Influence of Infliximab on Cytokines Network and Markers of Bone Remodeling in Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

        Izabela Korczowska,Jan Krzysztof Lacki,Pawel Hrycaj 연세대학교의과대학 2013 Yonsei medical journal Vol.54 No.1

Purpose: Our aim was to determine the effects of infliximab on bone mineral metabolism in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and analyze the relationship between inflammatory markers of acute phase thought to play a major role in bone remodeling. Materials and Methods: 36 patients with established RA were investigated. All patients underwent physical examination and blood and urinary analysis at baseline, 2 weeks, 14 weeks, 6 months and 12 months after the initiation of treatment. The serum levels of: tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), tumor necrosis factor alpha receptor 1 (TNFR1), TNFR2, interleukin 6 (IL-6), IL-17, IL-23 and markers of bone remodeling such as osteocalcin (BGP), deoxypyridynoline (Dpd), and N-telopeptide of type I collagen (NTx) were measured by ELISA. Results: The results showed significant decrease of all the above cytokines levels in RA patients in comparison with those after 2 weeks of treatment. After 6 months, the markers of bone formation and resorption decreased compared to baseline values. We found positive correlation between the levels of NTx and the levels of IL-6, IL-17 and TNFR1, and between the levels of Dpd and IL-6 and Dpd and TNFR2, whereas negative correlation between BGP and IL-23. After 12 months the positive association was found at the BGP level and IL-6 as well as Dpd and the level of IL-6. We also observed a positive relation between Dpd and TNF-alpha and negative between BGP and TNFR1. Conclusion:We suggest that infliximab treatment may limit the risk of osteoporosis in RA patients.

Mechanical analysis of conventional and small diameter conical implant abutments

Izabela Cristina Maurl′cio Moris,Adriana Cla′udia Lapria Faria,Maria da Gloria Chiarello de Mattos,Ricardo Faria Ribeiro,Renata Cristina Silveira Rodrigues 대한치과보철학회 2012 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.4 No.3

PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to evaluate if a smaller morse taper abutment has a negative effect on the fracture resistance of implant-abutment connections under oblique compressive loads compared to a conventional abutment. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twenty morse taper conventional abutments (4.8 mm diameter) and smaller abutments (3.8 mm diameter) were tightened (20 Ncm) to their respective implants (3.5 * 11 mm) and after a 10 minute interval, implant/abutment assemblies were subjected to static compressive test, performed in a universal test machine with 1 mm/min displacement, at 45 degree inclination. The maximum deformation force was determined. Data were statistically analyzed by student t test. RESULTS. Maximum deformation force of 4.8 mm and 3.8 mm abutments was approximately 95.33 kgf and 95.25 kgf, respectively, but no fractures were noted after mechanical test. Statistical analysis demonstrated that the evaluated abutments were statistically similar (P=.230). CONCLUSION. Abutment measuring 3.8 mm in diameter (reduced) presented mechanical properties similar to 4.8 mm (conventional) abutments, enabling its clinical use as indicated.

Novel sugar-based nickel-tungsten carbide catalysts for dry reforming of hydrocarbons

        Izabela Wysocka,Natalia Czaplicka,Ewelina Pawelczyk,Jakub Karczewski,Joanna Sobczak,Zuzanna Bielan,Michał Maciejewski,Barbara Koscielska,Andrzej Rogala 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.124 No.-

The search for new materials for dry reforming of hydrocarbons with high activity, stability, and ease ofsynthesis is still one of the main directions of research in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. Traditionalmethods of carbide synthesis require the use of combustible gases of petrochemical origin. The search fornew catalysts based on renewable and safe carbon sources is highly demanded. Therefore, we report WCand Ni-WC catalysts prepared using glucose, sucrose, fructose and trehalose. The materials were characterizedusing XRD, AAS, H2-TPR, SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, CO2-TPD, TG/DTG BET and BJHmethods. The catalytic activity was investigated in the dry reforming of methane and plastics. The sugartype used for the preparation determined crystal structure and therefore catalytic properties of Ni-WCcatalysts. The most active and stable catalyst was prepared using sucrose. It was observed that catalystsobtained with the use of sugars containing fructose in their structure are characterized by smaller WCand Ni crystallites, which have a direct impact on high catalytic activity. The catalytic activity of the mostactive catalyst Ni-WC_S was examined in the dry reforming of plastics. The highest syngas generation wasobserved for low-density polyethylene reforming reaching 75.58 mmol/g plastic.

        Izabela G. Barbosa,Gabriela Neves Vaz,Natalia Pessoa Rocha,Rodrigo Machado-Vieira,Marcio Rogerio Diniz Ventura,Rodrigo B. Huguet,Moises E. Bauer,MIchael Berk,Antônio L. Teixeira 대한정신약물학회 2017 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.15 No.3

Objective: Patients with bipolar disorder (BD) exhibit peripheral low-grade inflammation. The aim of the current study was to investigate the involvement of hitherto unexplored components of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily in BD. Methods: Eighty patients with type I BD and 50 healthy controls matched for age and gender were enrolled in this study. All subjects were assessed with the Mini-Plus to evaluate psychiatric comorbidities; the Young Mania Rating Scale and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale to evaluate manic and depressive symptoms severity, respectively. TNF superfamily molecules (TNF, TNF-related weak inducer of apoptosis [TWEAK], TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand [TRAIL], soluble TNF receptor type 1 [sTNFR1], and soluble TNF receptor type 2 [sTNFR2]) levels were measured by ELISA. Results: Patients with BD, regardless of mood state, presented increased plasma levels of sTNFR1 and TWEAK in comparison with controls. Conclusion: These findings corroborate the view that TNF superfamily may play a role in BD pathophysiology.

