavones on paclitaxel - induced peripheral neuropathy in mice
Jagan Nadipelly,Vijaykumar Sayeli,Parimala Kadhirvelu,Jaikumar Shanmugasundaram,Binoy Varghese Cheriyan,Viswanathan Subramanian 한국한의학연구원 2018 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.7 No.2
Background: The anti - nociceptive effect of 7, 2′, 3′ – trimethoxy flavone, 7, 2′, 4′ – trimethoxy flavone, 7, 3′, 4′ – trimethoxy flavone and 7, 5, 4′ – trimethoxy flavone against inflammatory, neurogenic and thermal pain in mice was reported earlier. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of the above trimethoxy flavones in amelioration of peripheral neuropathy induced by paclitaxel. Methods: Peripheral neuropathy was induced in mice by administration of a single i.p. dose (10 mg/kg) of paclitaxel. The manifestations of peripheral neuropathy such as tactile allodynia, cold allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia were assessed 24 h later by employing hair aesthesiometer test, acetone bubble test and hot water tail immersion test respectively. Further, the role of inflammatory cytokines like TNF – α, IL - 1β and free radicals in the action of trimethoxy flavones was investigated using in vitro assays. Results: The test compounds dose dependently attenuated paclitaxel - induced tactile allodynia, cold allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia in mice. The test compounds inhibited TNF – α, IL - 1β and free radicals in a concentration dependent manner. Conclusion: The investigated trimethoxy flavones attenuated paclitaxel – induced peripheral neuropathy in mice. The inhibition of cytokines and free radicals in addition to many neuronal mechanisms reported earlier may contribute to this beneficial effect.
Asymptotic Characteristics of MSE-Optimal Scalar Quantizers for Generalized Gamma Sources
Jagan Rhee(이재건),Sangsin Na(나상신) 한국통신학회 2012 韓國通信學會論文誌 Vol.37 No.5A
Characteristics, such as the support limit and distortions, of minimum mean-squared error (MSE) N-level uniform and nonuniform scalar quantizers are studied for the family of the generalized gamma density functions as N increases. For the study, MSE-optimal scalar quantizers are designed at integer rates from 1 to 16 bits/sample, and their characteristics are compared with corresponding asymptotic formulas. The results show that the support limit formulas are generally accurate. They also show that the distortion of nonuniform quantizers is observed to converge to the Panter-Dite asymptotic constant, whereas the distortion of uniform quantizers exhibits slow or even stagnant convergence to its corresponding Hui-Neuhoff asymptotic constant at the studied rate range, though it may stay at a close proximity to the asymptotic constant for the Rayleigh and Laplacian pdfs. Additional terms in the asymptote result in quite considerable accuracy improvement, making the formulas useful especially when rate is 8 or greater.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of malocclusion and its relationship with dental caries among school children in southern India. Methods: This crosssectional study included 1,800 students aged 11 - 15 years whose Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) and dentition status were recorded and analyzed. The chi-square test, ANOVA, and Spearman’s correlation tests were carried out. Results: The mean DAI score ± the standard deviation was 18.61 ± 6.1. Approximately 85% of the students (83.0% males, 86.8% females) had DAI scores of < 26 and were classified as not requiring orthodontic treatment. One tenth of the sample had mean DAI scores between 26 - 30 (indicating definite malocclusion and elective treatment), while about 3% had mean scores between 31 - 35 (indicating severe malocclusion and treatment desirability). Only 29 children (1.6%; 16 boys, 13 girls) had a DAI score of > 35, which suggested very severe or handicapping malocclusion requiring mandatory treatment. The mean decayed, missing, filled teeth (DMFT) was 2.28 ± 1.47. A DMFT of > 0 was observed in 91.8% of the study subjects. Children with a DAI score of > 35 were found to have significantly (p < 0.001) higher caries experience as compared to other children. Moreover, the DAI scores showed a significant correlation with the mean DMFT scores (r = 0.368, p < 0.05). Conclusions: A positive correlation was found between the severity of malocclusion and dental caries.
