To date, research has rarely focused how a summer camp influences at-risk boys’ motivation and physical activity through a self-determination theory. This study examined changes of motivational and physical measures among at-risk boys participating in a summer sports camp. One hundred at-risk boys, aged 10-13 years, participated in a three week camp session. Two questionnaires and an endurance activity were completed by the boys as pre and post-tests. Results revealed amotivation increased and intrinsic regulation decreased across the camp session. Also, the boys’ endurance performance did not significantly change across the camp period. Findings suggest programs allowing more camper-centered choices and de-emphasizing competition may promote increased motivation and physical performance of at-risk boys.
Predictors of Intention for Future Taekwondo Activity among Korean Adolescents

Purpose: Self-Determination Theory (SDT) is a validating framework used to explain the antecedents and outcomes of physical activity related to motivation of adolescents. To date, SDT research based has not focused on intention for future Taekwondo activity of Korean adolescents through psychological needs (i.e., autonomy, competence, and relatedness) and self-determined motivation (i.e., external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, and intrinsic regulation) as explainable predictors. Thus, this study investigates predictors of intention for future Taekwondo activity among Korean adolescents. Methods: Participants of this study were 104 adolescents (male = 74, female = 30) aged 13-18 yrs. They were asked to complete three well-validated questionnaires responding on a 5-point Likert-scale about their perceptions for Taekwondo activities in a Taekwondo gym. Results: Multiple regression analysis showed adolescents’ psychological needs and self-determined motivational regulations significantly predicted their intention for future Taekwondo activity, F(3, 99) = 23.779, p < 0.001 and F(4, 97) = 16.910, p < 0.001, relatively. Based on standardized coefficients, adolescents’ perceived competence (β = 0.362, p < 0.01) was the only significant predictor for intention for future Taekwondo activity. Also, adolescents’ intention for future Taekwondo activity was significantly predicted by intrinsic regulation and external regulation (β = 0.495, p < 0.01; β = -0.203, p < 0.05, respectfully). Conclusions: Perceived psychological needs and self-determined motivation were predictors for intention for future Taekwondo activity among Korean adolescents. Particularly, if adolescents have perceived competence for engaging in Taekwondo activity, they are will-ing to constantly participate in Taekwondo activity. In addition, if adolescents have intrinsic regulation, such as enjoyment and pleasure, and do not have external pressures from others for doing Taekwondo activity, they are more likely to re-participate Taekwondo activity.

Preoperative patient analysis for oral cancer involves multiple considerations that are based on multiple factors; these include TNM stages, histopathologic findings, and adjacent anatomical structures. Once the decision is made to excise the lesion, the margin of dissection and its extent should be considered along with the best form of reconstruction and airway management. Treatment methods include surgical resection, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Although the combined method of treatment is controversial, surgical resection is considered predominantly, and immediate reconstruction after surgical resection follows. The choice of treatment is dictated by the anticipated functional and esthetic results of treatment and also by the availability of a surgeon with the required expertise. Segmental mandibulectomy with primary reconstruction has been shown to have advantages in both functional and esthetic results. A 52-year-old male patient with basaloid squamous cell carcinoma of the floor of the mouth, and the anterior portion of the mandible was treated with surgical procedures that included segmental mandibulectomy with both supraomohyoid neck dissection (SOHND) at Levels I-III and mandible reconstruction with a left fibula free flap. A 55-year-old male patient with clear cell odontogenic carcinoma of the oral cavity underwent segmental mandibulectomy with both SOHND at Levels I-III and mandible reconstruction with a left fibula free flap. The purpose of this study was to review the anatomic and functional results of patients after immediate reconstruction with a fibula free flap following resection of carcinoma in the anterior portion of the mandible and floor of the mouth.

This study examines motivators of self-regulated learning (SRL) among at-risk elementaryschool students participating in the physical activity component of an after school program in a rural Southwest U.S. school district. Motivational regulations were used to predict student performance on an endurance task. One hundred seventy-one participants from the 3rd to 6th grade completed the Self-Regulation Questionnaire and engaged in an endurance run. Thirty-six students responded to a semi-structured interview that assessed perceptions of the after school physical activity program. Results revealed boys and girls endorsed equally the four regulatory categories and while they were not predictive of performance on the endurance run, boys significantly outperformed girls on the task. Despite indicators of an externally regulated environment, student perceptions of the physical activity component were positive and provided evidence of autonomous regulation.
