Design of PCB Embedded Balanced-to-unbalanced WiMax Duplexer Using Coupled LC Resonators

In this paper, PCB embedded balanced-to-unbalamced duplexer using coupled LC resonator was introduced for low cost dualband WiMax front-end-module application. In order to obtain the function of bandpass filter and balun transformer, proposed duplexer was configured by using magnetically coupled LC resonator. Out-of-band suppression was enhanced by applying two m-Derived transform circuits to obtain transmission zeros at 2㎓ and 4.8㎓. In order to reduce the size of embedded duplexer, BaSrTiO₃ (BST) composite high Dk RCC film was applied to improve the capacitance density. This high Dk film provided the capacitance density of 12.2 ㎊/㎟. The simulation results shows that fabricated duplexer had an insertion loss of 2.9㏈ and 5.5㏈ and return loss of 15㏈ and 16㏈ for 2.5㎓~2.6㎓ and 3.5㎓~3.6㎓, respectively. The maximum magnitude and phase imbalance were 0.01㏈ and 0.17㏈, and 1degree and 2degree in its passband, respectively. The out-of-band suppression was observed approximately 29㏈ and 40㏈ below 1.9㎓ and over 4.5㎓, respectively. It has a volume of 6 ㎜ × 7 ㎜ × 0.7 ㎜ (height).

무선 모바일 통신 시장의 성장에 따라 수동 소자로 구성된 모듈에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 수동소자를 이용한 Wi-MAX용 트리플렉서를 설계하였다. 트리플렉서는 Wi-MAX의 RF Front-end단 앞부분에 연결되며, IEEE 802.16에 따른 2㎓, 3㎓, 5㎓ 대역을 선택, 분리해주는 역할을 한다. 제안된 트리플렉서는 저역 통과필터, 대역통과필터, 고역통과필터로 구성하였으며, 수동소자의 최소화로 인해 삽입손실 향상을 중점으로 설계하였다. 회로해석 결과, 각 대역별 (2/3/5㎓) 삽입손실은 각각 -0.5㏈, -0.6㏈, -0.4㏈ 였으며, 반사 손실은 -20㏈, -20㏈, -12㏈, 격리도는 -20㏈, -24㏈, -25㏈의 특성을 보였다. 수동 소자의 최소화 설계로 인해 모듈 및 시스템의 저가화를 기대할 수 있다.

In this paper, sol-gel-spin coated Pb(ZrTi)O₃ thin film with ZrO₂ buffer-layer and PbTiO₃ seed-layer was investigated for vibration MEMS energy harvester to scavenge power from ambient vibration via d33 piezoelectric mode. Piezoelectric thin film deposition techniques on insulating layer is the important key for d₃₃ mode of piezoelectric vibration energy harvester. ZrO₂ buff-layer was utilized as an insulating layer. PbTIO₃ seed-layer was applied as an inter-layer between PZT and ZrO₂ layer to improve the crystalline of PZT thin film. The fabricated PZT thin film had a remanent polarization of 5.3ㄹuC/㎠ and the coercive field of 60㎸/㎝. The fabricated energy harvester using PZT thin film with PTO seed-layer generated 1.1㎼ of electrical power to 2.2MΩ of load with 4.4V<SUB>pvp</SUB> from vibration of 0.39g at 528㎐.
FR-4 Embedded UWB Filter using Uniform Impedance Resonator

In this paper, a novel embedded ultra wideband (UWB) band-pass filter is presented on a FR-4 package substrate including high Dk resin coated copper (εr=30) film. The proposed UWB filter is comprised of a parallel resonator with meander-type uniform impedance resonator (UIR) and two series resonators with high Q circular stacked spiral inductor and metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor. In order to obtain excellent attenuation characteristics by generating attenuation poles in lower and upper stop bands, a single MIM capacitor is added to each resonator. The fabricated FR-4 embedded UWB filter has insertion loss of -l.0㏈ and return loss of -11㏈, respectively. It has also extremely wide bandwidth (over 50%) and small size (3.7 × 4 × 0.77 ㎣) which is compatible with LTCC devices.
UHF대역 TV 튜너에 적용을 위한 가변형 대역통과필터

In this paper, a tunable bandpass filter with mutual inductive coupling circuits is newly designed and demonstrated for UHF TV tuner ranged from Ch.14(473㎒) to Ch.69(803㎒) applications. Conventional RF tuning circuit with an electromagnetic bandpass filter has several problems such as large size, high volume and high cost, since the electromagnetic filter is comprised of several passive components and air core inductors to be assembled and controlled manually. To address these obstacles, peaking chip inductor was newly applied for constructing the mutual inductive coupling circuit. The proposed circuit was newly and optimally designed, since the chip inductor showed lower components Q-value than the air core inductor. A varactor diode has been also used to fabricate the proposed tunable bandpass filter for RF tuning circuit. The fabricated tunable filter exhibited low insertion loss of approximately -3㏈, high return loss of below -10㏈, and large tuning bandwidth of 330㎒.

In this paper, PCB (Printed Circuit Board) embedded BaTiO₃ MIM capacitors were designed, fabricated, and characterized for low cost organic SOP applications by using 3-D EM simulator and low temperature processes. Size of electrodes and thickness of high dielectric films are optimized for improving the performance characteristics of the proposed embedded MIM capacitors at high frequency regime. The selected thicknesses of the BaTiO₃ film are 12㎛, 16㎛, and 20㎛. The fabricated MIM capacitor with dielectric constant of 30 and thickness of 12㎛ has capacitance density of 21.5 pF/㎟ at l00㎒, maximum quality factor of 37.4 at 300 ㎒, a quality factor of 30.9 at 1㎓, self resonant frequency of 5.4 ㎓, respectively. The measured capacitances and quality factors are well matched with 3-D EM simulated ones. These embedded capacitors are promising for SOP based advanced electronic systems with various functionality, low cost, small size and volume.
Theoretical Analysis and Modeling for PCB Embedded Tunable Filter with Inductive Coupling

Fully embedded tunable bandpass filter (BPF) with inductive coupling circuits is newly designed and demonstrated for UHF TV tuner ranged from 500㎒ to 900㎒ receivers. Conventional RF tuning circuit with an electromagnetic coupled tunable filter has several problems such as large size, high volume, and high cost, since the electromagnetic coupled filter is comprised of several passive components and air coreinductors to be assembled and controlled manually. To address these obstacles, compact tunable filter with inductive coupling circuit was embedded into low cost organic package substrate. The embedded filter was optimally designed to have high performance by using high Q spiral stacked inductors, high dielectric BaTiO₃ composite MIM capacitors, varactor diodes. It exhibited low insertion loss of approximately -2㏈, high return loss of below -10㏈, and large tuning range of 56.3%. It has an extremely compact size of 3.4 × 4.4 × 0.5㎣.