Oxidization of hydrogen sulphide in biogas by manganese (IV) oxide particles

        Izabela Konkol,Jan Cebula,Adam Cenian 대한환경공학회 2021 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.26 No.2

Hydrogen sulphide is corrosive to most metallic equipment such as pipelines, compressors, gas storage tanks, engines, turbines and other units. It acts as a strong poison for fuel cells and its combustion leads to SO₂ emissions. Due to the problems associated with hydrogen sulphide, it is critical to remove it from biogas before further processing. The removal of hydrogen sulphide from biogas using MnO₂, which acts as a sorbent and catalyst, was investigated. The research was conducted in a full-scale agriculture biogas plant using chicken manure and maize silage as substrate. The manganese dioxide (manganese (IV) oxide) was derived from the waste products of a water conditioning system, after manganese removal from drinking water. The obtained results showed significantly better adsorption of hydrogen sulphide and faster regeneration of the bed compared to the bed filled with hydrated iron oxides. The H₂S concentration in the treated biogas dropped from about 1,650 to 0-5 ppm.

      • Can Bulgarian Yogurt enhance astronauts’ performance during the Mars Missions?

        Shopova Izabela,Bogueva Diana,Yotova Maria,Danova Svetla 한국식품연구원 2023 Journal of Ethnic Foods Vol.10 No.46

Probiotics (pro-for and bio- health) from yogurt are one of the most effective means to stimulate and strengthen the immune system. They help balance and regulate the digestive system, as well as preserve and enrich the gut microbiome. Maintaining a healthy gut microbiome is crucial for human health and well-being, especially for astronauts living in confined and stressful environments, such as those on a mission to Mars. One way to promote gut microbiome diversity is through diet, and Bulgarian yogurt (kiselo mlyako in Bulgarian: киceлo млякo) made with Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus has shown positive effects on gut health. This paper explores the potential of regular production and consumption of gut-beneficial foods, such as yogurt, during space travel. It analyses whether the dietary limitations and challenges in providing varied and fresh food for astronauts could be addressed through the addition and daily consumption of Bulgarian yogurt. To investigate this, we conducted an experiment with a team of analog astronauts participating in a two-week analog mission in a closed, Mars-like environment at the Mars Desert Research Station in the Utah desert, the USA. In compliment to all recognized health effects of yogurt, the analog astronauts reported that it can be easily prepared and had a positive effect on their overall well-being and gut health. Our study demonstrated the feasibility of incorporating freshly made yogurt into the astronauts’ diet and its potential to significantly contribute to achieving good health and well-being, which is an important goal in the colonization of other planets, such as Mars.

An introduction to the “The role of inclusion, diversity, equity, & access (IDEA) in today’s global marketing environment” special issue

        Rynarzewska Ania Izabela,Tanner John F. (Jeff),Edmondson Diane R. 한국마케팅과학회 2024 마케팅과학연구 Vol.34 No.1

Despite the recent acceleration in business commitment to improve Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), inequalities linked to diversity and inclusion continue to persist (Bernstein et al., 2020). DEI incorporates procedural and distributive justice within society including organizations and institutions. DEI represents three elements: diversity, equity, and inclusion. Diversity exemplifies real or perceived differences between individuals with respect to demographic and socio-cultural differences such as sex, religion, race, ethnicity, age, physical or mental abilities, sexual orientation, thought, or economic background. Equity is predominantly concerned with fairness and impartiality in terms of both opportunities and outcomes. Finally, inclusion refers to the presence, belongingness, and incorporation of diverse groups particularly in spaces that were traditionally underrepresented or marginalized (Arsel et al., 2022; Bell et al., 2009; Johnson & Chichirau, 2020; Park et al., 2023)

Effects of empathy and egoism on CSR perceptions and consumer buycotts: Lessons learned during global crisis in support of equitable business practices

        Rynarzewska Ania Izabela,LeMay Stephen A.,Helms Marilyn M.,Hetrick Eliza 한국마케팅과학회 2024 마케팅과학연구 Vol.34 No.1

Consumer polarization leading to buycotts and boycotts was magnified by the global crisis of 2020–2021 which changed consumer priorities and business practices: in-person shopping decreased, while social distancing, remote work, and media consumption increased. In this context, we examined the relationships among egoism, empathy, and consumer interest in social topics. These topics included employee treatment, social justice, and the environment. We highlighted aligning Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts with consumer values. Using a survey method and structural equation modeling, we found such efforts increased consumer buycott. In this research we addressed whether consumers were motivated by empathy or egoism to engage in buycotting during global crisis. Consumers reacted to a firm’s adherence to health and safety guidelines, respect for human rights, and engaged in environmental protection. This study contributes to the literature on CSR and prosocial behavior. It examined the relationships among key consumer characteristics and corporate behavior in times of crisis and expands the existing literature on psychological factors that play a role in buycotting. The findings are applicable to policy makers, academic literature, and practice as it offers practical recommendations on how companies might consider realignment of CSR activities during crisis. It also suggests directions for future research.
